That's (10-8) With him Tony and it was against tough competition so that wasn't exactly horrible. 7 OF 18 were against Oakland, 3 against Anaheim, 3 AT Seattle (Tough west coast trip) and one against a tough Texas lineup.

In turn, since the injury, we are (6-12). 12 of those 18 were against K.C., T.B., Baltimore & Cleveland.

unlike you wayne i do not need to be right and i am not trying to be RIGHT...i am simply stating different possibilties.....I am suggesting that it is not just him.....there are other dynamics happening.....and it is the "perfect storm".......

So we can not outhit any of those teams??? are you saying that??? All i am saying is that, yes we lost #33....lets pick it up in other areas (good teams do you know)....instead they do not......And by the way my arguments hold just a much water as yours.......it is not an all or nothing....it is a discussion....You like excuses....I do not......I look for solutions....You concentrate on problems.......

what is your solution to this mess for the rest of the season??? or since JV has been out....Just because a problem arises does not mean we can throw the season away...

Mine was that others have to hit more, hustle more, and contribute until he gets back...Where you were probably rooting for them to lose so you could be right....

I certainly expected the hitting to be better, the pitching also and the managing....But hey it is august.....the red sox time of unraveing for many many years.....Every time Johnson pitches and lester lately our bullpen gets disentegrated......


In a nutshell i see it this way....

If we were that reliant on a catchers calling of games (not even hitting)...what the fuck kind of team were we to begin with....I think that is waaaaay too risky of a way to bank your season....On a position that gets the most injuries.....

Guys, keep calling it a coincidence or an excuse. That's fine but i'm not calling it anything else but facts. Varitek is the key leader of this team and you can argue all you want that he isn't but they are .......

It's not about being right or wrong tony. I come with a good argument and unlike ANYONE else, have numbers to prove what they have done with or without him. I've been wrong many times and i have no problem admitting it when it happens!

I agree with that Wayne...but some catchers make it with their bats.....Piazza, Lopez, Nokes,...all of them were on winning teams

How about the fact that their pitching just isnt that good? Beckett hasn't adjusted to the AL, and still thinks he can keep firing 95 mph fastballs by the bottom of the order whenever he gets in trouble. Their bullpen stinks. I don't care who is catching......guys like Tavarez, Saenez, Delcarmen etc etc just arent very good. Timlin is old and wearing down after pitching a ton of innings the last few years, and they don't even have a lefty specialist. But thats okay, Wonderboy is forever excused from criticism because he grew up in Brookline.

i actually agree there were cracks in the foundation and were already happening and when varitek went down they became more apparent.....thats it......Players just do not stop being good or great pitchers because of a catcher.....I caught guys who made it to AAA and caught Rob Dibble in Legion all-stars and although you can guide them and coach them....they still have to execute.....

we always score runs in catch up mode.....varitek calls a pitch....he can not place it....the pithcer has to do that.......

there were problems before he left....now they are even more apparent......
