Another guy who needs another cycle. Dude use to hit 40 homeruns a year, now at age 32, he hits 10.

Thi shas been rumored for a week...and I have thought about it since I heard it and I do not get it. I don't understand it at all. We need pitching, plus Green has one more year at close to 10 million.

My only hope is that this is like the supposed Linebrink trade and it never happens. Where did you hear about it as it is not on ESPN?

I read it too, on rotowire. It said Green agreed to waive his no trade clause so he could be traded to the Mets, but the Mets want the DBacks to pay half of his 9 million dollar salary for next year

                  Thankfully, he ain't a Met...yet.....

The New York Mets continued their pursuit of Arizona's Shawn Green, but Houston's bid for a waiver claim on Washington's Alfonso Soriano went by the boards on Monday in the latest round of waiver deadline dealings.
With only 10 days remaining for teams to add players and still have them eligible for postseason play, the contenders made a few notable moves in the last week, with Detroit acquiring infielder Neifi Perez, St. Louis signing free agent outfielder Preston Wilson, Philadelphia picking up left-hander Jamie Moyer, Boston getting infielder/outfielder Eric Hinske and the Mets adding right-hander Guillermo Mota.

The Mets continue to negotiate with the Diamondbacks regarding Green, but a deal wasn't imminent on Monday, and Green hadn't been asked to waive his no-trade clause.

"There's been nothing other than just the rumor mill," Green said prior to Monday's game against San Francisco. "There hasn't been official discussions. There's been nothing like that."

Arizona general manager Josh Byrnes has met with Green to keep him updated on the latest conversations while the team was in San Diego last weekend.

"He has just let me know that there's been some discussions," Green said. "I think that's very professional for him to do that. There have been discussions, but at least as of the last time I talked to him, he didn't know where things would end up -- just that there have been talks."

Green is making $8 million this season and is under contract for $9.5 million for 2007. The agreement includes a $10 million team option or a $2 million buyout for 2008.

The Nationals placed Soriano on waivers last week, which in itself is not unusual. Teams usually place all players with no-trade contracts on waivers at one point or another for a number of reasons, including testing a player's value.

In Soriano's situation, with National League teams picking first in reverse order of the standings, the Astros put in a claim and were in position to have the claim awarded had the Nationals not pulled Soriano back from waivers.

The two teams weren't even close on a deal, and the Nats were not about to let Soriano, who can be a free agent at season's end, leave without getting compensation. The two teams had until Monday morning to complete a deal, but the deadline passed without any movement from either team.

While Soriano appears to be staying put, other players might be changing addresses before Aug. 31.

The Astros designated catcher Eric Munson for assignment, and Cincinnati, which lost closer Eddie Guardado to the disabled list on Sunday, is seeking additional pitching.

On a positive note, they're treating Glavine with medication and he's only going to miss one start.

I'm not sure why he's pursuing Green. Just let Milledge play to give him experience before the post season starts. Offense is not the Mets' problem right now.

Agreed 100% and to take on the $10 million for next year...even if AZ pays half of it, it isn't worth it!

NEW YORK -- Outfielder Shawn Green reportedly was traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the New York Mets on Tuesday night, giving the NL East leaders one more big bat as they gear up for the postseason.

                              Green
Two team officials familiar with the trade confirmed the deal to The Associated Press, while a baseball source told MLB.com that Green had been dealt along with cash considerations to the Mets.

According to MLB.com, Green arrived at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Tuesday and was seen hugging teammate Craig Counsell and a Diamondbacks coach, signifying he was saying goodbye.

Green is batting .283 with 11 homers and 51 RBI this season.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
