  • Red Sox

Red Sox are now going back to familiar pattern we have seen so many times in the past(B Nut-you may be right);weak ineffective relief pitching, lack of clutch hitting and blowing leads.
Perhaps I am making more out of it than I should because of recent plunge team has taken, but as a diehard Sox fan since 1952,I think nothing has changed:
Sox pick up some purported good pitching and everyone gets excited including me(Kim, Sauerbeck, Williamson and Suppan).
From what I can see Sauerbeck, Williamson and Suppan are has beens and rejects and it is obvious why teams are letting them go;Suppan in American League is the same lousy pitcher he was before departing Boston. Williamson and Sauerbeck have shown nothing and Kim still is a frail and very mediocre pitcher whose motion fools no one and who still can't pitch against Yankees any more than he could when he pitched for Arizona.
Two blown leads against your chief competitor says it all;if they lose today, they will be in REAL trouble.
This is like a long running Broadway play which has gone on for 85 years;actors and actresses change(in this case the players) but script remains the same.
I personally think and have always felt that Theo blew it this year by concentrating too much on hitting and not enough on pitching, a failed concept in Boston since 1918;I think someone older who had been following the team for a longer period of time might have put team together with a little different perspective.
Unless things change in a hurry,I am afraid that the only flag waving in the rafters at Fenway will be one which instead of letters spelling out the world 2003 World Series Champs will instead say simply "Wait til Next Year."

Savage i know these 2 losses were tough to swallow, but there is still a lot of baseball to play and they are only 2 games back

tonight they need Pedro "Jesus" Martinez to win for them

they have to put a nice winning streak together.........like going 8-2 in their next 10

STILL A LOT OF BASEBALL TO PLAY

Nut-you are right but after following these guys for 50+ years, I see familiar patterns emerging.
Who knows-maybe they will win today and beat Seattle 3-4 or sweep them(yeah right).
By the way in another post(I don't know if you saw it) I asked you to update won lost records re: units won and lost betting on each team as well as current over/under records.
      Can you still do that/
      Thanks

          I feel for ya !

I eluded to this about 6 weeks ago [ mid-season report ] and you , me and Wayne cussed about it for a few paragraphs and thier feeble dracula attempts to placate the masses have failed [ once again ]

Bnuts right though , there is still time ?

Let us all join hands and pray

Red Sox should change nickname from Boston Red Sox to Boston Groundhogs in honor of the movie Groundhog Day, which typifies and exemplifies what happens in each and every Sox season(same plot-always falling short).
By the way I am off to take my 8 year old to Mystic Seaport to see some ships and the Aquarium;I think it is possible that if I look closely in one of the tanks I might see a small fish lying at the bottom hardly breathing which is "red" and a little sock next to it if you get ny drift.

Baseball Nut-check out my response at 10:27AM on 8/21.
This was in response to what you said after Sox had just swallowed two bitter defeats to Oakland.
I was hoping that they would defeat Oakland on last night and salvage one game, but I really am very much surprised that they have just won the first three games against Seattle with Pedro going tomorrow.
It just goes to show it is a long season, and unlike the NFL where a loss or two in a row can be devastating to a team's playoff chances, several losses are not the end of the world, as we just found out.
Someone once said that if you say a team stinks, that usually means that right around then is when team will turn around at least in short run(assuming the team isn't the Tigers of course).

                Savage - Redsox look good

well they are definetely playing some good baseball at the right time

a sweep would be very big for them this afternoon and i believe they are only 5 games back from the Yankees as well:D

Nut-I don't think they will catch Yanks but who cares, as long as they get in playoffs.

The ONLY way Boston catches N.Y. is if they sweep them this weekend and i don't see that happening. Wildcard and a round 2 matchup against the Spankees would be nice!

Wayne-Who would Sox play in the first round if season ended today?

Boston is 1/2 a game ahead of Oakland and they would play Seattle who is also 1/2 a game ahead of Oakland so the sox could play whoever wins that division if Boston is the wildcard winner.

Thats what I thought-do Yanks automatically play wildcard team if they win division BUT don't have the best record? Do they go by records or who wins division?;I always get confused.
Say for example Chicago wins division but has a worse record than Sox who are wildcard team;does that change who either Yanks or Seattle(if they win division) plays in first round depending on which team (Seattle or NY) has best record?
Totally confused? So am I (I am not even sure I even understand my own post. lol).
