Hey, i said i was biased but when i see 2 out 3 agree with me at ESPN and i hear many baseball writers/purists say they will vote for him on tv & radio, it fuels my belief that it isn't just a biased opinion and he will get in.

this was before the homerun days he was one of the most feared hitters in the game during this span.he also won 2 mvp awards back to back for a team that finished dead last in the national league.he also had a cal ripken like streak where he never missed a game.if he would have played in new york or la he would be a first ballot hall of famer.
I would say he is close. From 1971 to 1991 across the board he compares with Schmidt, Evans, Rice, Murray, Brett and Ripken. So he deserves to be in the discussion.

I think Wayne's thoughts about winning though do have to be considered and I think that has always hurt Rice and Evans, as well as the persona. So to me he is on the edge and deserves to be considered.

I was actually going to post again and say that Bill. You are right and if Rice had won the '86 WS, he would have been in alot sooner than now. Same with Murphy. If Murphy had just 1 Ring, he would probably be in already. When a player wins, he is forever considered a "Champion" and when good/great players are up for debate to the Hall, seeing a WS Title on the resime holds a ton of weight and added lure (IMO).

          If you add ...

"Won the WS in 1987 & 1987 WS MVP" to his resime, EVERYONE looks at Dale Murphy differently and he would have been in years ago. The voters would look at him in a totally new way. He never really had his shot on the big stage and it cost him. Sad but true

And I think that is ONLY why Schilling is getting the consideration and discussion.

11-2 2.23 ERA in 133 Innings with 120 SO in the post seasons

In 4 world series 4-1 2.06 ERA in 48 Innings with 43 SO

But does that mean Bernie Williams should be in the hall of fame because of his post season 180 games 83 Runs 22 HR 80 RBI postseason success, probably not

Bernie is a tough one for me Bill. I think it is very tough comparing Pitchers to Hitters overall. I think if you compare Schilling's Postseason to other pitchers, he is one of the Best All Time.

I also heard today that Schilling has the Best K to BB Ratio of All Time for Pitchers with 200 or more wins. That is a huge stat and it shows great control and dominance (IMO).

Schill helped his teams win 3 titles....Muroh didn't. How many times did he een make the playoffs?

In looking at Murphy's numbers, they ar ebetter than I thought they were...but what you pointed out was ^ yrs...let me repeat, 6 yrs! Are you going to put him in based on those yrs? I don't think he did it long enough. Along the lines of Mattingly.

Schill avergaed almost 16 wins for 11 yrs! And that was with 2 injury filled yrs! One legit knock against him is he never won a Cy Young....

You stole my argument! I was going to bring up Bernie...I think that shoul dbe the next poll. I have a long running argument and a $1000 bet with my friend that he does not get in.

He also finished in the top 9 in Era in 9 seasons and he was in the top 5 in K's for 7 seasons. He was number 1 in WHIP twice and top 5 in WHIP 9 seasons. Top 5 in K's 8 Years, leading the league twice. He also led the league 4 times in complete games and was in the top 3 for complete games 9 times. He was No. 1 in SO to WALK Ratio 5 times between 2001-2006.

In 1993 he was the NLCS MVP, 2001 he was the WS MVP and in 2004 he broke a curse.

I really think his numbers are better than most think.
