College Basketball Preview - Kentucky at Missouri
The Kentucky Wildcats will look to avoid a letdown, as they visit the Missouri Tigers on Tuesday night in a game that can be seen on ESPN. Kentucky has moved up to No. 4 in the country after beating Tennessee on Saturday and the Wildcats are now in position to get a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats will be road favorites in this contest on Tuesday against a Missouri team that is 12-12 on the season. Let’s look at Kentucky at Missouri and college basketball picks.
Kentucky Wildcats at Missouri Tigers
Date and Time: Tuesday, February 19, 2019, 9 p.m. ET
Location: Mizzou Arena, Columbia, MO
College Basketball Odds at BetDSI: Kentucky -11.5, O/U 135
Kentucky vs. Missouri TV Coverage: ESPN
Kentucky has been a very good road team this season, as they are 6-1 ATS, with three games going over and four going under. They are averaging 78.7 points per game and giving up 65.6 per contest. The question in this game is how much do oddsmakers overreact to Kentucky’s win over Tennessee? The Wildcats have been a very good road team, but they usually are laying small numbers.
Missouri had a good season a year ago under Cuonzo Martin as they won 20 games and tied for 4th in the SEC. That is not the case this year, as the Tigers are just 3-9 in the SEC. Missouri simply doesn’t score enough points, as they average just 68 per game. They are giving up 68.9 per contest. Missouri is 6-6-1 ATS at home, with six games going over, six going under the total, with one push.
Player to Watch
The Wildcats have a very good player inside in PJ Washington. He could very well get into the conversation for the SEC Player of the Year Award. He dominated No. 1 Tennessee on Saturday and he has scored 20 points or more in seven of the last eight games. He is averaging 14.8 points and 8 rebounds per game.
Matchup to Watch
If Missouri is to stay in this game they have to hit from three-point range. They are making 8.5 threes per game, so they have the ability to hit from long range. Mark Smith is hitting 47% of his three-point shots, so he is definitely a threat. Kentucky should be focused on making sure that Smith doesn’t beat them. Missouri also has Jordan Geista and Jeremiah Tilmon who can hit from deep, so the Wildcats will have to make sure they play good perimeter defense on Tuesday. Smith has had some injury issues this season and he played just three minutes in Saturday’s loss to Ole Miss. If Smith is not at full strength then Missouri is going to have a hard time staying in this game.
Key Stats
The home team is 6-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings in this series. The Wildcats are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Wildcats are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 vs. the SEC. The Wildcats are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a point spread cover. The Tigers are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 vs. the SEC. The Tigers are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
Looking at the total, the Under is 4-1 in the Wildcats last 5 overall. The Over is 5-2 in the Tigers last 7 overall.
Kentucky vs. Missouri Free Picks
The situation definitely favors Missouri, but the problem I have with backing the Tigers is that they are the inferior team. Kentucky is simply better all the way around than Missouri. The point spread is high, so I am a little leery in taking Kentucky, but that is still the way I would lean. The total is worth considering in this game, simply because Missouri is so poor on offense and because Kentucky may not be as focused as they normally are. I will play this game to go under the total at BetDSI.
Kentucky vs. Missouri ATS Pick: Under 135
Kentucky vs. Missouri Score Prediction: Kentucky 72, Missouri 60
