LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) Rodney Pryor had 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Georgetown withstood a furious second-half rally to hold on for a 65-61 victory over No. 13 Oregon on Monday in the first round of the Maui Invitational.

Georgetown (1-2) led by 17 after a superb first half, capped by Pryor's running 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Ducks (2-2) swarmed their way back, using pressure defense to create turnovers and easy baskets in transition.

Unlike their loss to Maryland last week, the Hoyas weathered the Duck storm and will advance to the second round against No. 16 Wisconsin.

LJ Peak added 17 points and hit two free throws with 2.7 seconds left to seal Georgetown's victory.

Payton Pritchard led Oregon with 18 points. Dillon Brooks had eight points in his first game of the season, including a long 3-pointer with 3.8 seconds left to get the Ducks within 2.

No. 5 KANSAS 83, UAB 63

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Josh Jackson had 22 points, Frank Mason III and Devonte Graham were nearly as productive and Kansas rolled to a victory over Alabama-Birmingham in the CBE Classic semifinals.

Mason finished with 20 points and Graham had 16 for the Jayhawks (3-1), who advanced to play George for the title on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs beat George Washington 81-73 in the other semifinal.

Kansas raced to a big early lead, weathered several runs by UAB, then relied on their backcourt of Jackson, Mason and Graham to pull away from the Blazers down the stretch.

Dirk Williams led the Blazers (2-2) with 13 points. Tyler Madison had 12.

No. 8 ARIZONA 71, NORTHERN COLORADO 55

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Lauri Markkanen scored 17 points, Parker Jackson-Cartwright had 15 points and a career-high 11 assists and Arizona pulled away over the final 12+ minutes to beat Northern Colorado.

Kadeem Allen added 10 for the Wildcats (4-0).

Gerard Davis scored 20 for the Bears (1-3). Chaz Glotta, a transfer from Southern Illinois, made 5 of 11 3-pointers for 15 points.

Jackson-Cartwright, whose previous career best was five assists, committed just one turnover. He had none in the previous game against Sacred Heart.

The Wildcats outscored the Bears 34-16 over the final 12:15.

But most of the night, Northern Colorado - picked by coaches and the media to finish near the bottom of the Big Sky Conference - gave the Wildcats all they could handle.

No. 12 CREIGHTON 86, MISSISSIPPI 77

ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) - Marcus Foster scored 25 points, and Creighton had to rally in the second half to beat Mississippi in the championship game of the Paradise Jam tournament.

Khyri Thomas added 16 points, Toby Hegner had 12 and Justin Patton 11 for the Bluejays (5-0), who trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half and were down 50-40 with 18:44 left in the game.

But Creighton began its rally at that point, whittling down the Rebels' lead until tying the score twice, the last at 74-74 with 5:45 left. Thomas then put the Bluejays ahead to stay with his three-point play with 3:40 remaining.

That ignited a 12-3 Creighton run to close out the game, capped by a pair of free throws from Thomas with 40 seconds left.

Deandre Burnett and Rasheed Brooks scored 22 points each, and Cullen Neal added 10 for Mississippi (4-1).

No. 16 WISCONSIN 74, TENNESSEE 62

Bronson Koenig scored 21 points, Nigel Hayes had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Wisconsin opened the Maui Invitational with a win over Tennessee.

Wisconsin (3-1) built a big early lead and rallied after Tennessee made two runs to take the lead early in the second half. Hayes hit a couple of big 3-pointers and the Badgers pulled away late to earn a spot in the second round on Tuesday.

Wisconsin, in its third Maui Invitational, shot 56 percent and used its size advantage inside to pull down 11 more rebounds. Ethan Happ added 16 points for the Badgers.

Tennessee (1-2) trailed by 17 midway through the first half before finding its footing in Maui.

Shembari Phillips led Tennessee with 16 points, and Detrick Mostella and Robert Hubbs III had 12 each.

NORTHWESTERN 77, No. 22 TEXAS 58

NEW YORK (AP) - Bryant McIntosh had 20 points and five assists to lead Northwestern to a convincing victory over Texas in the semifinals of the Legends Classic at Barclays Center.

The Wildcats (3-1) will play Notre Dame, which beat Colorado 89-81, in the championship game Tuesday night.

Northwestern opened the game with an 11-0 run and closed the first on a 9-0 spurt to take a 34-26 lead.

The Wildcats opened the second half on a 10-1 run to go up by 17 points and the Longhorns (3-1) were never closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

Scottie Lindsey had 16 points and Dererk Pardon had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Northwestern which took advantage of an out-of-synch Texas offense for the easy win.

Tavin Mack scored 18 points for the Longhorns, who finished with 14 turnovers and just seven assists. Texas didn't help itself at the free throw line going 13 for 27.

Arkansas scored 84.3 pts/game in beating three decent teams to open season; they were down 17 in last game vs Tex-Arlington, won by 4. Razorbacks are #19 experience team; they outscored UTA 24-9 on line; Hogs made 44.4% on arc so far- this is their first road game. Minnesota scored 85.5 pts/game in winning four home games; young Gophers are playing #72 pace- they’ve got two top 100 wins, beating Tex-Arlington by 17, St John’s by 6.

Middle Tennessee State beat Toledo by 8 LY in finals of Alaskan Shootout; Blue Raiders split pair of D-I home games to start this season, lost to Tennessee State by 11 after beating Murray State by 6. MTSU is shooting just 57% on foul line so far. Toledo is 2-1 vs decent teams, with three games decided by total of 10 points- their loss was by point to St Joe’s. Colorado got down big early last nite vs Notre Dame, rallied back but lost by 6; Buffs played 8 kids 10:00+, one more than 30:00- they start 4 seniors. Texas played one kid more than 27:00 last nite; they also played 8 guys 10:00+. These teams were Big X rivals up until 2010; Texas won last six series games. Big X teams are 12-6 vs spread this season.

Notre Dame plays Northwestern sometimes in football, but not in hoops; Irish used three kids 32+ minutes last nite, running out to big lead, holding on to win 89-83. Purdue is 2-1, losing by 3 at home to Villanova, then scoring last 20 points of game to beat a decent Georgia State team by 8. Boilers start four juniors and a soph; they’re still shaky vs quickness/pressure. Utah State is 4-0 with only top 200 win at Cal-Irvine; they’ve made 39.1% of 3-pointers. **Wisconsin vs. Georgetown**

-- Unranked Georgetown (2-2 straight up, 1-2 against the spread) raced out to a 38-21 halftime lead and held on to knock off No. 13-ranked Oregon 65-61 as a 9.5-point underdog in Monday’s Maui Classic opener. The Hoyas hooked up their money-line backers with a sweet +425 payout. Rodney Pryor scored was the catalyst with 26 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. L.J. Peak added 17 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and one black. Georgetown limited the Ducks to 4-of-17 shooting from 3-point land (23.5%) and held them to a 39.0 field-goal percentage.

-- This will mark the third straight season that Wisconsin and Georgetown have met. John Thompson III had this to say about the Badgers after yesterday’s win, “Yeah, it’s becoming a conference game, that’s stating the obvious. They’re tough and they make you earn everything. Nothing ever is easy against them. And when you make mistakes, they make you pay. And then you take that and you add the fact that, like it is systematic, forget the system. They’ve got some really good players too.”

-- Georgetown is led by Pryor, a 6’5” transfer from Robert Morris who is averaging 19.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Pryor is shooting 55.8 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from 3-point range. Peak is scoring at a 17.5 PPG clip while making 40 percent of his 3’s and 83.3 percent of his free throws. Jessie Govan, a 6’10 sophomore center, is averaging 13.0 points and 6.2 RPG.

-- J.T. III’s squad came to the Maui Classic on a two-game losing streak after falling to Maryland (76-75) at Verizon Center and vs. Arkansas St. (78-72) at home. The Terrapins rallied from a nine-point deficit with 4:25 left thanks to four of Melo Trimble’s 22 points in the final 11 seconds. Trimble’s two free throws with seven ticks remaining provided the winning points. The Hoyas collected their other win over South Carolina Upstate (105-60) in a non-lined affair.

-- Wisconsin (3-1 SU, 0-2 ATS) collected a 74-62 win over Tennessee on Monday, but the Badgers failed to cover the number as a 13.5-point favorite. The 136 combined points dipped ‘under’ the 137.5-point total. Senior guard Bronson Koenig hit 9-of-15 shots and finished with 21 points, four assists and just one turnover. Nigel Hayes added 17 points, 10 rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals, while Ethan Happ contributed 16 points and six boards.

-- UNC played well past midnight Eastern last night. Roy Williams’s bunch avoided the fate other schools have dealt with when facing Chaminade in the past, most notably Ralph Sampson’s Virginia team in the early 1980s that fell victim to one of the biggest upsets in college basketball regular-season history. The Tar Heels won by a 104-61 count as 32-point favorites. Senior forward Isaiah Hicks had 22 points and six boards, while Kennedy Meeks produced 20 points and 10 rebounds. Tony Bradley, a 6’10 freshman power forward, contributed 14 points and eight boards in only 18 minutes of playing time. Bradley made 5-of-6 shots from the field.

-- Oklahoma State (4-0 SU, 1-0 ATS) advanced to the Maui Classic semifinals by beating UConn 98-90 as a four-point ‘chalk.’ The 188 combined points soared ‘over’ the 151-point total. Sophomore guard Jawun Evans erupted for 35 points, six assists, five steals, four rebounds and only one turnover. Jeffrey Carroll, a junior reserve swingman, had 18 points, eight boards and a pair of steals in 23 minutes of action. Phil Forte III, a fifth-year senior guard who was granted a medical redshirt last season, had 18 points and buried 3-of-4 attempts from long distance.

-- Evans is playing like one of the nation’s premier guards. He is averaging 26.3 points, 6.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game. Evans is draining 66.7 percent of his launches from 3-point land. Forte (21.0 PPG) is hitting 53.3 percent of his shots from the field and 42.9 percent of his 3-balls. Carroll is scoring at a 18.5 PPG clip and is pulling down 8.0 RPG. Carroll has made 66.7 percent of his shots, including 60.0 percent from behind the line.

-- Brad Underwood’s team is third in the nation in scoring (104.8 PPG) and it is making 41.0 percent of its 3’s.

-- Oklahoma State won its first three games at home, all of which were non-lined affairs. The Cowboys beat up on Campbell (102-65), Central Arkansas (102-90) and New Orleans (117-72).

-- UNC has wins at Tulane (95-75), vs. UT-Chattanooga (97-57), vs. Long Beach State (93-67) and at Hawaii (83-68).

-- According to the Associated Press, Williams had this to say about OSU following the win over Chaminade: “Now we’ve got a big-time challenge. I told (my team) it’s the big leagues tomorrow because Oklahoma State was really, really impressive tonight.”

-- Florida improved to 4-0 with Monday’s 78-61 win over Belmont as a 12.5-point ‘chalk’ at Amalie Arena in Tampa. Canyon Barry led the way with a team-best 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting in 21 minutes of playing time. KeVaughn Allen added 14 points for the Gators, who raced out to a 15-0 lead and were never threatened. John Egbunu scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Devin Robinson was also in double figures with 11 points. UF looks big, fast and deep in Mike White’s second season.

-- The ‘under’ is now 3-0 in UF games after the 139 combined points stayed ‘under’ the 153.5-point total in the win over Belmont.

-- Georgia won its third consecutive game by beating George Washington 81-73 as a 4.5-point favorite Monday at Sprint Center in Kansas City. Yante Maten and J.J. Frazier, who are both first-team All-SEC candidates, scored 18 points apiece. Juwan Parker produced nine points, 11 rebounds and five assists compared to just one turnover. The Bulldogs will take on Kansas tonight at 10:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2. As of early this morning, one offshore had KU listed as a 13.5-point favorite with a total of 148.

-- In other Maui Classic action today, Tennessee is a 12-point underdog vs. struggling Oregon for a 1:30 p.m. Eastern tip on ESPN2.

Preview: Volunteers (1-2) at Ducks (2-2)

Oregon fell from No. 4 to No. 13 in the Associated Press poll this week, and the Ducks may depart the Top 25 next week.

After losing to unranked Baylor last week, the Ducks fell 65-61 to unranked Georgetown in the first round of the Maui Invitational on Monday. The Ducks (2-2) went into the consolation bracket to face Tennessee (1-2) on Tuesday.

Oregon hoped to face No. 16 Wisconsin in the second round and maybe No. 4 North Carolina in the title game, but it instead faces the Volunteers in an early-morning matchup.

"It doesn't matter because we are unranked now, so we don't have to worry about that," Ducks coach Dana Altman said. "I don't know who the heck we think we are. We are unranked, so we just have to go play. We better get guys to step up and play a lot better. If we don't make some adjustments and play fundamentally sound, things won't go well for us (Tuesday) either."

Oregon fell behind Georgetown 38-21 at halftime and rallied to take a 43-42 lead before losing the game.

"We've got to have energy to start the game," Ducks guard Casey Benson said. "It was a big comeback, but we did not finish it off. That's kind of the way it went."

The good news for Oregon was that all-Pac-12 junior forward Dillon Brooks returned against the Hoyas after missing three games following offseason foot surgery. He had eight points in just 13 minutes off the bench as he works his way back into the lineup.

"It's good to have his passion on the floor," Altman said. "He's trying to do a lot of things. We held him to the 10 or 15 minutes that we thought we'd play him, and he was mad because he wanted to play more. We are going to stick with the plan that we have for him."

Tennessee fell behind Wisconsin 12-0 before rallying to take a 46-44 lead, but then lost by 12.

"As you would expect with so many young guys, we came out a little bit jumpy to start the game," Tennessee coach Rick Barnes said. "I thought we showed terrific mental toughness fighting back against an experienced team."

Guard Shembari Phillips led the Volunteers with 16 points against the Badgers. Guards Robert Hubbs III and Detrick Mostella added 12 points apiece.

"It was very encouraging," Phillips said. "As people know, we are a young team so we had to fight back through some adversity today."

Through their first two games -- an 82-69 loss to Chattanooga and a 103-94 victory over Appalachian State -- the Volunteers had five players averaging in double figures: guard Jordan Bone (14 points per game), Hubbs (13.5), guard Lamonte Turner (13.5), forward Grant Williams (10.5) and forward Kyle Alexander (10). Phillips' average is up to 11.7 after his performance against Wisconsin.

Hubbs is a senior. The Vols' five other top scorers are all either freshmen or sophomores.

Preview: Longhorns (3-1) at Buffaloes (3-1)

NEW YORK - Texas coach Shaka Smart does not have much time to try to fix the things that went wrong for his No. 22 Longhorns in a 77-58 loss to Northwestern late Monday night in the Legends Classic at the Barclays Center.

The Longhorns (3-1) tip-off at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday against Colorado (3-1) in the consolation game of the tournament. Notre Dame faces Northwestern in the evening's title game.

Texas led for only 3:23 against Northwestern and trailed by double digits for the entire second half.

The Longhorns shot 48 percent from the line and 37 percent from the floor. They turned the ball over 14 times, were out-rebounded 40-31 and allowed Northwestern to score 18 second-chance points.

It was the first time in nearly three years that Northwestern knocked off a Top 25 team.

So where does Smart and his coaching staff start?

"I think the most important thing is to come with great energy and be able to turn the page quickly and what goes into winning this next game," he said. "Obviously there's going to be a lot of things on tape that we're going to want to practice and do better and get better at through practice, but we don't have that luxury between now and 3:30.

"We're going to have to get our guys rest tonight, wake up in the morning and talk about what we need to do and work together as a unit to be better that we were tonight."

Tevin Mack paced Texas with 18 points.

Northwestern set the tone early by opening the game on an 11-0 run en route to a 34-26 halftime lead.

The Wildcats opened the first 3:14 of the second half with a big outburst, going on a 10-1 run for a 44-27 cushion.

Northwestern closed out the first half on a 9-0 run to take a 34-26 advantage. Scottie Lindsey scored seven points in the spurt, finishing with 13 points in the half.

Texas made just nine shots in the half, including five 3-pointers.

A 3-pointer from Mack gave the Longhorns a 23-22 lead, their first of the half, with 7:13 remaining.

A 20-9 blitz by Texas tied the score at 20 after Northwestern took a sizable early lead.

The Wildcats forced six turnovers in the first seven minutes.

"I thought Northwestern did a great job of starting the game with aggressiveness," said Smart. "They got that big lead. For us it's an experience that we need to learn from and grow. There's a lot of things that we're going to take from the tape that we can fix and do better with slight adjustments."

Earlier Monday, Colorado dropped an 89-83 decision to Notre Dame in the opener of the tournament.

The Buffaloes trailed by 15 points at halftime and were able to get as close as four points twice in the final minute, but Notre Dame went 14 for 14 from the free throw line over the final 1:33.

Xavier Johnson led the Buffaloes with 23 points, and Derrick White had 20 points and nine assists. .

"I liked our guys' fight to get back. You dig yourself a hole in the first half, against a good team it's tough," Colorado coach Tad Boyle said. "They made free throws down the stretch when they had to. I knew they (Notre Dame) were a good free-throw shooting team. So it's tough to come back on teams like that. We have to fight for 40 minutes, not for 20."

The Buffaloes came in allowing 59.3 points per game.
