        • NFL notebook: Former Bears DE Thierry dies
          November 25, 2017

Former Chicago Bears defensive end John Thierry died, the team announced Saturday. Thierry was 46.

"The Chicago Bears offer their deepest condolences on the passing of former linebacker John Thierry," the team said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to John and his family."

The Bears did not announce the cause of death. Former Chicago offensive lineman Marcus Spears said in an Instagram post Thierry suffered a heart attack on Friday.

Thierry was the 11th overall pick out of Alcorn State by the Bears in 1994. He spent his first five seasons with Chicago and also played for the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons during a nine-year career.

--The San Francisco 49ers activated defensive lineman Tank Carradine from the injured reserve list ahead of Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks.

To make room on the roster, the team waived linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Carradine was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 25 after appearing in each of the team's first three games this season (two starts) where he registered seven tackles and one sack.

The 6-3, 220-pound Armstrong appeared in each of the team's 10 games this season (five starts) and registered 53 tackles.

--The Denver Broncos promoted nose tackle Kyle Peko to the active roster from the practice squad.

Peko, 24, will fill a spot opened Thursday when the Broncos waived cornerback Lorenzo Doss.

The 6-foot-1, 305-pound Peko is a second-year player out of Oregon State University who has appeared in two games for the Broncos in addition to competing on the team's practice squad during the last two seasons. He was on Denver's active roster for four weeks this season, playing on defense and special teams in the win against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2.

--The Indianapolis Colts promoted tight end Jason Vander Laan to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and waived offensive guard Isaiah Williams.

The 6-foot-4, 244-pound Vander Laan was signed to the Colts' practice squad on Nov. 3. He participated in the New York Jets' 2017 offseason program and training camp before being waived during final cuts on Sept. 3.

                      November 26, 2017

Game of the Night – Lakers at Clippers – 10:35 PM EST

The battle of Los Angeles commences for the second time this season as the Clippers (7-11 SU, 7-11 ATS) return from a five-game road trip. After losing the first three contests to extend their skid to nine games, the Clippers ended that cold spell by beating the Hawks and Kings. Blake Griffin knocked down the go-ahead jumper with five seconds remaining to give L.A. a 97-95 victory at Sacramento on Saturday, but the Clips failed to cash as 4 ½-point favorites.

The Lakers (8-11 SU, 9-10 ATS) had their brief two-game winning streak halted at Sacramento last Wednesday, 113-102 as one-point underdogs. Luke Walton’s club has won five of its past seven games at Staples Center, even though this is considered a road contest. The Lakers are currently on a 4-1 run to the OVER, while allowing 109 points in four of their past five games.

In the first meeting on opening night, the Clippers routed the Lakers, 108-92 as 6 ½-point favorites. The Clippers limited rookie Lonzo Ball to three points on 1-of-6 shooting, as both teams shot 40% from the floor. Doc Rivers’ squad captured nine of the past 10 meetings with the Lakers, while the Clippers have won 10 straight in the series as the home team.

                      Old vs. New

The Cavaliers own the oldest roster in the league (averaging 30.1 years old), while the 76ers possess the second-youngest roster (24.7). Cleveland (12-7 SU, 6-12-1 ATS) is hitting its stride by winning seven straight games, including a one-point home victory over Charlotte on Friday. However, the Cavaliers failed to cover as 5 ½-point favorites to drop to 0-9-1 ATS at home this season. Cleveland travels to Philadelphia, as the Cavs own a solid 5-1 SU/ATS record in its past six games away from Quicken Loans Arena.

The 76ers (11-7 SU, 14-4 ATS) have compiled the second-best ATS record in the league behind the Celtics so far, while looking to build on a three-game winning streak. Philadelphia continues a six-game homestand, as the Sixers have covered in each of the first four contests, including in a loss as an underdog to Golden State. The Sixers have cashed in seven of nine opportunities as a ‘dog this season, while covering in both home losses to the Cavaliers last season.

                      Eastern Duel

The Celtics and Pistons had some legendary playoff series in the late 80’s, but haven’t had much of a rivalry over the years. The two squads are currently sitting in first place in their respective division one-fifth of the way through the season. Detroit (12-6 SU, 12-5-1 ATS) picked up a solid comeback victory at Oklahoma City on Friday, 99-98 by erasing a 10-point halftime deficit. The Pistons finished UNDER the total for the fifth straight game, including four of those UNDERS on the highway.

Detroit heads to Boston (18-3 SU, 17-3-1 ATS), who is coming off an impressive back-to-back sweep of Orlando and Indiana this past weekend. Although the opponents weren’t great, the Celtics rebounded from a loss at Miami that snapped a 16-game winning streak to blast the Magic, while overcoming a nine-point halftime hole in Saturday’s win at Indiana. The C’s begin a five-game homestand as Boston looks to continue its dominance of Detroit after capturing three of four meetings last season.

                      Texas Tussle

The Mavericks (5-15 SU, 7-13 ATS) have gotten off to a slow start this season, but Dallas has suddenly won three of its past four games. Rick Carlisle’s club is coming off an impressive victory over Oklahoma City on Saturday as six-point underdogs, 97-81. Dallas is currently on an 8-2 UNDER run, while holding three of its past four opponents to 94 points or less. The Mavs make the short trip to San Antonio, looking to avenge a 97-91 home setback to the Spurs earlier this month.

Point guard Tony Parker is expected to make his season debut for the Spurs (12-7 SU, 10-9 ATS) after missing the first month of the season with a quadriceps injury. San Antonio returns home after routing Charlotte on Saturday, 106-86 to win for the seventh time in the last 10 games. Gregg Popovich’s team has dominated as a home favorite this season by compiling an 8-1 SU/ATS mark with the lone loss coming to Milwaukee in mid-November.

                      Nothing but Nets

The expectations were low on Brooklyn (7-12 SU, 12-7 ATS) this season, but the Nets have turned a profit so far. Brooklyn is coming off its fifth straight cover in Sunday’s 98-88 triumph at Memphis as five-point underdogs. The Nets put together their best defensive effort of the season by limiting the Grizzlies to 40% shooting from the floor, while winning at Memphis for the second straight season.

The task toughens up on Monday with a trip to Houston (15-4 SU, 11-8 ATS), as the Rockets rallied past the Knicks, 117-102, but failed to cover as 18 ½-point favorites. Houston has won four straight since a home loss to Toronto on November 14, while sweeping the series from Brooklyn last season as both matchups sailed OVER the total.

                      Head-to-Head Matchups

-- The Magic and Pacers are meeting for the second time in a week as Indiana won at Orlando last Monday, 105-97 as 3 ½-point underdogs. The Pacers have captured five straight matchups with the Magic since the start of 2016-17, including a pair of double-digit victories at home last season.

-- The Blazers finish off a five-game road trip after rallying past the Wizards on Saturday. Portland heads to New York seeking its fifth victory in the last six contests, while the Knicks have covered eight straight games at Madison Square Garden. These two teams split a pair of meetings last season as each game finished UNDER the total.

-- The Warriors go for their seventh straight home win as Golden State hosts Sacramento. The Kings have lost nine consecutive road contests since beating Dallas on October 20, while dropping 15 of the past 16 matchups with the Warriors since the start of the 2013-14 season.

Dwyane Wade added 15 points off the bench for the Cavs, who owned a 57-30 advantage in bench points and limited the Sixers to 37.5 percent shooting, including 3-for-28 3-point accuracy. Cleveland shot 48.2 percent, including 40.5 percent (15 of 37) from beyond the arc.

Joel Embiid led Philadelphia, which saw a three-game winning streak end, with 30 points and 11 rebounds. Rookie sensation Ben Simmons was limited to 10 points and eight rebounds before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with a sprained right ankle.

                          Rockets 117, Nets 103

HOUSTON -- James Harden produced another breathlessly efficient scoring performance and Houston rode his hot hand to a victory over Brooklyn.

The Rockets extended their winning streak to five games behind Harden, who scored 37 points on 13-for-20 shooting while adding 10 rebounds and eight assists. He poured in 20 points without a miss in the first quarter as Houston took a 21-point lead it did not relinquish.

Clint Capela added 20 points for the Rockets, Ryan Anderson scored 13 and Eric Gordon 12. Chris Paul shot just 1 for 7 but had 14 assists without a turnover, six boards and two steals.

New York staged a furious rally in the fourth quarter, cutting Portland's lead from 26 at the start of the quarter to eight with under a minute left.
