My point with Flacco was simply that he's won playoff games for 3 straight years, IMO that means something. I still think its a huge disadvantage the Pack has only 2 players with SB experience.

I respect Rodgers as a QB, I just believe you have to earn "elite" status. Brady, Payton and yes, Big Ben are in that club in the NFL now, but that's it. Really feel like the Steelers revel in the "underdog" role, they just love that us against the world mentality.

It is funny that when these teams met last year it was a total track meet, with Pitt winning on the last play. Can't see that happening again, but stranger things have.

You have to love all the ties with McCarthy born and raised in Pgh, Capers, Greene with Steelers ties. McCarthy's sister actually lives 4 houses down from one of my best friends, she has the guts to have a Packers mail box in Steelers country, god bless her, LOL.

Should be a hell of a game. Pretty pissed I'm not going, but didn't want to take out a second mortgage for a ticket. Can't wait for the game to get here.

I'm on the Steelers ML, and plus the points. Still don't know what to do about the total. I did see Raven did some quality research on the total and SB total history, check it out if you haven't already.

BOL to all with whatever you play.

Sanchez played much better than I expected especially after getting hit pretty damn hard in the first half, but Ben was the 2nd best player on the field on Sunday only behind Mendenhall. Stats don't mean squat, watch the game, watch all the little things that he does to avoid a constant pass rush, look at even the little short passes in windows not big enough to see through. Ben is an elite QB, he won't get the credit because the Steelers won't throw the ball like NE, or GB, or New Orleans. Hell they only threw the ball 19 times in that game,, but I will tell you this, they threw the ball 2 times on that last drive which is more than almost any other team would; why? becasue they knew #7 in the 4th quarter would produce. But that is ok, because I don't give a shit if he gets credit, as long as the wins and the Super Bowls keep rolling in....

Ben is a Winner no doubt. He has all the intangibles and he is a tough SOB for sure. The Steelers are a great team overall. They can run, pass and play defense. I just think it is a bad matchup for them here. I also thought the Packers were being sold short in this thread and that is when the discussion took off.

The Pack has the best D in the history of Football, and don't even get me started on Mr. Aaron Rodgers.

My only disappointment is that they've decided to close the roof. If for some crazy reason the Steelers decide to show up, if it would have rained we all could have watched Mr. Rodgers walk on water.

Four playoff games with one loss and no Super Bowls in five years certainly makes him first ballot Hall of Fame, and light years ahead of Brady, Manning, Brees, etc.

I'm off to buy a cheesehead.

              FYI.........

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (high ankle sprain) was on crutches and sporting a hard cast on his lower left leg Wednesday morning.

The hard cast rather than a soft cast or walking boot suggests the injury is every bit as serious as initially expected. Pouncey was optimistic about playing in the Super Bowl Monday, but he declined comment on Wednesday. At this point, Doug Legursky appears to be the Super Bowl starter. It's a major concern with B.J. Raji playing like the best nose tackle in football.

My thoughts exactly, I think the Steelers can win but I certainly don't like the match up.

I have seen the comparison in this thread about the losses to NO and NE and I think GB looks just like those teams but better.

I am glad Dick L has a couple of weeks to work on his D but I think it's more of a favorable match up for the Pack.

                IMO

First of all you do know this is only his 3rd season playing right? I would say going from 6-10 to a playoff loss last year (which he put up over 40pts) and then in his 3rd year getting to the superbowl is pretty solid.

And if people wanted to attack they could say the steelers won superbowls against Arizona and Seattle with one of them being somewhat controversial. Ben is a great QB but I guess we are all seeing Rodgers has so many tools and is doing this with no runnng game and so many guys not even playing right now. Next year the team is even better.

If we are just using the superbowl thing to compare these two I think it will be close by the end of their careers. Rodgers just had to sit while Ben got thrown in there right. But he had a top 3 defense and plenty of players on offense to help his entire career. Packs defense was awful his first 2 years. This year the defense got better with a great draft and Rodgers getting better and better. Injuries almost stopped them in their tracks. He gets guys back next year and with them being in the bottom 5 of total salaries in the league, they are able to fill gaps if need be. This team could be scary good the next bunch of years.

Many people probably would have made the same type of statements about another young, promising QB. Very early in his career he took a team to the Super Bowl. They didn't win that, but everyone just assumed he'd win his share of Super bowls.

Dan Marino is the guy I'm talking about. And yes, I have as many SB Championship rings as him. My point being, its all speculation on Rodgers behalf at this point. Ben already has two with a shot at three, that's a pretty elite club in the history of the NFL. Hell, Rodgers may win the next 10 SB's in a row for all we know.

Good luck with whatever you play.

And if in 2020 AR is lifting his 9th, or 3rd or whatever Lombardi, please bump this thread and remind us you predicted it.

Steelers LG Chris Kemoeatu told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that C Maurkice Pouncey (ankle) is out for the Super Bowl.
So much for "competitive advantage." Eric Mangini would be none too pleased. Though backup Doug Legursky has flashed in spot starts, it's a potentially major blow to Pittsburgh's Super Bowl chances, and may even affect the spread. Pouncey has been the team's top lineman all season. If Kemoeatu is right, the Steelers will start four backups on the front five.

Depth never hurts, but there is no chance Smith will be in game shape, he's just been out too long. Also the last I read he is still very questionable to be back in time. That said, Ziggy has made a name for himself with little no drop off.

Steelers DE Aaron Smith (triceps) is not expected to play in Super Bowl XLV.

"You can't help but get frustrated sometimes," he said. "Just the fact it takes time; you can't do anything to speed it up." The Steelers kept Smith on the active roster rather than injured reserve for over three months in hopes of a postseason return, but it isn't an easy injury to recover from. "It would be nice if it were under my control," Smith said. "If you could outwork this, it would be great, I'd just outwork the problem."

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms that the Steelers are "preparing to go with" Doug Legursky at center in the Super Bowl.

Schefter cautions that the Steelers haven't ruled out Maurkice Pouncey (high ankle sprain) yet, but all signs point to the rookie Pro Bowler sitting out. Pro Football Focus graded Legursky poorly as both a pass and run blocker in 2010, particularly in run blocking. It's bad news for a team whose only clear-cut advantage over Green Bay is its running game.

Yeah, the winner of the pro bowl has plenty to do with the super bowl.

Damn Chuck, come up with something better than that
