Geez frank, i always buy up to 3 in cases like this. Big deal. Does it mean people are pussies for it or does it mean every person has their own strategy in gambling? They offer teasers too and it's not because it's impossible to win, in fact some games can't lose on any side or total in a teaser. Options are all there and it doesn't mean it's simply so they can make money even though they usually do. Pointspreads are offered too and people bet those.
To each their own i guess but i've never classified people who won't lay 1.5 run lines with home teams in bases pussies either. We all like to do our own thing and THAT'S why options are given. I say buy the hook. What's 20-30 bucks if it saves you a 100 and if you don't need it and the Jags win, you get it back anyway.
We might like a play like Jax to win but we shouldn't be stupid either. We all pay for home, auto & health "Insurance" in this country for a reason. You may never need it but it's nice to know it's there if you do!Last edited by wayne1218; 09-18-2006, 05:00 PM.

It really depends on your strategy but I do feel more comfortable buying the half point. I hate getting backdoored whether it is on a $100 bet or a $500 bet. However one thing I am sure about is that buying the half point doesn't make you a pussy.

I agree 10DimeBry...IF you played all of the 3, 4 and 7 games over time you are going to lose anyway from playing so many games...I was refering to IF you played a NFL spread with any of those #'s...because ALOT of NFL games fall on 3, 4 and 7...to each his own...good luck to ya
eddie...winning and grinning...

I play each game individualy........sometimes I do buy the hook, sometimes I don't........
I'm more prone to buy the hook in NFL, than I am in college, due to the fact, extra points are rarely missed, and these guys can kick field goalls from 55-60 yds out on any given game.......
Pros tend to stay in the parameters of 3-7-10-14 motre so than the NCAA does...........
It's each one prerogative..........this subject has been argued since I can remember.......It's up to the individual........I've seen cases where the buy got me a win, a push, it wouldn't have mattered win or loss..
I cannot tell a person to do it, or not do it.....I can't call him a pussie (Frank) for doing so, as much as I can't call him a "MACHO" loser if he loses by the hook.........
I can only say, theres time I do it, and I did it tonight..........kapt
Don't make me go Cajun on your Ass!

What happens if you buy the hook and lose by 1 point? Are you now going to buy an extra point?
This Pussy usually always buys the hook .... esp. NCAAF .
I hate losing by 1/2 .... fvck the juice just win more than you lose !
I'll take a Push over a Loss anytime....Last edited by Ldawg; 09-18-2006, 05:39 PM.

Exactly eddie. Of course if you bet and buy every +2.5 up or every -3.5 down you would not make out ... BUT Nobody has ever bet every one of them so those numbers are skewed. There may be a dozen +2.5 or -3.5 spreads on a saturday and you may not buy or bet any of them or 1, 2, or 3.
Yes, if you did it on every spread, it would cost you. A few times a weekend here and there ... WILL SAVE You!

yesterday, could have bought 1 pt to get push on Jet game, and sat 1/2 pt to get push on LSU, I used to buy em all the time, I'm thinking of going back to that way of thinking, a push is much better than a loss
whats -120 anyways, we pay that and more everyday in MLBLast edited by Blackbeard; 09-18-2006, 05:43 PM.

First off, many offshores have the game at +3 (-120) for the Jags. I wouldn't lay -140. Get another book.
The point on buying the 1/2 can be argued for ever. I usually do it. Last year, I saved SIX losses so it worked out for me.
That may have been aberrational.
20 percent of NFL games seem to end up on 3 so I do like to buy on or off it (depending on whether I have a dog or a favorite).

Originally posted by wayne1218Great point with LSU. I had them at +3.5 and could have bought up to +4 (-116). I thought a 17-13,14-10 type of game was very possible. I didn't do it for a minimal price and the fucken thing ends on 4. I won't let that happen again at a price so cheap!

Most other buys are a poor investment. Maybe, pussies is the wrong word. How about poor investment. Buying the hook plain and simple is a poor investment. I Don't care what stragegy a player uses. The only exception is using a offshore like Pinny. As an example one can often buy from +3.5 -104 to +4 -112.
Let's face it. Most buy the 1/2 point not because of strategy but from fear. Guys hate losing by the hook. As I stated earlier. What's the difference if you lose by a hook or by 10 points.
What's next. Lose a bet by 1 point. Will you buy 1 point?
