The CONCACAF Gold Cup started yesterday. The US kicks off today.

Considering the significance of this tournament, I have a difficult time imagining that the US will come out flat. And that's the only way that they don't get a positive result from this one. These two teams tied in a friendly earlier this year, but this time around the US team has the Euros in the mix. Eddie Johnson has finally returned to the form that made him look like the striker that would elevate American soccer back in 2004 qualifying with 9 goals in 9 MLS games this year. Bob Bradley is now 4-0-1 since taking over and the team has increased its aggresiveness over the notoriously conservative Bruce Arena teams. US wins this one 3-0.



1* El Salvador +500

The entire T&T first squad is currently hashing out a pay dispute with their federation which means that their top 18 players are out of this tournament. El Salvador aren't world beaters, but they can hold their own against the second best of T&T and may even pull out a win. El Salvador 2-1.

Same as the US. With a Confederations Cup bid on the line, this tournament is too important this time around for the 2 big dogs in CONCACAF to fall in their first games.

Honduras is the better team here, but I'll take a bite at the draw as the 2 teams tied earlier this year in the UNCAF Nations Cup and Honduras does not have a stellar history in the Gold Cup. Also it looks like rain might be mucking things up in East Rutherford right now.

The US team didn't exactly blow the doors off on Thursday, but, like I said, this T&T team is a shell of the team that qualified for the World Cup last year and the US has yet to lose a round robin game in this tournament since hosting. The only thing that worries me is missed chances and a 0-0 draw, but I'll trust that the Yanks can put one in. US 2-0.

Thanks Chado. I went back and forth on this play, but I think the value in the early game is on the dog. Guatemala just hasn't shown the ability to score goals. I just hope El Salvador kept themselves grounded after the upset win on Thursday.

Costa Rica is a mess right now. Everyone underestimated Guadeloupe coming into this tournament because they're not a FIFA-recognized team, but they have some nice players from the French leagues and are essentially a B team for France. Guadeloupe 1-0.

Canada is the better team by far and they know they can secure a spot in the quarterfinals with a win here. Haiti can't afford to play for the draw and must win to advance regardless of the result of the first game so they will not sit back and bunker. Canada 2-0
