Originally posted by wayne1218In the Lakers last 5 games in Detroit going back to their finals matchup, the Pistons are (5-0), winning by 9, 22, 13, 8 & 20. The Lakers never seem to show up in Detroit for whatever reason and the Pistons are playing very well right now.

Originally posted by wayne1218I've always wanted to ask frank his opinion of a trend vs a system. I've thought about it many times and "To Me" they are one in the same. If a system is (30-20) when something happens, isn't that also a "Trend" that happens more often than not? Those two terms have always confused me a little.
I prefer systems over trends. Teams change from year to year. The team's players change yearly. I'll look at team's trends for the current season and past season. Another reason I don't like team trends is 6-0 can become 7-4 in a hurry.
If I have a great system I don't care about the team trends. I've often found my systems do well when I have good trends against my play.
I also like system capping because it eliminates my emotional factor. In the past if a team lost I'd be pissed. I'd play against that team in the next game when it often is a good time to come right back. The opposite happened the other day. I rode with Boston on Tuesday then played against them last night. Years ago I probably would have played Boston again or passed.
I like trends, especially recent ones. I feel like it points to bad matchups and i think they are like habits, not easy to break. Yes, some say, trends are made to be broken BUT it is highly likely that if you stick to them, you will always stay in the game and keep your head above water.
The NBA has changed the past 2 or 3 seasons with more scoring. Some of my systems still do well. I've modified others and discarded some. I've also come up with some great new systems that have done phenomenal the past two season.
I often hear. "Trends are always BROKEN". I don' believe that. Some systems in the NFL will never be broken. The history of those are long and successful. Almost, every capper plays system. Some don't realize it. When he hear comments like "sandwich game between two home division games" that is system.

Pistons are 1-4 ATS this season at home after beating their oppenent in the previous matchup. 0-3 if the previous matchup was on the road.
Lakers have not done well on the road with 2 days rest. 0-2 this season. Since 2003, after a road game 1-9 ATS and 1-5 as a dog.
Pistons have performed poorly as a home favorite this season 7-14 ATS and 2-6 v. winning teams and 0-5 vs. rested winning teams.
I would consider a small play on Lakers.
that's some pretty impressive info.....

Thanks for the reply frank. I actually do understand the difference a little better now. Systems also seem to be a little more detailed. The one thing i like most about trends is something you mentioned with systems, my heart. As Kaz mentioned above, i too never used to look at trends or systems. I looked at spreads and picked teams i liked based on emotion and what i thought i had (knowledge). I didn't do well (to say the least) so i decided i either needed to do something differently or quit gambling. This way does 2 things. It takes my heart and emotion out of my picks and it gives me some sort of basis for my picks. I feel better about them going in and i feel i actually have reasons for playing them. Not all, but most.
Again,Thanks for the reply

I don't find it on the web. I have access to a programmable database.
