Taking time off from gamgling from time to time is definitley needed. The swings can really take a toll on you.

I've been gambling since I was 11 years old...I'm gonna be 39 in July...it all started on a cruise my family went on in 1979...my dad has always been a big gambler and I would follow him to the ships casino for some slot machine action and then into the backrooms of places in Barbados ...he used to take me to Freehold Raceway to play the trotters and he also played alot of lottery games (pick 3,pick 4, scratch offs) He was a regular in Atlantic City and all these things contributed to my addictive personality I believe....my father worked hard his whole life and he played hard too...to a young man this all looked very exciting (caesars would fly him to vegas or the bahamas and put him up for the week...these free trips ended up costing him tens of thousands of dollars and his marriage of 27 years) anyway I ended up following that kind of lifestyle because it all was very exciting...I played poker 3-4 times a week ,spent 2-3 nights a week at monmouth park simulcasting, started betting with a bookie at about 20 years old and ended up in the GA program in 1990 when I lost my girlfriend and hit the bottom. I spent 50 weeks in that program and thought I was cured...I was gonna be smarter this time around and not let things get out of control...that lasted a month and I was back to my old degenerate self...Its a rollercoaster lifestyle that I'm trying to keep my son away from...he's 12 years old and I try and hide it as best I can...I always thought it was about the money but over the years realized that its all about the action...the time in between when you place the bet and the start of the game is where I get the biggest "high".... once the game starts it is almost deflating..you lose alot of that adrenaline and start thinking about the next bet to get that feeling back........anyhow I thought I'd give you guys a little glimpse into my past (as if anyone really cares) my point is that GA does work (atleast it did for me for those 50 weeks) and those were some of the best weeks of my life (you really do miss out on simple pleasures when you're gambling 7 days a week) Good luck to Chado and anyone else who is trying to better themselves by seeking out help for their addictions

Thats it! Thanx for sharing NJ - I wanted to read this over twice on how easy it all seems until the bottom drops out. You are doing the best with your son- it appears- one day somebody may tell him Dad is a gambler- if he sees you were strong enuff to overcome it- he will have his Dads strength as well. God Bless and Thanx!!!!

I may live in Vegas, but probably will not be betting unless CB, Wayne, or Dave T pops up out of nowhere and post a GOY, and even then I will not "hit it hard." Let me clarify, in my business, I will be too busy to stop stop over the summer and place bets. In the Fall, I plan on hitting this the same way I do business, it is the only way to come out ahead. Im a business man. My action is in the bottom line, not the hype.

Spearit, if you like to write , you think you are going to stop cold turkey? I dont. Same with gambling. You are going to need to find something to replace that feeling your "ills" gave you.

Perhaps I fail to see your point. Again, if it does not take away from other priorites or negatively impacts your life, why is it harmful?I always hear something in regards to the effect of the game is truly only with yourself.

No- I won't stop cold turkey. I slide through my emotions on whether I write or gamble or sit on the internet . As for my ills and a replacement- its a good thing to be reminded and I appreciate that offering!
And yes- if it does not take away from other priorities or negatively effect your life then - absolutely no problem.
Best of Luck in all that you do!

I know I do have a problem with Gambling too. I had to take a 3 month break at the start of College basketball. I wouldnt even get on the computer whan I came home cause it would make me want to come to sites like this and Offshores. And I would want to bet just to bet. But with that break it helped a lot to reduce the pain and sufering when I lose. And I have felt so much better because that break. And now I dont bet as much or as often.
