            MLB Line Watch Mon. 9/4

San Francisco at Cincinnati – San Francisco +119

After a dismal West Coast road trip, in which the Reds went 2-8, you would think they would be happy to be home.

            Wrong.

It doesn`t matter where they are, bad play has followed the Reds since the beginning of June. Cincinnati is 32-45 since June 8 and dropped to 68-69 with last night’s loss to the Padres, the first time the Reds were below .500 since the opening day. They are now six games behind St. Louis and 2 ½ games out of the Wild Card spot.

"This is definitely a big blow to this team," pitcher Rheal Cormier told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "We could be a half game out, now we`re 2½ games out. It`s been a rough road trip. We`ve got to go home and hopefully take advantage of our park.”

Cincinnati has won 20 of its 41 home games during its three-month long slump and is 35-33 at Great American Ball Park this season, down 4.53 units at home.

Chicago at Boston - Boston +144

No one would confuse Trot Nixon and Jason Varitek for cast members of Grey’s Anatomy, but these guys are here to stop the bleeding.

The Boston Red Sox, losers of eight of their last 10, welcome back two of the team’s emotional leaders at a time when they are needed the most. Boston has had a dramatic string of injuries to David Ortiz (heart), Jon Lester (cancer) and Jonathan Papelbon (shoulder) and has spiraled in August going 10-23.

The Red Sox’ struggles have bumped them out of the race in the AL East and put them 6 ½ games behind the White Sox for the Wild Card.

Boston will also see left fielder Manny Ramirez return to the lineup after missing the last eight games due to a knee injury.

Baltimore at Los Angeles – Baltimore +168

What do Angels budding ace Jared Weaver and my Hyundai Sonata have in common?

They’re both running on an empty tank.

Los Angeles’ right-handed hurler was the first rookie to win his first nine starts since 1950 but since then has dropped his last two appearances, including a four-inning implosion in which he allowed five runs on five hits.

Los Angeles hasn’t been much help at the plate for Weaver either. The Angels have only scored eight runs in Weaver’s last three starts, despite being the American League’s best hitting team in August.
