        STREAKING AND SLUMPING STARTERS

        STREAKING

Mike Minor, Texas Rangers (8-4, 2.40 ERA, $417):
The 31-year-old southpaw has been fantastic all season long, but his month of June was exceptional. He made five starts over the month, going 3-0 with a 1.70 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and .180 BAA.

Minor faces an Angels team that will play with heavy hearts today after the tragic passing of Tyler Skaggs. The Angels bat just .241 against lefties and have been shut down by Minor over the last two seasons. He’s made four starts against the Halos during that span, with a 1.38 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP, including a complete-game, three-hit shutout earlier this year.

The Rangers are -153 favorites at home.

        SLUMPING

Matthew Boyd, Detroit Tigers (5-6, 3.72 ERA, $-409):
The lefty had been one of the few bright spots on the Tigers going 5-4 with a 2.85 ERA and 1.02 WHIP through the end of May. But he had a rough June with a 5.90 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and BAA of .271 across five starts. Detroit was 0-5 over than span.

Boyd has a history of pitching very well in July, which you can read about in our "best (and worst) MLB pitchers to bet on in July." The Tigers are small -120 favorites today on the road against the White Sox who will start Reynaldo Lopez and 6.12 ERA.

        3 STRIKES

        CORBIN FEVER

Washington pitcher Patrick Corbin has been dominant at home this season going 4-1 with a 2.17 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and .188 BAA in seven starts. Today the Nationals will host the Miami Marlins who bat just .239 and score an National League-worst 3.65 runs per game.

Corbin's last start came against the Marlins and he allowed just one run over seven innings while fanning nine batters on the road. The Nats are -190 favorites with the O/U installed at 9.5.

        COMING UP SHORT IN OAKTOWN

The Twins might have a chip on their shoulder for today's game in Oakland. Despite the second-best record in the American League only two of their players were named to the All-Star game, shortstop Jorge Polanco and pitcher Jake Odorizzi who will start tonight.

Odorizzi is 10-3 with a 2.73 ERA and 1.07 WHIP but has been in a bit of a rut lately. He owned an ERA of 1.92 after his first 13 starts of the season but has given up 11 runs and four homers in 15 1-3 innings over his last three starts.

The A's will have the moustached maestro in Daniel Mengden on the mound. Mengden is 2-1 with a 4.03 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in six appearances.

Minnesota has gone just 6-8 over their last 14 games while the A's are 5-1 in their previous six. The Twins are also just 6-20 in the last 26 meetings between these teams in Oakland.

        FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS

Pittsburgh slugger Josh Bell is coming off a massive performance against the Cubs, smashing three homers and driving in seven runs in a 18-5 rout.

Bell and the Pirates will host the Cubbies once again, this time with right-hander Kyle Hendricks on the mound. Hendricks has struggled on the road with a 5.49 ERA and BAA of .290, while Bell has mashed righties with a slugging percentage of .674.

Bell has +300 odds to hit a dinger today but the best bet might be the Over on his total bases of 1.5. Bell leads the majors with 208 total bases and the Over pays out at -110

        • Ballpark Figures - Week 15
          July 1, 2019
          By Joe Williams

          Tuesday, July 2

The Red Sox use LHP David Price against the Blue Jays, a team which has been brutal against southpaws. Boston has won 14 of the past 17 starts by Price against teams with a losing overall mark, and they're 30-12 across his past 42 starts overall. The Blue Jays have won just two of the past seven starts by RHP Trent Thornton, and they're 2-5 in his past seven at home, too. In addition, Toronto is just 3-8 in the past 11 at home, 8-22 in the past 30 against winning teams and 20-48 in the past 68 against left-handed starting pitchers. In this series the Red Sox are a perfect 5-0 in Price's past five against the Jays, while going 20-6 in the past 26 at Rogers Centre.

The New York Yankees and New York Mets renew acquaintances in their interleague rivalry, this time at Citi Field in Queens. The Yankees, fresh off an offensive show in London in their two-game sweep of the Red Sox, use LHP James Paxton against RHP Zack Wheeler of the Mets. The Yankees are 4-0 in their past four road games, and 23-7 in the past 30 against losing teams. They're also 37-14 in the past 51 against teams with a right-handed starting pitcher. They're 8-2 in Paxton's past 10 starts overall, too. The Mets have lost seven of the past eight games overall, and they're 2-5 in the past seven at home. They're 4-0 in Wheeler's past four home outings, but just 1-4 in his past five against winning teams.

The Cardinals and Mariners kick off an interleague series on Tuesday night at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. RHP Jack Flaherty takes the ball for the Cards, while RHP Matt Carasiti is the opener, with LHP Wade LeBlanc to follow. St. Louis has won just one of the past six, and they're 2-5 in Flaherty's past seven starts overall. They're also 3-8 in his past 11 road outings, and 1-5 in his past six interleague starts. The Mariners are 4-1 in the past five outings at home, but just 19-40 in the past 59 games overall. They're also 0-5 in the past five interleague home outings, and 7-19 in the past 26 interleague battles.

          Weather Report

The Angels and Rangers will again be the first trouble spot of Tuesday's slate. They're again face a stiff 11-14 mph wind blowing in from right field into the face of the batters. It's the opposite for the Astros and Rockies, as they face a 10-13 mph wind blowing out to the left-center field power alley for their interleague series opener. The Twins and Athletics face a 9-12 mph wind blowing out to straightaway center field in Oakland. The good news is that there is no precipitation in the forecast.

            • Mets beat Yanks in Subway Series opener
              July 2, 2019
              By The Associated Press

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Justin Bour delivered a two-run single on the first pitch he saw after replacing injured American League All-Star Tommy La Stella, and the grieving Los Angeles Angels beat the Texas Rangers 9-4 on Tuesday night.

The emotional win came a day after the death of 27-year-old pitcher Tyler Skaggs, who was found unresponsive in his room at the team's hotel before what was supposed to be the series opener Monday. That game was postponed.

A few hours after watching with his teammates as manager Brad Ausmus struggled to keep his composure in a news conference to discuss Skaggs' shocking death, Jonathan Lucroy had a tying two-run single in the sixth inning and finished with three RBIs.

Bour entered the game on a full count with two outs in the sixth after La Stella fouled a 97 mph fastball from Texas reliever Jose Leclerc off his right leg, just below the knee. The second baseman had to be helped off the field.

Kole Calhoun connected for his 18th homer for Los Angeles.

Texas' Delino Deshields circled the bases without the usual fanfare after his second homer of the season. Elvis Andrus stole home for a major league-leading third time.

Los Angeles starter Jose Suarez honored Skaggs with ''RIP 45'' written next to what appeared to be a cross on one side of his ballcap. The initials ''TSK'' were just above the bill on the other side of the Angels logo. He gave up three runs - two earned - with seven strikeouts in four innings.

              METS 4, YANKEES 2

NEW YORK (AP) - Michael Conforto hit a two-run double that snapped an eighth-inning tie and lifted the Mets over the Yankees in their Subway Series opener at Citi Field.

J.D. Davis homered and delivered a tying double to help the Mets rally in the eighth for the second consecutive game.

The Yankees did not hit a home run for the first time in 32 games, ending their record streak. They had their five-game winning streak stopped and lost for only the second time in their past 15.

Seth Lugo (4-2) worked a hitless eighth and Edwin Diaz got three outs to earn his 18th save in 22 attempts.

Zack Wheeler struck out eight over 6 1/3 solid innings for the Mets, who play their crosstown rivals for the final time this season Wednesday night.

Adam Ottavino (3-3) took the loss, working a 1/3 of an inning and allowing two hits and two earned runs.

              RAYS 6, ORIOLES 3

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Charlie Morton struck out six straight batters and a season-high 12 overall, and Tampa Bay beat Baltimore for its fourth straight win.

Morton (9-2) pitched seven innings, giving up four hits and a walk.

Brandon Lowe had a homer among his three hits and drove in two for the Rays before leaving the game in the sixth with a leg contusion. Avisail Garcia had a two-run single and Tommy Pham added a two-run double.

Asher Wojciechowski, making his first start for Baltimore, pitched into the sixth inning, giving up four runs and five hits while striking out six.

Chris Davis' sixth home run accounted for the only run off Morton. Chance Sisco hit a two-run homer off reliever Chaz Roe in the ninth for Baltimore's final two runs.

              PHILLIES 2, BRAVES 0

ATLANTA (AP) - Aaron Nola pitched eight innings, Jay Bruce hit a two-run double and Philadelphia spoiled Dallas Keuchel's home debut with Atlanta.

Nola (7-2) allowed four hits, struck out eight and walked three in his second consecutive scoreless outing. He threw a career-high 117 pitches before Hector Neris finished for his 17th save in 19 chances, striking out the side.

The second-place Phillies, winners of six of eight, trimmed the Braves' NL East lead to 4+ games in front of the seventh sellout at SunTrust Park this season.

Keuchel (1-2) allowed five hits in seven innings in his third start with the Braves.

RED SOX 10, BLUE JAYS 6

TORONTO (AP) - David Price pitched six innings to win his fifth straight decision, Rafael Devers homered twice and matched his career-high with six RBI, and Boston snapped a three-game losing streak.

Christian Vazquez had a homer among his three hits and Mookie Betts had two singles, walked twice, and scored three runs for the Red Sox. Devers finished 4 for 5.

Price (6-2) allowed two runs and four hits in six innings. He walked a season-high four.

Trent Thornton (2-6) allowed career worsts of seven runs and 11 hits in 2 2/3 innings.

              REDS 5, BREWERS 4, 11 INNINGS

CINCINNATI (AP) - Christian Yelich hit his major league-leading 31st homer for Milwaukee, but Yasiel Puig homered to start Cincinnati's comeback and scored the winning run in the 11th inning, ending the Brewers' streak of six straight wins at Great American Ball Park.

Corbin Burnes (1-4) gave up a two-out single to Puig in the 11th, and Jose Iglesias singled to right. Puig continued home when Yelich's throw to the infield bounced away for an error.

Raisel Iglesias (2-7) retired the side in order in the top of the inning.

Eric Thames and Mike Moustakas also homered for the Brewers. Eugenio Suarez had a two-run homer in the first for the Reds.

              NATIONALS 3, MARLINS 2

WASHINGTON (AP) - Patrick Corbin pitched seven strong innings on an emotional night, Trea Turner doubled home the winning run in the ninth as Washington beat Miami.

Yan Gomes reached on an error with one out in the ninth. With two outs, Turner doubled off Jose Quijada (0-2) and Gomes raced home.

A former teammate and close friend of Tyler Skaggs, Corbin wore Skaggs No. 45 rather than his own No. 46. He allowed a run on six hits and struck out seven without a walk.

Sean Doolittle (5-2) pitched one inning for the win in a game that was delayed 76 minutes by rain in the third inning.

Juan Soto hit a two-run homer and a triple for the Nationals, who have won six of seven.

              ASTROS 9, ROCKIES 8

DENVER (AP) - Yuli Gurriel homered twice and drove in four runs to lead Houston over Colorado.

Jose Altuve had four hits and Gurriel and George Springer finished with three hits as the Astros won their fourth straight.

Houston rallied from an 8-5 deficit in the seventh. Gurriel's two-run homer off of reliever Jake McGee (0-1) capped a four-run inning that was started by three straight doubles.

Gurriel also homered in the second inning and doubled home a run in the third.

Will Harris (3-1) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth to get the win and Roberto Osuna pitched the ninth for his 18th save.

              INDIANS 9, ROYALS 5

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Jake Bauers matched a career high with four hits while driving in three runs and the Cleveland bullpen bailed Trevor Bauer out of a late jam in a win over Kansas City.

Bauer (7-6) worked six innings and allowed 11 hits and five earned runs, striking out six.

Most of Cleveland's damage came against Jakob Junis (4-8), who matched a season high by allowing six earned runs over 4 2/3 innings.

The only bright spots for the Royals were Jorge Soler and Adalberto Mondesi. Soler's towering solo home run in the second traveled an estimated 451 feet, while Mondesi trumpeted his return from the injured list with a two-run homer in the fifth.

              PIRATES 5, CUBS 1

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Adam Frazier hit a three-run home run after a long rain delay to lead Pittsburgh past Chicago.

Frazier finished 4 for 4 and scored three runs as the Pirates won for the ninth time in 13 games.

Kyle Hendricks (7-6) ran into early trouble, giving up two runs in three innings with a walk and four strikeouts as Chicago dropped its third straight.

Clay Holmes (1-0) worked two scoreless innings to pick up the win.

Starling Marte had two hits for the Pirates and Josh Bell picked up his major-league leading 78th RBI on a sacrifice fly.

              GIANTS 10, PADRES 4

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Evan Longoria had two home runs among his four hits and drove in five runs, and Kevin Pillar also had four hits for San Francisco in a win over San Diego.

Donovan Solano hit first career leadoff homer and Tyler Beede pitched seven impressive innings for the Giants, who won their third straight game. San Diego lost its third straight.

Left-hander Matt Strahm (3-7) gave up all three homers. He allowed seven runs and 11 hits in five innings, struck out six and walked one

Beede (2-3) made only one mistake, allowing Franmil Reyes' 25th homer leading off the second, an opposite-field shot over the home run deck in right. He held San Diego to four hits in seven innings, struck out four and walked one.

              ATHLETICS 8, TWINS 6

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Chris Herrmann hit a grand slam in his first game as Oakland beat Minnesota for its fourth straight victory.

Herrmann was activated from the injured list after being sidelined since spring training with a knee injury. He connected off All-Star Jake Odorizzi (10-4) to give the A's a 6-3 lead in the fourth inning.

Odorizzi allowed six runs - five earned - and four hits in three-plus innings.

Matt Olson added a two-run homer, Mark Canha hit a solo shot and Robbie Grossman had an RBI single for the A's, who have won 11 of 14 games.

Daniel Mengden (3-1) allowed five runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. Liam Hendriks pitched the ninth for his third save.

Jason Castro hit two solo homers and Miguel Sano had a two-run shot for the Twins.

              MARINERS 5, CARDINALS 4

SEATTLE (AP) - Tim Beckham hit a pinch-hit homer in the eighth inning and Seattle beat St. Louis.

Omar Narvaez also homered for the Mariners, who overcame early and late bullpen troubles and snapped a four-game losing streak. Beckham hit the third pinch-hit homer of his career and 13th home run of the season off Giovanny Gallegos (1-1) to break a 4-all tie.

Yairo Munoz, in the lineup for the injured Matt Carpenter, tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh with a two-out, two-run homer. Mariners reliever Austin Adams (1-0) entered and struck out the four batters he faced to set up Beckham. Roenis Elias pitched the ninth for his 11th save.

Jose Martinez had two solo home runs for the Cardinals, who lost for the sixth time in seven games.

              DODGERS 5, DIAMONDBACKS 4

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Cody Bellinger's bases-loaded walk - the fifth in a row given up by Arizona's bullpen with two outs - forced in the winning run in the ninth for Los Angeles.

Greg Holland (1-1) appeared to lose total command after retiring his first two batters. He walked pinch-hitters Chris Taylor and Kyle Garlick and Alex Verdugo to load the bases. Matt Beaty then walked on four pitches to bring in the tying run and keep the bases loaded.

T.J. McFarland nearly hit Bellinger in the elbow and then walked him on six pitches, forcing in the winning run.

Yimi Garcia (1-2) pitched the ninth to earn the win.

Nick Ahmed staked the D-backs to a 3-0 lead in the second with a two-run homer.

The Dodgers' Enrique Hernandez slugged a two-run homer that tied it 3-all in the fourth.

                  Wednesday’s List of 13: Mid-week musings…….

                  13) On July 2, 1963, Giants beat the Braves 1-0 in 16 innings at Candlestick Park. Willie Mays homered in the 16th inning. Time of game: 4:10. No pitching changes.

Both pitchers threw complete games that night; Juan Marichal and Warren Spahn. Spahn faced 56 batters, Marichal 59.

Took me a while, but I found the pitch counts for this game; Marichal threw 227 pitches, and the 42 year-old Spahn threw 201. One of the most interesting major league games of all time.

If that ever happened today, both managers/pitching coaches would be fired before sunrise.

                  12) I think when they put in the 3-batter minimum in for relief pitchers, it is going to shorten games by 10-15 minutes a game. Pitching changes during an inning add around five minutes apiece.

                  11) One of first things I learned about baseball is that a team must be strong defensively up the middle to win a championship; some of the analytics people who run front offices now disagree with this. Take the Mets.

Amed Roasrio plays shortstop, Michael Conforto plays center for the Mets most days now; Rosario is a lousy SS and his on-base %age is .293. Mets have Lagares/Gomez, who both play CF better than Conforto but Dom Smith is hitting .330, so he plays left and Conforto plays center.

Wonder what the Mets’ pitchers would do if they made out the lineup card?

                  10) Speaking of the Mets, they’re skipping Steven Matz’s start this weekend and will go into the All-Star break after Zach Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard make starts the weekend.

                  9) According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, there is currently “no market” for DeMarcus Cousins, the free agent center who played for Golden State last year.

In 30 regular season games with the Warriors after recovering from an achilles injury, Cousins averaged 16.3 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.5 bpg, and 1.3 spg in 25.7 mpg- he was hoping at least for a one-year, 8-figure contract, but that looks unlikely right now.

                  8) Former NFL QB Anthony Wright was shot multiple times in North Carolina Monday by his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend; Wright played for four NFL teams over the course of an eight-year career, starting 19 games- he went 5-2 starting for the 2003 Ravens.

                  7) Baseball stuff:
                  — Bronx put 1B Luke Voit (ab strain) on IL.
                  — 1B Kendrys Morales was released, is now a free agent.
                  — Cardinals put 3B Matt Carpenter (back) on the IL.

                  6) College basketball transfer portal:
                  — G Jaylen Fisher transfers from TCU to Grand Canyon.

                  5) Pretty good basketball trifecta at Barclays Center Dec 17:
                  Providence – Florida
                  Temple – Miami
                  Iona-Princeton

                  4) There was a hailstorm in western Mexico Sunday that covered parts of the region with as much as three feet of ice; hailstorms aren’t unusual for this time of year, but no one there had ever seen anything as extreme as this before.

                  3) Texas A&M has been in the SEC for seven years and still hasn’t played a football game against Georgia.

                  2) Red Sox will use Nathan Eovaldi as their closer when he comes off the IL.

                  1) One of my favorite hotel/casinos in Las Vegas turned 50 years old Tuesday; the Westgate, formerly the International and then the Las Vegas Hilton, opened on July 2, 1969.

                  • LEADING OFF: HR Derby field coming, Clevinger back up
                    July 2, 2019
                    By The Associated Press

A look at what's happening around the majors Wednesday:

                    SWING KINGS

Major League Baseball is set to announce the participants for next week's Home Run Derby. Six of the eight players are already known - Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Christian Yelich, Ronald Acuna Jr., Pete Alonso, Josh Bell and Carlos Santana. The 20-year-old Guerrero will be the youngest participant ever, 116 days younger than Ken Griffey Jr. in 1990. Guerrero practiced hitting homers during one-minute rounds in Toronto on Tuesday. Rangers slugger Joey Gallo says he won't participate, instead being cautious after recently missing time with a left oblique strain.

                    KEY FOR CLEVELAND

Mike Clevinger hopes a matchup against Kansas City can help him get right. After his masterful start to the season was cut short by a back injury, the Indians right-hander has had a lousy go of it. Over two starts since returning, he's allowed 12 runs in 6 1/3 innings, including a seven-run mishap against the lowly Orioles last time out. Cleveland is on the AL postseason bubble, and Clevinger's status could influence the team's direction at the trade deadline.

                    NO-CARP CARDS

St. Louis will be without Matt Carpenter through the All-Star break after placing the infielder on the IL on Tuesday with a lower back strain. Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said Carpenter was extremely ill over the weekend, taking three bags of intravenous fluids Sunday, and tweaked his back while laid up. Shildt said this is not a long-term injury and that Carpenter could have been rushed back into the lineup for the San Francisco series this weekend. But the team decided to allow him to recuperate and gain back the weight he lost while sick.

                    `PEN SHUFFLE

Steven Matz is moving to the bullpen for now as the Mets again overhaul a major problem area with a flurry of roster moves. Veteran relievers Jeurys Familia, Justin Wilson and Luis Avilan were reinstated from the injured list before Tuesday's game against the Yankees, and Brooks Pounders, Chris Flexen, Stephen Nogosek and Chris Mazza were sent to Triple-A. New York's bullpen began the day leading the majors with 21 blown saves in 40 chances, ranked second with 19 losses and was 28th out of 30 teams in ERA at 5.64. The relievers posted a big league-worst 7.53 ERA in June and were 3-12 with an 8.05 ERA since May 27.

                            • Wednesday's Diamond Notes
                              Kevin Rogers

Hottest team: Athletics (11-3 last 14)

Oakland remained on fire following a road series victory over the Angels as the A’s knocked off the AL Central-leading Twins on Tuesday. The A’s rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Twins, 8-6 as a short underdog, as Oakland has posted 20 runs in the past two victories. The catalyst for Oakland was catcher Chris Herrmann, who drilled a grand slam in his second at-bat of the season to give the A’s a 6-3 advantage, as Oakland improved to 4-1 in the last five series openers.

The A’s continue their series with Minnesota at the Coliseum with right-hander Mike Fiers taking the mound this evening. Fiers is unbeaten in his last five starts, while the veteran has allowed one earned run in each of his past three outings. The A’s have won six of Fiers’ eight starts at the Coliseum this season, while Fiers beat the Twins twice in 2018 after getting acquired by Oakland in August.

Coldest team: Tigers (1-9 last 10)

Detroit couldn’t end its cold stretch last night, but it wasn’t its fault. The Tigers and White Sox were postponed due to rain in Chicago, as the two teams will play a double-header today. Actually, the AL Central rivals were scheduled for a double-dip today prior to Tuesday’s outcome, as last night’s scheduled affair will be made up in late September. The Tigers last beat an American League opponent on June 12 at Kansas City, while losing 13 of their past 15 games, including four straight road losses.

In the last matchup between the White Sox and Tigers in Chicago back in late April, the Sox captured both matchups, including rallying from an 8-1 deficit in a 12-11 win on April 26. Left-hander Daniel Norris will start in the double-header opener this afternoon for Detroit as he has given up two runs in three of his last four starts with the Tigers splitting those contests.

Hottest pitcher: Sonny Gray, Reds (4-5, 3.94 ERA)

Cincinnati and Milwaukee have split a pair of exciting games at Great American Ballpark as the Reds walked-off past the Brewers last night. Gray started slowly this season in his first year with the Reds, but the right-hander has pitched well since the middle of May. Cincinnati has won seven of Gray’s last eight starts, including a 3-1 mark at Great American Ballpark during this stretch. Gray defeated the Cubs his previous start by allowing two earned runs in 6.1 innings of a 6-3 win, while tossing six scoreless innings at Milwaukee last month in a 3-0 victory.

Coldest pitcher: Yu Darvish, Cubs (2-4, 4.98 ERA)

Darvish pitched well at Dodger Stadium in a 2-1 victory on June 15 by giving up one run and two hits in seven innings of work. However, the veteran right-hander has been tagged his last two starts for nine runs in 11 innings of work as the Cubs lost to the Mets and Braves at home. Chicago has struggled of late on this road trip by dropping three straight at Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. Darvish lost to the Pirates at Wrigley Field earlier this season as a -165 favorite in April, 5-2 by yielding five runs in 5.1 innings of work.

Biggest OVER run: Red Sox (8-2 last 10)

In the series heard around the world this past weekend, the Red Sox allowed 29 runs in a pair of losses to the rival Yankees in London. Boston’s offense did its share by scoring 21 runs in those two games, as the lineup stayed hot in Toronto on Tuesday by plating 10 runs in a 10-6 victory. The offense can’t be blamed for the recent woes as Boston has compiled 50 runs in the last six contests, while scoring less than six runs once in the past 10 games. Chris Sale takes the mound tonight at Rogers Center for the Red Sox as the OVER has hit in each of his past two starts, while the OVER is 2-0 in his two outings against Toronto this season.

Biggest UNDER run: Braves (6-2-1 last nine)

Atlanta went through a stretch of 10 consecutive OVERS in June, but that trend has turned around heading into July. The Braves were blanked by the Phillies last night, 2-0, suffering their first shutout since early May against the Dodgers. The offense hasn’t been terrible during this UNDER stretch (except for last night), as Atlanta had scored five runs or more in its previous five games. The Braves played to three UNDERS in four games against the Cubs, while now hitting the UNDER in their second straight home game following a 13-game OVER streak at SunTrust Park. Bryse Wilson makes his third start of the season for Atlanta, as the right-hander allowed six runs in less than five innings of a 9-7 defeat to the Cubs last Saturday.

Matchup to watch: Astros vs. Rockies

Houston and Colorado let the ball fly at Coors Field on Tuesday as the Astros outlasted the Rockies, 9-8 as a +120 underdog. The Astros jumped out to a 5-2 lead before the Rockies rallied for five runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-5 advantage. Houston scored the final four runs of the game in the seventh as Yuli Gurriel’s second homer of the night proved to be the difference. Colorado has now cashed the OVER in seven of the past eight games at Coors Field, as the Rockies have allowed at least eight runs in seven of those contests.

The Astros seek their fifth consecutive win tonight as Wade Miley heads to the mound. The left-hander shut down the Mariners in a 2-1 home victory by allowing three hits and one run in six innings to improve to 4-1 at Minute Maid Park this season. However, the Astros are 1-3 in Miley’s last four starts on the road, but tossed 4.2 scoreless innings in the NLDS last October at Coors Field in a 6-0 victory as a member of the Brewers.

Peter Lambert counters for Colorado, as the right-hander started his career with a pair of impressive starts against the Cubs. However, the California native has been knocked around for 16 runs in his pat three starts (12.2 innings), while the Rockies are 0-3 in those outings. The OVER has cashed in each of Lambert’s last four starts, while Colorado last lost consecutive games at Coors Field to the same opponent back in May against Arizona.

                              Betcha didn’t know:
Where did the latest surge from the San Francisco offense come from? The Giants have tallied double-digit runs in three consecutive games, including putting up a 10-spot in Tuesday’s 10-4 blowout of the Padres. The Twins, who lead baseball in runs, have not scored 10 or more runs in three straight contests this season, as the Giants face right-hander Cal Quantrill tonight at Petco Park. The last time Quantrill started a game back on June 14, the Rockies scored a total of 12 runs (granted, the game was at Coors Field) in a 16-12 setback to the Padres.
