Maybe. If you trade Manny you need to do it by replacing Manny's bat in the lineup. I realize that will be impossible to do and pitching wins Titles BUT ... You HAVE TO get some big OFFENSE in return. I know you understand because you follow the Sox and actually have attended games at Fenway. The downfall to Boston trading Manny is going to be beyond belief. Many, many things will be affected by that in a trickle down effect. Ortiz will probably get 25-30 HR's to go with 200+ walks. That in turn would mean about 60 HR's gone with Manny's departure. There is NO WAY Ortiz gets a pitch if a 20 HR hitter is hitting behind him.

The fans. I for one am 1000% behind Manny as a player and him staying here. I've talked to Sox fans that are sick of it and want him to go and alot more that want him to stay. People can talk about him hot dogging it or not running out balls or faking injuries all they want. I would defend him in every argument and have many times. Manny is Michael Jordan in this town. Go to a game in Boston or on the road when they play. Manny is the main attraction on the Sox and at Fenway watch the fans. Their eyes are on him constantly in the field and when he comes to bat. When it comes down to it, Red Sox nation would not be the same w/out him. We took a big hit to the Most popular man on the team last year when Damon left and this would not be good. People can argue all day long about Big Papi being the cult hero around here and i love him but Big Papi is simply not Big Papi without Manny behind him and we will see that.

It's a business Wayne. Every player in baseball is replaceable. If Manny walked for nothing, of course it would hurt the team, of course it would hurt David Otiz stats, but he wants to leave, he's turned in a cancer. Remember last year when he sat out all those games for some for injury and never came back even when he was healthy? He's gotta go, they have money, they'll be able to replace him, maybe not this year, but they'll figure it out. Just IMO.

Jesse, I remember it all and we could sit here for hours arguing it. Manny has wanted to leave for each of the last 5 years. In the end, what were his numbers each season?

My only other question is this. Who is Manny a cancer to?

Good point, he's probably not a cancer to the players, he's a major distraction though, and unhappy players are pain in the ass. My question to you is, why does he wanna leave? Why does he keep bringing up every year? I really don't know, is he upset with something. It's ridiculous. He's one of the best hitters in baseball, no doubt, but there comes a point where they need to move on IMO.

Wayne you are 100% correct on your assessment of Ramirez and his importance to the Red Sox. Is he a pain in the ass at times yes but he is also neralry irreplacable in that lineup. I love watching Manny hit. If he stays and Lugo is our 2nd hitter I like our lineup for next year. I am not crazy about Drew but if he is hitting 5th or 6th he will be an improvement over Nixon which I hate to say. The lineup will be formidable esepcially if Crisp and Varitek have years closer to two years ago than last

                      BW,

I'll start out by saying this. Should Manny have played in September if his knee wasn't "Really" hurt? No doubt. On the other hand i can tell you for a fact that nobody up here where they play cared come mid to late August. When the wheels fell off this team, people gave up on them in a heartbeat. They fell 10 games back in the blink of an eye and people not only stopped watching, they also couldn't get rid of tickets to future games fast enough. Yes, they were "Sold Out" for the season in April but not really in September.

The injuries that built up in a matter of a week were tremendous. It wasn't one or 2 players, more like 7-8 important stars. The team did not respond with the replacements and they packed it in quickly.

Boston kept a few guys out in September who could have played. Papelbon was another one. He openly said he could have pitched but why?

You can say it's a business and it is but i don't care if you make $5 an hour or 20 million, when things happen in your work enviroment to people you are close to and work with, it's going to affect some differently than others. Boston is infamous for treating players badly. Damon never should have left. Boston blew that one. They also let a guy who did the SAME things manny did go in Pedro and people here were LIVID about that too. Clemens and Fisk along with Vaughn? Just a few more from the past who were totally mistreated by the front office here. When you build that reputation and turn your back on pillars on the team (Damon), other's are not going to understand or respect that when they in turn after saying they are broke, go waste it on others.

Cancer? NO WAY! The fans don't want him gone and his teammates don't feel that way either. The only ones who view it that way are the Front office in Boston and baseball fans OUTSIDE of here. I have heard interview after interview of teammates who say Manny is the most dedicated one on the team. The 1st one here and the last to leave. He NEVER says a bad thing EVER to the Media and he is the quietest guy (said by many) in the Clubhouse. To a man they will tell you the same thing ... "Manny shows up, puts his time in before and after the game, and puts up .300/40/120 every year". Even the local media can't find bad things to say about him besides running out a ball because they will be the 1st to tell you he quietly does his own thing and bothers NOBODY. Dan Shaugnessy (<--- Spelling?) was on Jim Rome today and said that Manny is very quiet and doesn't have a mean bone in his body.

Seriously, where is the Cancer in any of that? It is perceived by everyone watching Sportscenter but the "Local" feel to me is the direct opposite.

                        Jesse,

Honest to god, people do not understand Manny outside of New England. He is NEVER in any trouble off the field and he has NEVER spouted off to a newspaper or T.V. reporter. It isn't him. He is a VERY private and quiet person. He lived in a Boston penthouse forever with his (HOT) wife and family. His biggest problem believe it or not is the attention. He is almost like Ricky Williams was and simply has anxiety with being interviewed, talked to or photographed for articles. People have tried to do stories on him and he just doesn't want the attention. It is weird but the guy couldn't be any further from being a cancer if he tried, in fact it's the direct opposite.

All you have to do is watch the Sox. Manny is the jokester and all the players just love the guy. I think the front office drums most of this up not to make them look bad. Have you EVER heard Manny say he is unhappy or wants a trade? I havn't

I really do wanna know why he wants to leave, does he feel like he's been mistreated, under paid, what is it? I use the term cancer in sports for any player that brings down the team. That's why I called him that. Is Randy Moss a cancer? I agree, part if it is just the media's perception, like when he sat out the games last year, but he is a distraction, and he's a bad fielder, which comes across as being disinterested on the field.

I think Bad Fielder is another misperception.

He looks bad fielding but i don't think he is a "Bad Fielder". I've watched him gun guys out at the plate and make some routine catches look harder than they are but he makes the catches and has been at the Top of the A.L. in outfield assists the last 2 years.
