I still say there is a reason why the NFL is so GREAT! It's the Salary cap and the fact remains that a team from G.B. Wisconsin has just as much spending power as a Team from NY, CAL, or anywhere else. Every team has a chance every year if they have good solid management.

The NBA is close to the same although teams can keep players but bumping the salary up. Overall though they are pretty equal and it is virtually impossible to put a dream team on the court with the cap.

The NHL finally figured it out last year when they put in the Cap. Detroit had some great teams but they were HIGHLY PRICED. Sorta like the NHL's version of the Yanks with star power. They were brought down to everyone's level this year and a team NOBODY predicted to WIN did and they were from Raleigh, N.C. The NHL will give every team a chance to win now and in the future.

Wild Card or not, why do you think 1/4 - 1/2 of mlb stadiums are naked, empty, bare or hollow in July and August with more empty seats than fans??? You can name 10-15 MLB teams that simply have zero chance of winning a WS over the next 10 years. Obviously certain ones like Minny and Oakland have the right guys in place to make right decisions and feed the farm system but not all of them do.

You are right. People with a 30 million payroll can bitch about Boston's 110 million too. No doubt but the seperation is MUCH TIGHTER with them and the rest of the league compared to N.Y. A few teams are over 100 million and several teams are in the 75-100 million range. All competitive and comparable with Boston. The teams on the bottom will always be there and it won't matter what the other teams do. I would love a salary cap for ALL including Boston!

I know, i can't change it tony and i'm seriously not trying to make excuses. I've been saying this literally for years and not just for Boston's sake but for the LEAGUE AS A WHOLE.

It kind of got taken into this years standings by me but in general i meant it as a "Baseball" thing more than a Boston/NY thing.

      As pimp would say ...

Is it possible? NO DOUBT. I said SMART MANAGEMENT wins. Let's not even talk about Isiah please! The Jets have an old RB and Hurt QB. That can EASILY change in the NFL.

that is why i like football too wayne....I gathered what you were saying and i understand it.....

I also heard something interesting today on the radio today that marlins will profit around $40 million dollars this year...From a team that has a miniscule payroll and no fan support i thought that was amazing and begs the question ....Do you try to run a profitable business and make money or do you spend big (a la huizenga) and win a world series and lose $30 million??? from an owners perspective that presents an interesting quandry......

That's also the beauty of the cap. Not only is there a maximum but there is a MINUMUM too to keep things close. Why would Fla. spend 20 million more and probably still go nowhere and still not get any more fan support when they can put it in their pockets?

This system allows shit like that to go on and always will until something is done about it.

You can't complain. The Braves have won the division, I think for 14 straight seasons.

you cant have a cap in baseball until they learn how to share the TV money.......until then its a farfetched dream

another enemy of the cap is the strongest union on earth, MLBPA who will never allow a cap....im shocked they got so many concessions from them last time

What a moronic and disrespectful statement? A Sox fan (TTT) is called a Yankee fan because he's not whining about the rules that are in place. Whining about it won't change the rules.

I'm not a Sox or a Yankee fan. As a Met fan I hate the Yanks more than any team. However, I dislike Sox fans more than any other fans. Their whining amazing me. Outside of 2004 they've lost for so long they are natural born losers. They are always expecting the worst. This thread is proof. There's 50+ games remaining a some fans are throwing in the towel on the season. They are one game behind the Yanks. Have some faith.

YES.....but teams still have to spend wisely (not necessarily the most) and compete and win......To me it is not the dollar amount, but the type of player.....
                    Tony, I agree 1000%

Teams can still win with limited payroll ie Tigers.

David, I agree with one small correctong. Pitching is a problem for all teams. Let's face it. Pitching in MLB sucks. There's a limited number of quality pitchers to staff 30 teams. Other sports have drained the talent pool. Growing up I remember most teams have 3 quality starters and all teams had an ace. It seems today, very few teams even have an ace.
