Break a Leg?
Bobby Petrino must be wondering who wished his team good luck last week in their win against Kentucky this past weekend. The head coach of the Louisville Cardinals lost two players because of broken legs.
Everybody knows about the Cardinals star running back, Michael Bush, who is lost for the season with a broken leg. Receiving less attention is starting defensive tackle Adrian Grady. Grady broke his right fibula in Sunday’s contest and will not be able to play for 2-4 weeks.
Sophomore Earl Heyman should replace Grady. Heyman started at defensive end in last week’s game. Louisville is 40.5-point road favorites against Temple this weekend with the total for the game set at 58.
Bulldogs` have a little less bite
The Georgia Bulldogs’ special teams may be a little less special this weekend. Return man Mikey Henderson, who had two long punt returns last week, did not practice this week and will not suit up against the South Carolina Gamecocks this weekend.
Henderson pulled a hamstring during a 67-yard punt return for a touchdown against Western Kentucky this past weekend. Georgia is a 3-point road favorite against South Carolina with a total for the game at 39.
Quarterback question mark
The Boston College Eagles still are uncertain as to who will be their starting quarterback for their home showdown against the Clemson Tigers. Last week’s starter, Matt Ryan, threw for 321 yards but also suffered a sprained ankle in the contest. Ryan returned to practice on Wednesday, but back-up Chris Crane has taken all the snaps with the first unit offense this week in practice.
Eagles head coach Tom O’Brien has not named his starter even though Ryan has said he is good to go for the game. If Crane gets the nod as the starter bettors may want to be wary of the lack of experience. Crane threw four passes last year and completed three of them. The Eagles are 2 1/2-point home underdogs against the Tigers. The total for the game is set at 43.
Out of the pocket
Eddie Royal, starting receiver for the Virginia Tech Hokies, will not be able to play this weekend against the North Carolina Tar Heels.
The Hokies, looking for more depth at receiver because of the injury, may put third string quarterback Cory Holt in some multiple receiver packages. Virginia Tech is 12 1/2-point road favorites. The total for this game is set at 41 1/2.
Cougars` secondary licking wounds
Washington State will be missing a handful of players from their secondary in their game against Idaho. The Cougars will be without the services of their starting cornerback Don Turner and his backup Markus Dawes won’t be able to play either.
Two other backups in the secondary will not be available for action against Idaho. Washington State is a 17-point home favorite with a total for the game set at 53 1/2.
RB Blues for the Bulls
University of South Florida will dig deep into their running back depth chart to find a back for today’s game against Florida International. The Bulls lost tailback Moise Plancher for the season after he tore a ligament in his right knee.
Plancher became the starter after sophomore tailback Ricky Ponton was suspended indefinitely during fall camp. Bulls head coach Jim Leavitt said on Thursday that he doesn’t know yet who would start Saturday against the Golden Panthers.
South Florida is 19.5-point home favorites with a total for the game set at 42.
