Im sorry but c'mon please think this out....

Honestly if they keep him I think they are better off.....he can play some OF, some 1B and some DH enough to get him 500AB's and he will put the numbers up

But please do not tell me signing him just to trade him is a shrewd move......if a team knows that is the case they wont get shit for him anyways

    PEACE
Im sure your tigers wouldnt take him right? After seeing the 1st 3 games of the World Series they sure as hell could use a few extra sticks because they "BIG BOYS" sure has fell a little silent lately

The Yankees can now prevent Sheffield from going to such rivals without getting anything in return.
I actually agree....The Yanks are far to successful of an organization to LOSE money. Even with BALLOONED salaries. A move like this tells me that there is something already in the works or they know who is interested in Sheff. The Yanks may not win it all as often as expected but they sure as shit don't lose money either.

....A point not on topic, With Girardi commiting to be a commentator next season leads me to believe he WILL be Torres's successor. Don't think that may not of been worked out already either.

Without knowing the final result, this looks like a no lose situation for the yankees.

            1) They keep him and DH him and Giambi plays 1B
            2) They eat a piece of his salary and trade him to a team for prospects, and they get to choose the team, so it is not the Red Sox or others
            3) They trade him and others in a package for a more established costly player , once again to a team they get to choose.

Really, he would have gotten close to $13M from some team in the open market. At least now the Yankees get to choose that team, or can get 500AB from him and he is not a bad offensive player

The fly in the ointment was his reaction to it though and what "trouble" he will cause

I don't understand how anyone can call this a 'brilliant' move until it plays itself out. If they keep him, he will be miserable all year and be a malcontent in the locker room. He wants to play the outfield. He does not want to DH and he definately does not want to play 1B...read his quotes in the article! And there is no OF position for him. And you can do better than a $13 million insurance policy against soemoen maybe getting hurt.

Now, if you are a rival GM, and you know that the Yankees have a guy that they have to move...are you going to give them equal value for him? IMO, they will be lucky to get .70 cents on the dollar. They have to trade him now and no one ever gets equal value when everyone knows you have to get rid of someone.
