      Dunkel Index - Baseball

      Dunkel Index – MLB

      SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14

      NY Mets at St. Louis
"Say it ain't So" is the line that must be going through the Mets' clubhouse after So Taguchi took Billy Wagner deep in the ninth inning last night to even up the NLCS at one apiece. The Cards did what they needed to do, which was win with Chris Carpenter on the mound, although the 9-6 score reflects that Carpenter was hardly at his best. Today the series moves to Busch where the two starters (Steve Trachsel and Jeff Suppan) were hardly at their best in the NLDS as neither made it past the fifth inning. But Trachsel has brought out the best in his own offense with the Mets averaging 5.5 runs per start this year. Overall the Mets were 21-10 in his 31 starts, including 17-6 in his last 23. That support carried over into the NLDS, where the Mets overcame Trachsel's early struggles to beat the Dodgers on the road (9-5). Today looks like it could be a similar outcome, making the Mets a solid underdog play according to Dunkel, which has New York favored straight up by 1. Dunkel Pick: NY Mets (+1 1/2)

Game 961-962: NY Mets at St. Louis
Dunkel Ratings: NY Mets (Trachsel) 17.256; St. Louis 16.505
Dunkel Line: NY Mets by 1; 10
      Vegas Line: St. Louis by 1 1/2; 9 1/2
Dunkel Pick: NY Mets (+1 1/2); Over

      Game 963-964: Oakland at Detroit
Dunkel Ratings: Oakland (Haren) 16.372; Detroit (Bonderman) 18.524
      Dunkel Line: Detroit by 2; 7 1/2
      Vegas Line: Detroit by 1 1/2; 7 1/2
Dunkel Pick: Detroit (-1 1/2); Neutral

There's two Hardens???? I thought his name was Dan Haren. Where did the guy named Haren go? I haven't heard a thing about him being involved in any deals.

I wonder if those sites are posting Haren's stats under Harden's name. I hope so.

PROBABLY AN EASY MISTAKE. I EVEN SCREWED IT UP WHEN I TRIED TO TYPE OUT THE TWO PITCHERS. BOTH THE NAMES ARE AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN GET.

Detroit on verge of series sweep, as A's showing few signs of life. Bonderman is 4-0, 3.23 in his last five starts; he allowed three runs in seven IP vs Oakland in April 20 game that Tiger bullpen later won. Bonderman was originally drafted by A's. Haren was 1-1 vs Detroit this season, giving up seven runs in six IP on this field July 21, 17 days after he had allowed one run in seven IP at the Coliseum. A's are 3-5 in his last eight starts.

Trachsel is 1-3, 4.91 in his last six starts, totalling 25.2 IP; I don't think Mets' braintrust has lot of faith in him. Mets were 5-8 in his starts when they scored less than six runs- they scored 6+ in 19 of his 32 starts, tremendous run support. One of starts he didn't get lot of support was 1-0 loss at Busch June 4; he beat St Louis 10-8 August 23, giving up six runs in five IP. Suppan lost 8-3 to the Mets May 16, allowing four runs in 6.2 IP. He is 0-1, 6.14 in his last three starts; Cardinals won five of his last six at home.
