UNLV vs. Oregon
This may not be the Runnin' Rebels of Jerry Tarkanian's day, but Lon Kruger has quietly put together a solid team that beat BYU to win the Mountain West tournament and then upset Georgia Tech and Wisconsin to advance to the Sweet 16. Relative unknowns like Wendell White and Wink Adams have been major contributors while the floor leader is Kruger's kid, Kevin. While the Rebels are coming on lately, Oregon is resurfacing as a team to beat. The Ducks won their first 13 games of the season and were one of the last undefeated teams in the nation. A mid-season slide took Oregon out of the picture, but Ernie Kent's team has rebounded by winning the Pac-10 title and beating Winthrop and Miami of Ohio to get here. Those two wins do not compare in rating strength with what UNLV has accomplished, however, as the Rebels have shown they are quite comfortable in the underdog role. That looks to be the case again tonight, making UNLV a good underdog pick (+3) according to Dunkel, which has the Runnin' Rebs favored straight up by 2 1/2. Dunkel Pick: UNLV (+3).
