I have long wondered why coaches do not employee this philosophy in desperate situations and it happened today...or am I out of my mind? I remember the Packers doing this in the SB against the Broncos.
Texas/Iowa...Iowa uses its last time out after a first down run with around 1:50 left in the game and it is 2nd and long, no timeouts, down 2. If you do the math- 25 seconds play clock, 3 plays left...they are going to get the ball back with less than 15 seonds left and have to go, most likely 80 yds in one play because they will not have time for a field goal...
Why not let Texas score? You get the ball back with 1:30 left and you have a better chance of scoring, recovering an onside kick and scoring again, then you do of scoring on 1 play from 80+ yards.
Am I crazy?
