That's a very good point...and I think that Wayne was trying to say as well talking about Dallas in the 90's.

Maybe I'm missing the whole analysis of a single team in consecutive years...because the team of Dallas in the 90's and even San Fran in the 90's were never the same team. They kept adding key players.

To me...and Spark you are correct in your stats on those games....

For one year..the most dominant team ever was the 85 Bears.

    Fantastic poll...fantastic discussion.

You could put the 95 Niners, and the early 90 Cowboys...and they all had their respective weaknessess.....Tell me what the Bears weakness was? They dominated every faset of the game for 95% of their games.

I swear I'm not trying to be biased....lol

      ok,

I hate the 85 bears. Better yet i hate mike dickheadka. The guy had one of the best RBs ever in his back field and he let fat ass Fridge score a TD in a SB. Come on now. I wouldnt vote for 85 bears for that reason alone. Even bears fans know that was a total slap in the face.

I remember our Slogan in 1985 ... "Let's Berry the Bears" for coach Ray Berry. How did that work out?

If that is your sole reason for NOT voting them as the best team in history...then your vote shoudlnt' count.

Should Payton have gotten the ball. YES...WITHOUT A DOUBT

But the question isn't "Should Payton have scored a touchdown?"

Definetly the best DEFENSE in history...

speaking of good defense...this year's Bear team resembles the 85 defense...

my partner went to the game yesterday...they shut down Carolina's potent "O"...

...he said the only diff between this "D" and 85's ...85's woulda scored 2 TD's.

                      They sure do JW...

I think the 85 defense was a bit more cocky and entertaining. Bu this year they are just shutting down everything and finally not under the radar.

Here's a note on that "dominant" 14-0 Fish team. They only beat TWO teams with winning records all season and the best any of their opponents finished was 8-6. Not exactly murderers row...

maybe, but that 17-0 fish team probably played at least five teams with winning records...lol. undefeated is still undefeated, the hardest thing to do in sports.

I wasn't born when the 72 Dolphins played...but I did a lot of research and although it's not going to be 100% fool proof...I have made a very good case for the 85 Bears.

Telling me because the 72 Dolphins are the best team ever JUST because they won all their games doesn't tell the whole story.
                              I say the 72 Dolphins
I love stats but I think when comparing eras you should look at rankings. The game was totally different in 72.
Both teams 72 Dolphins and 85 Bears were ranked #1 in total D. BUT the Dolphins were ranked #1 on total O, Bears=6.

Is it possible that there was better parity in the NFL in 72?
