  • Do you buy the hook?

My book charges me -140 to move from +2.5 to +3 in tonight's game. Is it worth it to buy this?

moving onto 7 is much easier for me to do at only -120.

    when do you buy it?

    thanks for the feedback

At -140 it's probably a bad investment. At -130 buy the hook.

Get an offshore account. They charge -130

I rarely buy points. ever. i cannot stand laying extra juice. if i'm not confident in my play with the line i can get then i wont play the game @ all. I'll simply pass. IE like tonights game. IMO all you need is to pick the winner and you should cover tonights game. IMO spread wont matter. if you like jax take the +2.5 or ML for +$$$ like many already have. if your backing pitt -2.5 or -3. you dont have to buy back any pts. I for one have never understood why people like to buy points. IMO its just another way for the house to take your $$$. believe me if they werent winning by giving you the option you wouldnt be offered the option. JMO

Dimer, I agree with you. I rarely buy points.

Most bettors buy the points because they are pussies. If buying points favored the gambler sportbooks wouldn't offer it.

yep. the house never does the gambler a favor.

On occasion it might 'work'. That doesn't mean it's a good investment. At -120 one would have to hit almost 55% to break even.

couldnt disagree with you more eddie. there is 6games with lines for next sunday that have lines of 3 or 4 or 7. buying on all six with the juice would bury you over time

Ditto. I do the same because I hate being hooked! In fact just last night I took the under and bought the hook and made it +37.5 and won. Normally I dont buy the hooks on totals, only on the spreads.

Except for key number all 1/2 buys are a poor investment.

If you think you need to buy the hook, that means you think Pittsburgh's gonna win, so play them instead.

Once again. It might 'work' on occasion but overall it's a poor investment. Especially if you buy on all 1/2 points.
