Hey savage, Beckett pitched great last night. Did you happen to see what Lincecum did? He is on a level BY HIMSELF right now.

Again I am saying for this season only-it is end of July-would you rather go into the latter part of the season to try to win a WS with a great and proven player in Beckett or with the two very good SF pitchers who haven't proven they would be winners for the SOX for THIS season?
That is the issue-I would rather take my chances with Beckett-if you and others disagree, well I respect that.
Perhaps I will write a letter after 7/31 to Theo to ask what he would have done if presented with the situation and under the criterion I listed;I guess that is the only way we will ever find out. lol
ps I would agree that most of the GM"s for their particular team would take Lincecum and Cain over Beckett as far as the future, BUT as far as winning a WS for THIS season in BOSTON, I have doubts as to whether the Sox would do it ot not.
Again it is an interesting topic and I certainly don't regard it as a no brainer either way.

2 for 1 savage? You would be retarded not to take that and YES, FOR THIS SEASON. You have last years Cy Young Winner and a guy that is going to win it again this year, along with a guy who carries a era just over 2. I'll take my chances!

Lincecum pitched great last night, is a great pitcher, and I would love to him on the Sox but not at the expense of Beckett at this point in the season when the criterion is to win a WS for this season for reasons stated earlier.

Not even with Cain huh? You seemed not to mention him.

The obvious difference in opinion lies in the fact that I am not comfortable that these guys haven't proven themselves in the AL or AL East yet;again depending on what happens between now and the end of the season, I might very well change my mind but not at this juncture-I know what I have with Beckett with the SoxlI don't know what I have with the SG guys re:the Sox, Fenway Park, the AL and AL East;I wouldn't do it-you would- dine-lets just hope Sox win it all no matter what they do or don't do before 7/31 with more realistic trades-thats really all that matters.

Beckett wasn't proven in the AL East either when he got here.

This is true, but he was instrumental in defeating the Yankees in the WS.
Now that we know what he can do and what he has done, I sure as heck wouldn't want him to leave in the middle of the season and be replaced in the middle of the season with two very good SF pitchers but unproven with the Sox, SL, etc. in the hopes that they could immediately step in with no period of adjustment, etc.and help Sox win a WS for THIS season-again I can't stress that enough)tghis season);in all honesty and fairness I should have stressed this also in my first post in this thread.
At the end of the season and assuming Sox don't win and/or get to Ws and/or if they do, Beckett isn't so hot, I probably would change my mind especially if it meant getting towo very good pitchers, but now under the circumstances, I wouldn't do if if offered before 7/31-I would rather go with the proven commodity with the Red Sox than gamble with the other guys.

That was an oversight-I meant no trade for the both of them for this season only.

                    • I guess you could say that I want the battle tested guy pitching for me at this point in the season.

I guess i would rather have Lincecum, Lester and Cain in a 3 game series over Beckett, Lester and Penny

I would actually want Beckett, Lester and Wakefield going for me at this point and for that matter hopefully Halladay in place of Wakefield.
The point is and as I said before, that I wouldn't want the Sox to take the chance at this point in the season that the Francisco pitchers could step right up there with the increased pressure of pitching for the Sox against some tough AL teams(you need to beat them before getting to the World Series) and do what they did against the NL teams without missing a beat-in my mind to assume they could, takes a lot for granted and makes some very broad assumptions.

No I don't. I stoped watching ESPN (AKA the Eastern Sports People's Network) a long time ago just basicly on what you wrote. You cant turn on that fucking channel without it being a Boston, Yankee, Philly, Met love fest. The station is so obsessed with the teams in the N.E it makes it unwatchable for me. The Yankees, or Boston could be playing K.C and it will be the lead story. I guess it's great if you are a fan of those teams though.

How about the MLB Network? Are they biased too?

                              • Lester's numbers are pretty good overall and i posted his accolades already. If you do not know who Lester is, after he pitched and won a WS game, you sure as hell have no idea who Matt Cain and his career losing record is.
