I know some people have been asking but if anyone wanted to know. How to create your own -1 RunLine in MLB…I played it in the NYY opening game and made a nice piece of change.
It's an alternative way of not laying -1.5 runlines on high moneyline favorites, if they only win by 1.
Easiest way to do this is with an example – last August there was a game where the Braves were -170 on the ML and +140 on the -1½ RL.
To make a -1 RL bet, just make 2 bets so that you break even if the Braves win by exactly 1 run.
In this case, let’s bet $170 (substitute here for whatever the line is for the game you want to bet) to win $100 on the Braves ML –
then we want to make a bet so that we win $170 if the Braves win by 2 or more runs –
The amount to bet here can be calculated by 1.40 (sub. whatever line is for game you want to bet) x $amt to bet = $170 or $amt to bet=$170/1.4=$121.
So now we have 2 bets:
$170 to win $100 on the ML and $121 to win $170 on the -1½ run line
3 things can happen:
Braves win by 2 or more runs – we win $270
Braves lose, we lose $291
Braves win by exactly 1 run, we break even
So in effect we are laying $291 to win $270 for effective odds of -108 on the -1 run line
If you didn’t want to risk $291, just divide all amounts to get the amounts to bet, e. g., if you wanted to risk $100 divide every amount by 2.91
