I have recently started a facebook page, its ok,BUT I TRIED TO GET in touch with some old highschool girlfriends and old buddies,BUT IT SEEMS THE TITANIC HAS MORE LIVING SURVIVORS THAN MY SENIOR CLASS HAS.BEING OLD AS DIRT SUCKS GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wayne's thread kind of heightened my awareness of the social networking craze. Just the last couple of days, I've gotten several emails from representatives of professional organizations and commercial companies with whom I deal inviting me to check out their Facebook and/or Twitter sites to keep up with what's going on in their worlds. On most days I would have just deleted the emails without reading them since they were among about 150-200 emails I get each day in my work email. Hell, it's all I can do to keep up with what's going on in my own damn world. On a good day, I'm overwhelmed with information overload.

I also read in a professional publication about some surgeons who are using Twitter for patient education. University alumni associations use it. Teachers use it. wow...all based on the stupid concept, 'what are you doing?" All this social networking is a little too much 'connectedness' for a crotchety old bastard like me. There are many times when I don't want the world to know 'what are I doing?"

Ashton Kutcher was all over TV last week. He challenged CNN to see who could be the 1st to get 1 million followers on Twitter. Both were close but Kutcher was the 1st. He was on a few tv shows talking about it. It's a big time craze right now. What kind of society do we live in when Ashton Kutcher is the 1st to reach a million followers and he has more than CNN.

Ellen Degeneres started using Twitter about 3-4 weeks ago after she talked about it on her show and yesterday she reached 1 million followers. I heard that one reported too. I'm telling you guys, this thing is huge!

I wonder if it is on the stock market? If it is, it can't be doing anything but going up.

I signed up for Twitter earlier this week...some thoughts:
I have no idea why anyone would ever follow me as I cannot believe anything I do would be remotely interesting to people.
Being a bit of a Pop Culture guy, I think it is pretty interesting to hear what some celebs have to say and what they do.
Part of the reason why I signed up is for work...I am in the hotel biz and I signed up to follow some of the large hotel brands and it is pretty interesting what deals they throw out there.
In my short time on it, my fave Tweeters are Kutcher, Bill Simmons (ESPN - he is awesome); Ric Bucher (ESPN); Shaq and Mark Cuban.
One day after I joined Cuban's group, his brother joined as a follower of me and, ironically, his brother is a lawyer!!! I wonder if he does this for all of the people who follow MC.
I will never post what I am doing.
