    -- Cal Poly lost 76-69 to SE Louisiana Friday, beat Portland 56-53 yesterday, so they're looking for 2-1 weekend vs Oregon St club that was upset by SE Louisiana 65-63 yesterday, after they beat Portland easily Friday.
    -- Northridge hammered Portland State Friday, then lost 84-73 at Oregon yesterday. Lehigh is 0-2 here, losing 94-90 to Portland St after Ducks beat them 77-65 Friday.Disappointing loss Saturday for Lehigh, which expects to be pretty good team.
    --Oregon beat Lehigh 77-65 in first game, then Northridge 84-73 Saturday; they're pretty tough at home. Portland State had good win Saturday, 94-90 vs Lehigh, after losing to Northridge 90-65.

    -- Duke was 32-4 last year, has typically strong team, is opening vs Columbia team that has four starters back from 11-16 squad that lost to Army last year. Teams play again tomorrow, sothe Lions might have to pull starters early, since Monday is doable.
    -- Fresno State beat Winston-Salem (Earl Monroe's alma mater) 85-63 Friday, then beat South Alabama 73-63 yesterday-- so the Bulldogs off to good start. Cal-Irvine lost 67-63 to USA Friday, then beat Winston Salem 53-41 Saturday.
    -- Nicholls State is young team with four starters back from 10th place team in Southland; they're optimistic. Northern Iowa has a new coach; they lost two starters fromlast year's 23-win team. UNI has 65 wins the last three years.
    -- Pepperdine has new coach who is going to play wild, pressing fast-paced style, only his team really isn't suited for it just yet. Washington is more interior-based this year, with pair of quality big men, but Huskies have always liked to run under Romar.
    -- New Mexico has replaced four departed starters with talented transfers, including one from Kansas. Lobos redid their arena and expectations are high. Sacramento State has three starters back from 15-15 team- they have pretty good guards.
    -- Michigan State trudged past Brown 45-34 in their opener, then played better in next game, whacking Youngstown 86-61. Citadel has new coach;they have four starters back from 10-21 team and won their opener vs a cupcake, 79-58 Friday.
    -- Murray State lost to Seattle Pacific yesterday, after falling just short in wild game vs San Diego State (87-83) Friday.St Mary's lost toAztecs by point Saturday, after winning 71-60 on Friday.

      The Mavs finally picked up their first victory in five tries by winning at Phoenix (119-112) on Thursday. But surprisingly a win over the struggling Suns may be easier than beating Portland right now. The Blazers kept their perfect record (3-0) at the Rose Garden this season with a one-point win over New Orleans (92-91) on Friday after overcoming a 27-point deficit. Nate McMillan has the Blazers playing with confidence right now, which could pose problems for Dallas tonight. Dunkel has the Mavs favored by only 2, which is under the Vegas line of 6.
