More college football trends with Week 9 upon us…….

— UCF covered four of last five games as a road favorite.

— Kansas State is 20-6 in its last 26 games as a road underdog.

— Virginia is 20-12 in its last 32 games as an underdog.

— Texas coach Herman covered his last eight games as an underdog.

— Maryland is 5-11 vs spread in its last sixteen games.

— East Carolina is 2-8-1 in its last 11 games as a road underdog.

Armadillo: Saturday's List of 13: Things I’m looking for this weekend

13) Drew Stanton-CJ Beathard is the QB match-up for Cardinals-49ers Sunday; I’m guessing 49ers will start Jimmy Garoppolo after their bye week.

Arizona is 3-4, with wins by 3-3-5 points; they lost two of their three true road games. Cardinals are 1-4 when they allow 28+ points, 2-0 when they allow less.

12) Oklahoma-Oklahoma State should be a fun game; Sooners are 12-2 in last 14 series games, 5-1 in last six visits to Stillwater, but Cowboys may have the better team this time around.

11) Way back in 1960, the Chiefs franchise started out as the Dallas Texans; now Tony Romo and the Chiefs make their return to Dallas, Romo in the CBS broadcast booth. Ezekiel Elliott is back in the lineup now; did they plan for him to play this week, or do they need to make last-minute changes?

10) Florida State is 2-5; they’re favored by only 4.5 points at home against Syracuse. Seminoles looked that they quit a little bit in Boston last week- they just need a win for their own mental health. Syracuse is 4-4 and fighting to get into a bowl.

9) Brock Osweiler starts at QB for the Broncos, who are on the road for the third week in a row. Denver drafted Paxton Lynch last year, but he just got healthy enough to play and obviously they don’t think that much of him right now.

8) How is 0-8 Baylor an 8-point road favorite? Is Kansas that bad? Neither team has beaten a I-A opponent this season— Baylor lost at home to I-AA Liberty.

7) Sports are fun because unusual things happen; who would’ve thought that Kyle Kuzma would be the Lakers’ best rookie so far this young season? (No one). The Utah alum is scoring 14 ppg through Lakers’ first eight games.

6) TCU has pounded on Texas the last three years, winning by a combined score of 129-26. Texas is 4-4, but only one of the Longhorns’ four losses was by more than five points.

5) Buccaneers are struggling at 2-5; New Orleans won its last five games. Bucs got their first-ever win in the Superdome, 39 years ago, after starting out their franchise history 0-26.

4) Unbeaten Miami is a pick ’em at home with Virginia Tech; favorites covered last three series games– even spread says Tech is the better team here. Hokies are 4-3 SU in their last seven visits to Miami.

3) Lions are 1-22 in their last 23 visits to Green Bay, plus three more losses in Milwaukee before that; they’re a road favorite in Lambeau, but with Brett Hundley at QB for the Packers. Green Bay was outscored 28-3 in second half of the two games since Rodgers got hurt.

2) Arizona covered five of its last six visits to USC; Wildcats lost their last four games with USC, but 3 of those 4 losses were by 8 or less points.

1) There was great joy in Houston Wednesday night, when the Astros won the World Series, then Deshaun Watson tore his ACL in practice Thursday, which effectively ended the Texans’ season. Expectations are low for Tom Savage’s return to the lineup; the line for this game dropped from 14 to 7 within hours of Watson’s injury becoming public.
