The NBA is close to the same although teams can keep players but bumping the salary up. Overall though they are pretty equal and it is virtually impossible to put a dream team on the court with the cap.

The NHL finally figured it out last year when they put in the Cap. Detroit had some great teams but they were HIGHLY PRICED. Sorta like the NHL's version of the Yanks with star power. They were brought down to everyone's level this year and a team NOBODY predicted to WIN did and they were from Raleigh, N.C. The NHL will give every team a chance to win now and in the future.

Wild Card or not, why do you think 1/4 - 1/2 of mlb stadiums are naked, empty, bare or hollow in July and August with more empty seats than fans??? You can name 10-15 MLB teams that simply have zero chance of winning a WS over the next 10 years. Obviously certain ones like Minny and Oakland have the right guys in place to make right decisions and feed the farm system but not all of them do.

You are right. People with a 30 million payroll can bitch about Boston's 110 million too. No doubt but the seperation is MUCH TIGHTER with them and the rest of the league compared to N.Y. A few teams are over 100 million and several teams are in the 75-100 million range. All competitive and comparable with Boston. The teams on the bottom will always be there and it won't matter what the other teams do. I would love a salary cap for ALL including Boston!

I know, i can't change it tony and i'm seriously not trying to make excuses. I've been saying this literally for years and not just for Boston's sake but for the LEAGUE AS A WHOLE.

It kind of got taken into this years standings by me but in general i meant it as a "Baseball" thing more than a Boston/NY thing.

    As pimp would say ...

After i posted this thread frank, i left for a few hours before this post. I love to talk and you know that. I also like to "Create Discussion" at times too and i love the fact that we all don't "Agree". If we did, where would all the debates in sports go.

I also like to "Rile" things up and have some fun at times getting people going too. Why do you think the 1st thing i posted all by itself when i came back today were the on the top??? Because i thought the thread was funny as shit. Sometimes i roll the ball just to see what others will say and you never let me down!

I don't care if you agree with my thoughts just as much as you don't care what i think of yours so don't go getting all "HUFFY" on me!

      NO HUFFYness permited. lol

I was stunned when a Sox fan committed blasphemy on another Sox fan. There's probably nothing worse than calling a Sox fan a Yankee fan in all of sports.

I agree 100% with post #29. NFL is by far the best American sport. Mostly due to revenue sharing and the salary cap. I've said for years baseball would benefit greatly with both.

        frank,

i am a die hard sox fan, but i must admit i tire of some of my friends and their hair trigger and knee jerk responses over every move or non-move that happens with the team....If it were up to one friend of mine we would have gotten rid of lowell before the season, gonzalez during the 1st month......now he wants to get rid of hanson, before it was delcarmen.....He approaches baseball with a football mentality.....The beauty of baseball is that a .300 hitter over the course of the year will probably be a .300 hitter, regardless of his slow start.......He also does not realize you can not just yank guys from games.....then they and others are always looking over their shoulders....It is a game of streaks and confidence ....sometimes you must just play yourself out of a funk.....

But to draw an analogy....Red Sox fans are like beaten dogs......When there is any type of movement, they assume it is for the worst and over-react........JMHO....

I do not believe in any of that shit...>Baseball is a game of patience....Let the players play i say......

Why the fuck does everything have to be overanalyzed anyways??? It never turns out the way we think it will.....Also how would we know if new stars are born unless they are thrown into the mix......Can anybody say Tom Brady????

I am putting a call out for Sox fans to NUT UP!!!

Wayne, the payroll excuse is overrated... Those players are not worth the amount they are getting payed... Hell, the yanks would probably pay 30 million a year to papi than 10 mill he gets now or whatever that # is.. I hate when everyone points the finger at payroll.. Its really a non issue. Matsui, Sheff, Cano,Pavano, to say that the redsox injuries are worse then that your in the wrong... Nothing has been more devastating to a team... Luckily we got Melky and my boy cairo has been doing great to fill in for cano..

1-2 on the road trip so far.
I will repeat what I said a few days ago: if they don't win at least 4 of the next 6 against KC and Baltimore, you can kiss the season goodby with the Tigers and Yankees next.
I may be a Red Sox diehard, but I am a realist also!

it is frustrating as hell.....But your last line is an oxymoron......Red Sox fans are not realists....We can not be.....we have been wounded too much and our judgement is clouded.....If we were realists we never would have come back against the yanks....It is still way too early to make statements so bold.....Baseball is funny...sometimes we lose to teams we shouldn't and sometimes we beat teams we shouldn't....Strange game...Chin Up Savage...even though after today it is hard to

It is a bold statement, but heaven forbid if they can't win the next two series and assuming that at least several of teams in contention play ok, it would not look too good with those 8 upcoming games with the Tigers and Yankees
That game today is just one which is almost a must with a 6-1lead against struggling Tampa.
Lets hope I am dead wrong in my assessment and more importantly that they for now take care of business against KC, who proved surprisingly tough in Boston, being on the losing end of (2) 1-0 games and losing the other game by one run also.
