    Toledo -4.5------------------------------Winner

Amazing 5 turnovers to none for Toledo- still had to scratch it out in overtime- go figure. As I said about Kansas kicking- this is what led to the end result. 7-6-1 Now with Fla and UAB pending.

Again watch out for Pervis Hardin today for Fla- a speedster that should blow past the corners and safety like Ike Hilliard used to do.

Leak and the seventh-ranked Gators (2-0) used their lopsided victory over Central Florida on Saturday to prepare for next week's key Southeastern Conference matchup at Tennessee. They operated the whole game using silent cadence - hoping to be more ready for the raucous crowd at Neyland Stadium - and played stretches with the no-huddle offense.
Coach Urban Meyer said his team hadn't progressed enough to work ahead last year, and it may have hurt the Gators in a humbling 31-3 loss at Alabama in early October.

"If we were more advanced last year, we would have prepared for the noise," Meyer said Sunday, a day after a 42-0 win over UCF. "At Alabama, that did hurt us a little bit. We had a turnover created when our left tackle didn't get off on the snap count."

Meyer responded during the offseason by traveling to NFL camps and taking notes on how teams handle hostile environments on a regular basis. The result was evident against the Golden Knights. Florida's tackles and guards held hands at the line of scrimmage and released them at the snap to signal the start of plays.

The Gators didn't do that last season and lost road games against Alabama, LSU and South Carolina.

Because Florida has just one returning starter on the offensive line, Meyer felt like he had no choice but to work on silent counts beginning in fall practice and work out any kinks at home against UCF.

"When you're dealing with young offensive linemen, that's critical that we got that working," Meyer said. "All practice starting last Monday, we didn't use a snap count. That's a pain in the rear end. That disrupts the flow of practice because now your quarterback's not barking out signals and you lose your rhythm a little bit.

"But I'm glad we had a whole week to work on that and (get) some game reps."

Meyer also invited former Notre Dame and South Carolina coach Lou Holtz to Gainesville, where Meyer and assistant coaches peppered Holtz about playing on the road.

"The best advice he gave me is the best teams he had were confident and tough," Meyer said. "We were not a confident and tough team a year ago. We were a team that when we got ahead of you, watch out. But when we were behind, we did not dig ourselves out of a hole very well.

"That's confidence and toughness. The challenge is simply with the 22 seniors. If you want to win this game, they have go to play their best football next week."

Steve Spurrier showed up for the Florida Gators ' opening game on Saturday night, but not as the opposing coach.

Since Spurrier's University of South Carolina team played on Thursday night, he was able to drop in on pregame ceremonies honoring the 1996 national championship team that he had coached before jumping to the NFL. Then he got an eyeful of a 2006 Florida squad that looked like it's going to be stretching opposing defenses all season.

It was scary enough that Chris Leak threw three touchdown passes, Dallas Baker caught nine Leak aerials for 123 yards and a touchdown and a supposedly suspect running game looked formidable in the seventh-ranked Gators' 34-7 victory over Southern Mississippi. Even scarier was the performance of true freshman Percy Harvin, who carried the ball six times for 58 yards, gained another 33 yards on pass receptions and flashed a number of highlight reel moves.

"You can see he's one of our most electric playmakers," Florida coach Urban Meyer said of the youngster from Tidewater, Va. "We're going to get the ball in his hands a lot."

Even freshman QB Tim Tebow got the ball in his hands, circling left end for a fourth-quarter touchdown that featured an emphatic stiff-arm of a USM defender.

The Golden Eagles did take an early lead on a pass from Jeremy Young to Damion Carter, but Leak responded with a 21-yard strike to Baker on the last play on the first quarter. A short second-period touchdown run by DeShawn Wynn and a 29-yard scoring collaboration between Leak and Jermalle Cornelius then send the Gators on their way.

Florida's defense stopped the visitors on eight of 13 third-down plays, intercepted Young twice and recovered a fumble.

"I was upset with the way we started out," admitted Meyer.

But he liked the ending. For Steve Spurrier, it was probably the other way around.

What spearit dosen't know is in reconition of all the help given to victims from Katrina who made it to the LSU campus, the Miami Hurricanes have gracefully offered to trade names with LSU, so we now have the Miami Tigers and the LSU Hurricanes. I hope the LSU Hurricanes lose today because I will miss seeing your posts here if they beat the Auburn Tigers.

Hmmm- I refrain from a 10* on the above. No 4 team teaser of favorites should get that. But have fun with it any way.

My early play has to be the

                              South Carolina/Fla Atl Over 41.

Do you realize if you hit the upper case for 41 - you get $!
Spurrier will bring his offense to bear this Saturday.
