  • This is why some teams will never win in baseball

I just heard that there is a tentative deal for the Yankees to trade Randy Johnson back to Arizona for 3 or maybe 4 minor leaguers and the Yankees would pay about $1.5M to $2M of his $16M salary. I understand why the Yankees would do it but why Arizona? I hope its not to have the face of the franchise back because he is done. Give up minor leaguers and pay $14M, this is a dumb deal and this is why they will never win.

Who knows, maybe they make that money up at the gate with ticket sales and in the N.L. West, anything is possible!

I understand why AZ did this but they are paying a 43 y/o off a shitty year and back surgery $14+ million?

I am the first to kill Cashman but he deserves kudos for getting rid of Sheffield and Johnson, $30 million in contracts, and getting young arms while only paying less than $2 million of their contracts. Even if the guys they got do nothing, to get out from under those contracts, especially Johnson's is impressive. I thought they would have to pick up almost half of RJ deal...guess not....

That is what I mean. Sure if you want him trade the minor leaguers but pick up the salary? Who else really wanted him?

I think many people fail to understand these are the Yankees..........not the Kansas City Royals or even the Cleveland Indians.

The Yankees are made of money are not the type of franchise who needs to cut payroll....unless they have somebody in the wings who is better than Randy Johnson or Gary Sheffield then trading them was a mistake.

The Yankees are not a team who needs to develop talent so they can have them cheap for 3 or 4 years so they can be competitive while watching the budget...........the Yankees wait while others develop their talent then the Yankees swoop in and pay them.

This is MLB and this is how it works because the Yankees have enough television money to run 10 MLB teams......I think moving Sheffield and Johnson was not done because they are becoming economically savvy but it was done to better improve chemistry.......IMHO I think the Yankees are trying to get away from the star laden team and back to some of the basics of the late 90s teams that won with some star power and mostly grit.

Cashman IMO also is still plain stupid and cant touch the likes of a Dave Dombrowski or a John Scheurholtz from Atlanta or a Billy Beane....just my thoughts

                  PEACE

I agree. If I was the GM of AZ I'd offer the Yanks second string minor leaguers.

i actually think this deal works for both teams. i think RJ being out of NY spotlight and back in the NL will help him greatly. lets face it all the potent hitting clubs are in the AL. and nyy gets a bunch of young players. IMO its a good deal for both teams and a win win situation.

I also agree that RJ will be a draw and that will offset some of the money, but if the team doesn't win, they will not pack the stadium no matter who pitches
