        Six-Pack for Weekend

Miami Dolphins interviewed thirteen guys before they hired Cam Cameron as their head coach.

Cameron was 18-37 as head coach at Indiana for five yrs where his QB was Antwaan Randle-El. Cameron also played basketball at Indiana.

George Seifert won a Super Bowl as a head coach, about 13 years after Cornell fired him as its football coach, so put in right position, people can get things done.

Funny thing though, Cameron gets head coaching job, at same time Marty Schottenheimer gets ripped for not using Tomlinson enough vs New England. Guess who was calling the plays? It was Cameron, not Marty.

Teams hire coaches from teams with offenses that score a lot of points, but those teams score because of their great players, not their coaches.

So unless LT defects to Miami, how is Cameron going to do any better in Miami than the last couple of coaches?

          Sunday's List of 13:

          Nobody asked me, but............

          13) The PA announcer at Washington State isn't just speech professor at the school, he's the mayor of Pullman.

          12) The last NHL goalie to play every minute of every game? Ed Johnston of the Bruins, in '63-'64.

          11) Shaquille O'Neal turned down Rick Barry's offer to help Shaq with his foul shots. If I was Pat Riley, I'd want to know why he would turn down help.

          10) San Francisco played OT again last night, this time losing to St Mary's; three of Dons' four WCC games went OT, and they won the fourth game by one point.

          9) Tennessee's premier guard Lofton was carried off court in first half vs South Carolina, with an apparent ankle injury.

          8) Richmond trailed 32-8 at half in Dayton, then scored 46 in second half. Princeton stuff isn't working for the Spiders.

          7) Moving up to bigger conferences isn't always a good thing LaSalle was a giant in the MAAC, but they've disappeared as a member of Atlantic 14. Same goes for Richmond, Delaware, Cincinnati and Troy State.

          6) The worst commercial on TV is the Volkswagen commercial with the German guy wearing the white suit. Horrible.

          5) Road team is 9-0 in Middle Tennessee's Sun Belt games.

          4) 71-year old Gary Player shot a 69 on the Senior Tour Friday

          3) Russ Grimm, Ron Rivera are having trouble getting head coaching jobs; they can take heart in knowing that Bengals' Marvin Lewis took while to land a head coaching job, too, and he is doing great job in Cincinnati.

          2) Iona's nightmare continued, as Gaels lost 81-80 at Niagara, after trailing by double digits. Gaels are now 0-18, after they made NCAAs last year, and led LSU at half in first round.

          1) Rising star in coaching? Reggie Theus at New Mexico St; he got his first signature win in Las Cruces Saturday, beating Nevada. Theus played for Tark, had terrific NBA career, was an assistant for Pitino, and he has movie star looks-- this guy is going to land job in major conference fairly soon.
