    Six-Pack for Tuesday

-- Matt Cain had a no-hitter thru six innings in San Diego last night, then lost the game, 1-0.

-- It was first time Padres won a game with two hits since July 19, 1975.

-- Jason Schmidt hurt his hamstring Monday, bad news for the Dodgers.

-- Daniel Cabrera's line for Orioles Monday:
7.1 IP, 7H, no walks, five strikeouts, 122 pitches. Excellent.

-- Real life imitates fiction this week, as Indian-Angel series moves to Milwaukee, to escape snowy Cleveland. Most of the scenes in Major League were filmed at County Stadium in Milwaukee.

-- Mike Hampton makes $14.5M a year, but is now out for a second consecutive year (bad arm); his career may be over.

Tuesday's list of 13: Nobody asked me, but.........

      13) Here in America's second-favorite city, the first nine days in January had an average temperature that was, on average, 6.1 degrees warmer than the first nine days in April. Not good

      12) How is it that a guy can hit a double off the wall, the ball could bounce in on the throw to infield, but they give ball to the pitcher and play goes on, but if pitcher bounces a pitch to home plate, the ball immediately comes out of play?

      11) Through Sunday's games, Cincinnati hitters had seen the most pitches per at bat (4.23), followed by Pirates (4.07) and the Rangers (4.05).

      10) On other side of coin, Bronx batters have seen the fewest (3.24) pitches per at bat, followed by Florida (3.48) and the Dodgers (3.61).

      9) Why does Grady Little always seem to have Rudy Seanez in his bullpen? Seems that when Little was managing in the Midwest League in late 80's, Seanez threw a no-hitter against his team.

      8) In his 20-year professional career, Seanez has been traded five times, released four times, put on DL 11 times, filed for free agency another 11 times. He has played everywhere from Lake Elsinore to Albuquerque. He should write a book.

      7) It is April 10, and the PGA Tour already has 19 guys who have won $1M+ this year. #125 on the money list is a certain Michael Putnam, with $167,510. #126 is JP Hayes ($161,301).

      6) NBA's Heads Up Poker Showdown is a great idea; it is like the NCAA tournament, 64-person tournament, set up in four "regions" with players playing heads up to advance to next round. Heads up poker is lot of fun to watch.

      5) In last five seasons, A's have won more games than Seattle every year, despite a payroll averaging $31M a year less than M's, but that streak is in jeopardy this year. The A's look old.

      4) Dave Duncan has done it again with Braden Looper, who has allowed just three runs in 13 innings in his first couple of major league starts. Duncan is best pitching coach in majors.

      3) Bronson Arroyo led NL last year, throwing 110.06 pitches per start. Livan Hernandez (138) threw most pitches in single game last season.

      2) John Pelphrey moves from South Alabama to Arkansas, so Razorbacks will adopt Florida-style of play; Mark Turgeon is rumored to be going to Texas A&M, so he's going to be rich and A&M should keep winning.

      1) What would happen if no coach could be fired before his contract was up? Would this be so bad? By same token, no coach could leave his school with time left on his contract, unless he was leaving the coaching profession. Wouldn't this be lot better for the sport and the kids playing?

                  Tuesday, April 10

                  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Boston Celtics at Atlanta Hawks (7 PM ET)
Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce has missed five straight games with a sore left elbow and is expected to miss at least one more, according to the team's official web site. The Celtics are 3-26 this season without Pierce in the lineup. EDGE: HAWKS
Al Jefferson, Boston's second-leading scorer at 15.8 points per game, joined Pierce on the sidelines in a 105-98 loss at Indiana on Saturday night. Jefferson has missed three straight games and is not expected to make the trip to Atlanta. EDGE: HAWKS
Atlanta will be without Josh Smith (16.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game), who will serve the first game of a two-game suspension for screaming at head coach Mike Woodson during Sunday's loss to Philadelphia. The Hawks blew a 17-point lead in that game. EDGE: CELTICS
The Hawks have allowed 100 points or more in a season-worst eight straight games, giving up 103.8 points per contest in that span. EDGE: OVER
The OVER is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings in Atlanta.

Indiana Pacers at Philadelphia 76ers (7 PM ET)
Philadelphia has alternated wins and losses over the last seven contests, keeping its slim playoff hopes alive with six games remaining. The Sixers rallied to beat Atlanta 109-104 in overtime on Sunday. EDGE: PACERS
Sixers star Andre Iguodala is averaging 20.6 points and 8 assists in his last seven games, topping the 20-point mark in each of his last two games against the Pacers. EDGE: SIXERS
The Pacers are 6-1-1 ATS in the last eight meetings in Philadelphia.
The Pacers are 39-13-3 ATS in their last 55 games playing on two days rest.

Miami Heat at Charlotte Bobcats (7 PM ET)
Heat guard Dwyane Wade returned to the lineup on Sunday but displayed rust, going 3-for-9 from the field and 6-of-12 at the foul line for 12 points as Miami lost 111-103 in overtime at home to Charlotte. There's a good chance he bounces back, as he scored 62 points and dished off 24 assists in the previous two meetings this season. SLIGHT EDGE: HEAT
It's uncertain if forward James Posey will travel with the team Tuesday after being arrested for drunken driving on Sunday night. The Heat have won 12 of 18 since Posey joined the starting lineup last month. EDGE: BOBCATS
The OVER is 4-1 in the last five meetings.

New Jersey Nets at Washington Wizards (7 PM ET)

The Nets have won four straight over the Wizards and are within two games of sixth-place Washington with six games to go. EDGE: NETS
The Wizards are currently on a four-game skid but haven't dropped five in a row since April 7-14, 2006. SLIGHT EDGE: WIZARDS
The Nets are 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 road games.
The Wizards are 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 home games.

                    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Seattle Mariners at Boston Red Sox (2:05 PM ET)
The Red Sox will be playing their home opener at Fenway Park after going 3-3 on the road to start the season. Boston is 13-4 against the Mariners at Fenway since 2002. BIG EDGE: RED SOX
The Mariners have not played in nearly a week due to poor weather in Cleveland that postponed the entire series. They lost 9-0 to Oakland last Wednesday and will give the ball to Jeff Weaver, who will attempt to make his debut with the team for the fourth consecutive time. Weaver is 3-4 with a 6.07 ERA in 13 lifetime appearances vs. Boston. EDGE: RED SOX
Boston has won its last two home openers but has dropped five straight to the Mariners, although all five were played in Seattle. SLIGHT EDGE: RED SOX
The OVER is 8-1 in Seattle's last 9 games following a loss.
The OVER is 7-1 in Seattle's last 8 as an underdog.

Houston Astros at Chicago Cubs (2:20 PM ET)
Chicago starter Jason Marquis is just 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA in four starts at Wrigley Field. The one win came last season during a miserable second half for the former Cardinal, who went 3-10 with a 6.72 ERA in 15 outings after the All-Star break. EDGE: ASTROS
Houston has had a winning record on its first road trip of the year in three of the last four seasons. SLIGHT EDGE: ASTROS
The Astros are 0-4 in their last four games following a win.
The UNDER is 6-1-1 in the last eight meetings.

St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates (7:05 PM ET)
St. Louis starter Randy Keisler is 4-4 with a 6.82 ERA in 51 games - 17 starts - over five major league seasons. EDGE: PIRATES
Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols went 2-for-3 with two runs Monday and is batting .371 with 32 home runs against the Pirates in his career. EDGE: CARDINALS
Monday's gametime temperature was 37 degrees, four degrees colder than it was for the last Steelers home game December 24th, so it wasn't a surprise the Pirates collected only three hits and were shut out for the first time this season. EDGE: UNDER
St. Louis has enjoyed uncanny success at PNC Park, going 35-15, the most wins by any visiting club in the stadium's six-year existance. BIG EDGE: CARDINALS
The Pirates are 4-1 in their last five games as a home favorite.
The OVER is 12-3-2 in umpire Hunter Wendelstedt's last 17 games behind home plate versus St. Louis

Los Angeles Angels at Cleveland Indians (7:05 PM ET)
This series was originally scheduled for Jacobs Field, but after 10 inches of snow led to the postponement of Cleveland's four-game weekend series with the Mariners, the Indians announced that it will be played at Miller Park in Milwaukee. SLIGHT EDGE: ANGELS
Cleveland hasn't played an official game since last Thursday, when the team closed a three-game series against the White Sox at Chicago with a 4-3 loss. EDGE: ANGELS
Los Angeles starter Ervin Santana is 0-2 with a 14.54 ERA in two starts against the Indians, lasting a combined 4 1/3 innings against them. BIG EDGE: INDIANS
The Angels are 28-7 in their last 35 after allowing two runs or less in their previous game.
The OVER is 7-1-1 in the last nine meetings.

New York Yankees at Minnesota Twins (8:10 PM ET)
With Monday's 8-2 victory, the Yankees are now 35-20 at the Metrodome since the start of the 1995 season. EDGE: YANKEES
New York starter Andy Pettitte should neutralize the power of Minnesota MVP first baseman Justin Morneau, as he's allowed the fewest home runs per nine innings among all left-handed pitches since 1995. EDGE: YANKEES
The Twins went 54-27 at the Metrodome last season, which was the best home record in baseball. BIG EDGE: TWINS
The Twins are 11-2 in their last 13 games versus a left-handed starter.
The UNDER is 7-0-1 in Bonser's last eight home starts.

San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres (10:05 PM ET)
San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds hasn't homered in nine at-bats against San Diego starter Clay Hensley. SLIGHT EDGE: PADRES
The Giants are tied for fifth in the National League with four stolen bases. San Francisco didn't swipe four bags last season until their seventh game. SLIGHT EDGE: GIANTS
Giants starter Matt Morris owns a 7-3 lifetime mark and 2.97 ERA in 18 outings against the Padres in his career. EDGE: GIANTS
Heading into Monday night, the Padres pitchers rank second in the National League with a 2.50 ERA and are limiting opponents to a .205 average. EDGE: PADRES & UNDER
The Giants are 7-0 in Morris' last seven starts as a road underdog of +110 to +150
The UNDER is 12-1 in Hensley's last 13 starts versus the National League West.

Colorado Rockies at Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM ET)
Colorado was 2-8 at Dodger Stadium last year and has a 19-45 mark there since 2000. BIG EDGE: DODGERS
Rockies starter Rodrigo Lopez has won at least 14 games in three of the last five seasons, including 15 wins in both 2002 and 2005. EDGE: ROCKIES
Los Angeles starter Brett Tomko owns the lowest ERA at Dodger Stadium among active pitchers with a minimum of 100 innings pitched at Chavez Ravine. EDGE: DODGERS & UNDER
The home team is 11-1 in umpire Dale Scott's last 12 games behind home plate versus Colorado.
The OVER is 6-1 in Tomko's last seven starts overall.

                        Colorado at LA Dodgers
The Rockies picked up a solid win over Jason Schmidt and the Dodgers yesterday thanks again to solid pitching which has seen the Colorado starters post a 3-0 record and 2.64 ERA through the first seven games. One of those wins was earned by today's starter, Rodrigo Lopez, who was impressive in his Colorado debut as he gave up only one earned run in seven innings against Arizona last Wednesday. Lopez will face Brett Tomko, who will be making his first start after a mediocre (6-6, 5.12) 2006 campaign. The Rockies look like a good underdog pick (+135) in this one according to Dunkel, which has Colorado favored straight up by 1 1/2 runs. Dunkel Pick: Colorado (+135). Here are all of today's games.
