Red Sox are now going back to familiar pattern we have seen so many times in the past(B Nut-you may be right);weak ineffective relief pitching, lack of clutch hitting and blowing leads.
Perhaps I am making more out of it than I should because of recent plunge team has taken, but as a diehard Sox fan since 1952,I think nothing has changed:
Sox pick up some purported good pitching and everyone gets excited including me(Kim, Sauerbeck, Williamson and Suppan).
From what I can see Sauerbeck, Williamson and Suppan are has beens and rejects and it is obvious why teams are letting them go;Suppan in American League is the same lousy pitcher he was before departing Boston. Williamson and Sauerbeck have shown nothing and Kim still is a frail and very mediocre pitcher whose motion fools no one and who still can't pitch against Yankees any more than he could when he pitched for Arizona.
Two blown leads against your chief competitor says it all;if they lose today, they will be in REAL trouble.
This is like a long running Broadway play which has gone on for 85 years;actors and actresses change(in this case the players) but script remains the same.
I personally think and have always felt that Theo blew it this year by concentrating too much on hitting and not enough on pitching, a failed concept in Boston since 1918;I think someone older who had been following the team for a longer period of time might have put team together with a little different perspective.
Unless things change in a hurry,I am afraid that the only flag waving in the rafters at Fenway will be one which instead of letters spelling out the world 2003 World Series Champs will instead say simply "Wait til Next Year."
