    Let's

look at all of this "somewhat" logically.....maybe....

I am a HUGE FAN OF THE TWINS and have always disdained the Yankees for what they stand for..........money buying pennants but also have the great players because of it!

This is probably the type of thing why most Americans always cheer for the "Have no fearrrrrrrrr.........UNDERDOG is here" type of teams like Detroit and Minn (unless you are from NY when they have to play in Minnesota !!

    NOW LOGICALLY.......

CONGRATS TO THE YANKEES......I HATE THEM........BUT CONGRATS.........THAT IS YET ANOTHER ASOUNDING RECORD THIS YEAR APPROACHING 100 WINS.........

BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT..........THEY HAVE to keep playing right now because BOTH DETROIT AND MINNESOTA ARE BREATHING DOWN THIER OVERPAID NECKS FOR THE BEST RECORD IN THE A.L. AND GET HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE. They would have sludged out a couple weeks ago and rested players if not for the AL CENTRAL TEAMS.

OK........NOW CONGRATS TO DETROIT..........THEY HAD AN OBSCENELY SUCCESSFUL 1ST HALF of the season and then started stumbling and choking down stretch feeling the playoff pressure............BUTTTTTTTTTTTT..........THEY ARE IN!! NO MATTER WHAT! WHERE IS THE BIG PROBLEM FOR THEM NOW??...oNLY WHERE do we want to play in the playoffs.......NICE problem to have!!!

TWINS HAD A GREAT CHANCE TONIGHT TO GRAB THE SHARE OF FIRST AND HI HO SILVA ONCE AGAIN WASTED A GREAT OPPORTUNITY........HE IS THE BUMB HOLE QUIMM AND SHAWNEE SHECHICKEN SHITCLONE OF THE AMERICAN LEAGUE........AND UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE STUCK WITH HIM!

BUTTTT........CONGRATS TO ONE OF THE LOWEST FUNDED TEAMS CONTINUALLY PLAYING BASEBALL THE RIGHT WAY and getting their players from their own home grown farm systems and taking the big money markerts down! THEY ARE AN AWESOMELY MANAGED AND CONTROLLED FRANCHISE AND HAVE BEEN SINCE THIER INCEPTION IN 1961.

Now CONGRATS TO THE A'S........They fended off the Angels even without any pitching of any kind but only had to reallY DEAL with a damaged Angels team. Who cares how but THEY ARE IN!

FOR the National League..........welllllllllllllllllllll........... Congrats for trying to get home field in the All Star Game..........With just a handful of games to go there are only about the Cubs and maybe PIGGSBURG mathmatically eliminated after tonight.

MAY ALL YOUR FAVORITE TEAMS WIN AND BACK THEM PROUDLY!

BEST OF LUCK TO ALL! Goldv
I am NOT schizophrenic......and NEITHER am I! Just paranoid that fear may overcome my insanity!

MCP, they have been rolling since Aug. 1, its not from just tonight...and need we remind you that you were the one that started the thread that may come back to haunt you, calling the Tigers the team to beat back in July...right about the time they started this tailspin....

I'll be rootin' for ya if you play the Yanks, but I don't like the chances....

It doesn't always mean do-do when one team is peaking(Yanks) and others like Tigers are struggling.
I am sorry-as much as I would like to see Detroit defeat NY, I would be shocked it they do.;I think Yanks have learned through recent past seasons and will dispose of Detroit rather easily if they meet.

First, the Tigers have been playing better ball over the last week or so. 8-3 in their last 11.

Let's not forget going into the playoffs last season. Over the last few weeks of the season the White Sox almost blew a big division lead. Not many game them a chance in the playoffs because they were 'slumping'. We know the rest. They swept the Red Sox. Took the Angels in 5. Then swept the Astors in the WS.

I bet you didn't give the Red Sox a chance vs the Yanks down 0-3 in 2004.

The Yanks are good. I've seen the better team lose many times in the playoffs. Including the Yanks a few times the past 5 seasons.

I wasn't that surprised by the White Sox last year;the Red Sox were also playing VERY poorly going into that series, and if you go back to last year, you will see that folks like me and Wayne clearly stated they were in trouble.
I simply think Yanks are superior to Detroit(they ought to be with that payroll), have a ton of veterans and experience, are playing well and will win.
What more can I say except that I hope I am wrong.

You are right and it was very flukey especially how they won in game 4.
I think though in 2004 the talent level of the Red Sox and Yankees was much closer than that between Yanks as currently stand and Detroit especially when experience is thrown into the equation.

Since everyone is bringing up past seasons and what happened, what about 1976?
The Yankees were coming off a very good season winning 97 games after being so-so the year before.
What happened when they played the Big Red Machine in the WS-Answer 4-0 sweep for the Reds.
The next year of course, when Yanks had some experience under their belt, they went on in that year and some succeeding years to win the WS.
Somehow I put this Tigers team in the same category as that Yankee team and feel the Yankee offensive maching will be too much for them to overcome.

Becket pitched great at the stadium, shut the Yankees down...but one start by one guy does not mean everyone can do the same. Many have failed...and you seem to have forgotten how Kenny Rogers pitches in NY...how could you?

What do you think line will be if Yanks and Detroit meet and Yanks have home field advantage. I think it will be at least
-170 and maybe even higher-could be -200 or more.

I am awful at this but I think -170 is fair.
