          Dunkel Index – MLB

          SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15

          NY Mets at St. Louis
The lack of quality starting pitching may be finally catching up to the Mets. After Tom Glavine's stellar performance in Game One, New York has suffered through subpar efforts from John Maine and Steve Trachsel resulting in a 2-1 series deficit. Now Willie Randolph has to turn to Oliver Perez, whose 3-13 record and 6.55 ERA (0-7, 9.45 on the road) during the season can hardly inspire confidence. Add to that the fact that the Mets' bats went cold last night and the top-ranked team in the N.L. looks to be on the ropes. The one hope the Mets have is that St. Louis starter Anthony Reyes (5-8, 5.06) hardly looks to be a shutdown guy. New York should fight to keep it within the run line, but St. Louis should come out on top in the end according to Dunkel, which has the Cardinals favored straight up by 1. Dunkel Pick: New York (+1 1/2)

Game 965-966: NY Mets at St. Louis
Dunkel Ratings: NY Mets (Perez) 16.128; St. Louis (Reyes) 17.302
Dunkel Line: St. Louis by 1; 10 1/2
          Vegas Line: St. Louis by 1 1/2; 9 1/2
Dunkel Pick: NY Mets (+1 1/2); Over

            Dunkel Index – NHL

            SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15

            Dallas at Anaheim
Dallas is off to a 4-0 start -- second best in the franchise's history -- and has outscored its last three opponents 11-3, including last night's 4-1 win over Los Angeles. Brenden Morrow, who is off to a solid start with four goals and six points, had four goals and five assists last year against Anaheim as the Stars took five of the eight games. While Anaheim (3-0-1) was off to its best start in franchise history before a 5-4 shootout loss to the Islanders on Wednesday, the Stars look too good right now to pass up as a Vegas underdog according to Dunkel, which has Dallas favored straight up by 1/2 a goal. Dunkel Pick: Dallas (+1 1/2)

            Game 51-52: Dallas at Anaheim

              From dj:

Dallas is on a back to back and played well into 1:30 am last night and now they have to turn around and play ANA who let us down last time out on what should have been an easy win.

                  Nfl Injury Report

                  Titans’ White under the weather

LenDale White missed three straight days of practice with the flu.

Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher told reporters that there is a very slim chance that White will suit up against the Redskins.

"We`ll see how he is,`` Fisher told the Tennesseean. "He watched the walkthrough (Friday), but he`s still, to say the least, under the weather.``

Tennessee will also be without both their starting guards against the Redskins. Benji Olson and Zach Piller are out with ankle injuries.

The Titans are listed as 10 ½-point underdogs in Washington.

Westbrook’s absence a routine day off?

Suffering from inflammation in his right knee, Brian Westbrook sat out Friday’s practice. However, Eagles coach Andy Reid said that wasn’t the reason Westbrook missed the workout.

"We went on the turf and I just wanted to make sure we gave his knee an opportunity to make sure it didn`t swell up," Reid told Phillynews.com.

In preparation for New Orleans’ raucous crowd, Reid moved Philly’s practice indoors. Asked if the running back would have practiced outdoors, Reid said: "There was a chance, yeah." (Phillynews.com)

Westbrook is listed as questionable but will be a game time decision for Sunday`s game at the Superdome against the New Orleans Saints. The Eagles are listed as 3-point faves.

Lito Sheppard, the NFC defensive player of the week, also missed practice, but he apparently didn’t suffer an injury. The cornerback is suffering from flu-like symptoms and is listed as probable.

"It`s an illness. It wasn`t the ankle," Reid said.

                  Defending champs without key starters

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without some key pieces when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday as 6 ½-point favorites.

Deshea Townsend missed practice Friday. The cornerback is nursing a sore hamstring and will be a game time decision.

Pro Bowl linebacker Joey Porter (hamstring) and his backup James Harrison (ankle) are both listed as out for the game, as is offensive guard Kendall Simmons (foot).

"Joey is definitely out this week,” head coach Bill Cowher told NFL.com.

Fullback Dan Kreider (knee) and defensive end Brett Keisel (ribs) both practiced Friday and are expected to start. Townsend may see time as a backup if needed.

Lions hit hard on both sides of the ball

The Detroit Lions have a number of injuries this week.

On the offensive side of the ball, left guard Ross Verba and right tackle Rex Tucker were downgraded to doubtful after the two watched practice from the sidelines this week. Starting right guard Damien Woody is out with an ankle injury. Wide receiver Roy Williams had a full day of practice Friday and is listed as probable.

The Lions will also be without three starting defenders. Defensive tackle Shaun Cody, strong safety Kenoy Kennedy and linebacker Alex Lewis are all inactive for Sunday’s game against Buffalo.

Detroit is listed as a 1-point home underdog.

Falcons running back questionable versus G-Men

Jerious Norwood, suffering from a strained shoulder, is listed as questionable against the Giants Sunday, but is expected to be in the lineup. The rookie running back has 298 rushing yards this season.

Other Falcons expected to start after being listed as questionable are defensive end John Abraham (groin), right guard Kynan Forney (shoulder) and left tackle Wayne Gandy (shoulder). Linebacker Ed Hartwell (both knees) practiced fully this week but is expected to sit out another game.

Atlanta is listed as a 3-point fave against New York.

Coles good to go versus Dolphins

Laveranues Coles missed a portion of practice Friday with a knee injury, and is listed as questionable according to the NFL`s official injury report.

However, Coles is still expected to suit up for the Jets as they host Miami as 2-point faves.

I think picks are all supposed to go in "All Sports Discussion" or "Sports Services". I don't think it's any kind of big deal, though. Did someone say something?
