The under is 4-1 in the past five meetings in this interleague series.

The Blue Jays and Orioles will battle at Camden Yards after a high-scoring battle on Tuesday night. LHP Ryan Borucki will take the ball against the disappointing RHP Alex Cobb. The over has been the play lately for the lefty rookie Borucki, hitting in each of his past five on the road and five of the past six starts overall. In this series, the under is 16-5-1 in the past 22 meetings at Oriole Park, and 36-16-1 in the past 53 overall in this series.

It's a battle of southpaws as Dodgers LHP Alex Wood and Rangers LHP Mike Minor square off at Globe Life Park in Arlington. The under has cashed in four straight starts by Wood, while the under is 5-1 in the past six road games for Los Angeles against a team with a losing home record. However, the over is 7-3 in their past 10 interleague road games against a left-handed stater and 6-2 in Wood's past eight road starts against a team with a losing overall mark. Betting On The Wind

Precipitation is not in the forecast at any of the Major League Baseball venues on Hump Day, so enjoy the weather-free day. There will be winds from 11-14 mph blowing left to right at Petco Park affecting the Mariners and Padres, however. The Marlins and Red Sox will also see a jetstream from 10-13 mph blowing out. The Dodgers and Rangers will experience winds from 11-14 mph blowing into the face of the batters.

      Thursday, Aug. 30

Indians RHP Mike Clevinger will host the Twins in the afternoon series finale. The under is 2-1-1 in his past four starts at home, including his last outing against the Twins back on Aug. 8 at Progressive Field. He allowed one earned run, five hits and one walks while striking out five over seven innings in that no-decision, a 5-2 win by the Tribe. The Twins counter with RHP Jake Odorizzi, and the under has connected in each of his past four outings, including that same Aug. 8 matchup with Clevinger in Cleveland. Odorizzi has allowed a total of just 23 earned runs over his past 49 innings across 10 starts.

White Sox RHP Lucas Giolito has a 5.85 ERA over all this season, but he has won 10 games and picked up the pace lately. The over has connected in each of his past three outings at home, and he has allowed 12 earned runs in just 9 1/3 innings across the past two. It might not get any easier against the first-place Red Sox on Thursday evening.

Padres LHP Clayton Richard will work against the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night at Petco Park. The over is an impressive 7-1 over his past eight starts, and 4-1 over his past five outings at home. The over is 1-0-1 in Richard's two starts this season against the Rockies.

      Friday, Aug. 31

The Yankees will use ace RHP Luis Severino in their series opener against the Tigers and Jordan Zimmermann. Surprisingly, the over is 9-2 in the past 11 starts by Severino, including 4-0 in his past four outings at Yankee Stadium. He faced the Tigers on June 4 in Detroit in a 7-4 win as the over also connected in that one. The over is also 5-0 in Severino's five outings against American League Central foes this season.

Marlins RHP Dan Straily will take the ball to face the Blue Jays in interleague action. Straily allowed just three hits and a walk with four strikeouts over six scoreless innings in a 1-0 win against the Braves in his most recent start at Marlins Park, and the under as cashed in each of his past two starts at home with three runs and seven hits allowed in 10 2/3 innings.

Mets RHP Zack Wheeler will face the Giants in late-night action. He has really worked down his ERA lately, cruising along with a 3.46 ERA through 153 1/3 innings. The under is 4-2 over his past six outings, including a strong outing on Aug. 20 against the Giants at Citi Field. • LEADING OFF: A's-Astros wrap series, Mets-Cubs finish up
          August 29, 2018

A look at what's happening around the majors Wednesday:

          HILL COUNTRY

The Athletics wrap up their series at Minute Maid Park, trailing the AL West-leading Astros by 1 1/2 games going into the finale. Trevor Cahill (5-3, 3.44 ERA) starts for Oakland, looking to rebound after allowing five runs in five innings against Minnesota in his last outing. Dallas Keuchel (10-10, 3.54) pitches for Houston.

          TAKE TWO

The Cubs will try to win their seventh in a row - and eighth, too - when they take on the Mets at Wrigley Field.

The teams were tied at 1 when their game Tuesday night was suspended in the top of the 10th inning because of rain. Michael Conforto had a 2-0 count leading off the inning when it was stopped. After they resume and finish, Cubs rookie Alec Mills will go for his first big league win when he faces Jason Vargas.

          LEFT(IES) FROM ATLANTA

Alex Wood and Mike Minors both made their big league debuts with the Braves, and were teammates together in Atlanta for two seasons. The lefties are now scheduled to face each other in Texas.

Minor (10-6) is 4-0 with a 2.73 ERA in his last five starts for the Rangers. Wood (7-6), who has been bothered with hamstring and adductor issues this season, got some extra time since his previous start for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Aug. 20.

Minor made his MLB debut with Atlanta in 2010, and Wood in 2013. They were then teammates through 2014 before Minor missed the entire 2015 season because of injury and Wood was traded midway through that season to Los Angeles.

          HEALING

Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius could begin running in his recovery from a bruised left heel. He took grounders hit right at him before Tuesday night's game. It remains to be seen whether he'll need a minor league rehab assignment before coming off the disabled list.

Thursday’s List of 13: Doing some thinking out loud…….

                13) If you’re watching HBO’s Hard Knocks, you hear Cleveland OC Todd Haley a lot, and since the Browns’ offense is struggling, Haley is often unhappy. Steelers-Browns in Week 1 has to be at least a little personal for Haley— he spent the last six years working for Pittsburgh, where he replaced Bruce Arians as offensive coordinator.

By the way, if I owned the Browns and my coaches told me that Tyrod Taylor was our starting QB, thats fine, but then he dislocated his left pinky vs Philly last week and they put him back in the game— who does that???? Its a damn exhibition game. I’d have some harsh questions for the head coach.

                12) By the way, Cleveland LB Michael Kendricks was charged Wednesday with insider trading by federal prosecutors; he made nearly $1.2M in illegal profits on four major investments four years ago. Kendricks spent the last six seasons with the Eagles; he could be facing “substantial prison time” if he is convicted.

Did the Browns know about this before they signed Kendricks? In any event, they released him Wednesday night. Chances are he’ll be in the next sequel they make to The Longest Yard.

                11) Most profitable starting pitchers this season (thru Tuesday’s games):
                1. Mike Fiers (17-8) $1,567
                2. David Price (19-6) $1,194
                3. Eduardo Rodriguez (16-3) $1,160
                4. Mike Leake (17-9) $1,156
                5. Jon Lester (20-7) $1,129
                6. Aaron Nola (19-8) $1,091

                10) How times have changed: in May of 1968, Catfish Hunter pitched a perfect game for the A’s, in their first month playing in Oakland. He also had three hits in the game (this was five years before the DH).

But there is no video of that game; it was against the Twins too- they had some really good hitters- Rod Carew, Harmon Killebrew, Tony Oliva batted 2-3-4 that night.

                9) Cincinnati Bengals gave two their best defensive players big contract extensions this week; Carlos Dunlap gets a 3-year, $45M extension and Geno Atkins gets $65.3M for four years. Bengals open the season in Indianapolis.

                8) From Ryan Spaeder: Cole Hamels is the first in-season acquisition in baseball history to allow one or no runs in each of his first six starts with his new team.

                7) Jared Goff and Carson Wentz will be the only Week 1 starting QB’s who didn’t take a snap in preseason, and it isn’t 100% that Wentz is starting in Week 1, as he recovers from his knee surgery. Goff is healthy.

                6) Aaron Rodgers signed a 4-year contract extension with Green Bay, with a lot of zeroes in it- he will be making $33.5M a year, or $33,500,000.

Packers then traded backup QB Brett Hundley to Seattle for a 2019 draft pick, which moves DeShone Kizer up to the #2 QB job in Green Bay.

No matter what, Russell Wilson and Rodgers better stay healthy.

                5) If you watch Phillies games on TV, Aaron Nola is the favorite to win the NL Cy Young award.

If you watch Nationals games on TV, Max Scherzer is the favorite to win the award.

If you watch Mets games on TV, Jacob deGrom is the favorite to win the award.

                You get the idea.

                4) MLB announced 2019 spring training schedules Wednesday; A’s-Mariners play on February 21, which is very early because they’re heading to Japan to play March 20-21.

                3) NFL announcers on CBS will not be mentioning pointspreads during games this season.

In semi-related news, Westgate Super Contest had its 2,000th entrant sign up Wednesday, and there are still 11 more days to enter. For a mere $1,500, you pick five NFL games a week against the spread- the winner will get over a million bucks.

                2) Astros put Charlie Morton (shoulder) on DL, so they’re down two starting pitchers, with Lance McCullers also on the shelf.

                1) Jets traded backup QB Teddy Bridgewater to New Orleans for a 3rd round draft pick, so the Saints now have Drew Brees’ successor on their roster.

                  • LEADING OFF: Price check for Red Sox, Pujols done for season
                    August 29, 2018

A look at what's happening around the majors Thursday:

                    PRICE CHECK

The major league-leading Red Sox hope for good news on David Price. The left-hander exited Wednesday night's start against Miami with a bruised left wrist after getting hit by a line drive. The team said X-rays were negative and further testing would be done as necessary. Price has been Boston's best pitcher since the All-Star break. ''I think it'll be all right,'' said Price, wearing a wrap and a brace on his wrist in the clubhouse. ''Been hit a couple of times this year. I knew it hit me flush and caught bone.''

                    PLAYOFF PREVIEW?

In a matchup of NL division leaders, Cubs left-hander Mike Montgomery (4-4, 3.62 ERA) is expected to come off the disabled list when Chicago visits Atlanta. Montgomery has been sidelined by shoulder inflammation. All-Star righty Mike Foltynewicz (10-8, 2.67) pitches for the Braves.

                    WILD NIGHTS

Seattle is chasing AL West rival Oakland for the league's second wild card, and the teams begin a four-game series at the Coliseum. Frankie Montas (5-3, 3.75 ERA) will be recalled from Triple-A Nashville to start for the Athletics. Montas allowed eight hits and three runs in 4 1/3 innings of a 3-2 loss to Colorado in his last big league start on July 29.

                    HISTORY ON HOLD

Albert Pujols is likely to miss the rest of his 18th major league season after undergoing surgery on his left knee. Pujols ranks sixth with 633 career homers after passing Ken Griffey Jr. last month. The Angels' slugger is seventh with 1,982 RBIs, just behind Lou Gehrig (1,995) and Barry Bonds (1,996), and close to becoming only the fifth member of the 2,000-RBI club.

                    LOOK TO THE WEST

Two left-handers are on the mound in Los Angeles when the Diamondbacks and Dodgers renew acquaintances. Robbie Ray (3-2) starts for Arizona against Rich Hill (6-4). The Diamondbacks, Rockies and Dodgers are locked in a tight race atop the NL West.

                    ARM AND HAMMER

Justin Verlander (13-8, 2.72 ERA) pitches for Houston at home in the opener of a four-game series against Mike Trout and the Angels. Verlander, who ranks second in the AL with 229 strikeouts, has won his last two starts to give him 201 career wins.

                    HAPP-Y DAYS

Veteran lefty J.A. Happ tries to stay perfect with the Yankees when New York opens a four-game set against Detroit. Happ is 5-0 with a 2.37 ERA in five starts since being acquired from the Blue Jays. Happ's career-best winning streak came in 2016 with the Blue Jays - a run he capped with a 6-0 victory over the Tigers.

                    RIGHT AT HOME

Left-hander Wade Miley tries to remain perfect at Great American Ball Park when he starts the Brewers' final game of a series against the Reds. He made his debut for Milwaukee on May 2 in Cincinnati and earned a 3-1 win. Miley is 4-0 in four career starts at Great American with a 2.51 ERA.

Hottest team: White Sox (7-3 last 10)

Yes, the White Sox are going nowhere towards the playoffs this season. However, Chicago is saving its best baseball for late in the season as the Sox are coming off five consecutive series victories. The latest series win was a solid performance by taking two of three from the Yankees in New York with both victories coming as a +200 underdog or higher. The worst part is in the lone loss, Chicago squandered a 4-0 lead and lost on a walk-off homer on Tuesday, which prevented the Sox from a season-high five-game winning streak.

The task doesn’t get easier as Chicago returns home tonight to battle Boston. Granted, the White Sox did grab two of three matchups at Fenway Park back in June, as Boston heads to Chicago trying to snap a four-game road losing streak. Since the All-Star break, Chicago has won seven of eight starts made by right-hander Lucas Giolito, while the right-hander is coming off three consecutive road wins in his past three outings.

Coldest team: Angels (2-9 last 11)

Both Western divisions in baseball are top-heavy this season as three teams have a shot to make the playoffs in the AL West and NL West. However, the Angels aren’t part of that mix as they have won only two of their last 11 games since sweeping the Padres in mid-August. In the last seven games, Los Angeles has picked up one victory against three potential playoff squads (Houston, Colorado, and Arizona), while veteran slugger Albert Pujols was lost for the season after undergoing knee surgery.

The Angels travel to the Lone Star State to face the Astros tonight for the start of a four-game set. Andrew Heaney hasn’t had much luck on the road for the Halos this season, as L.A. owns a 4-8 record in his 12 away starts, although the Halos are 3-1 in his past four road outings. The only good news for the Angels tonight is they face Justin Verlander, who is winless in his last four home assignments.

Hottest pitcher: J.A. Happ, Yankees (15-6, 3.80 ERA)

The Yankees acquired plenty of arms at the trade deadline to help themselves for a potential run in the playoffs. Happ won 10 starts as a member of the Blue Jays before getting dealt to New York, but the southpaw has been electric since his move to the Bronx by compiling a 5-0 record in five starts. In those five outings, Happ has allowed a total of eight earned runs, while four of those wins have come at Yankee Stadium. Happ will get the ball at home tonight as a heavy favorite against the Tigers, but Detroit got the best of Happ in two wins earlier this season when he pitched for Toronto.

Coldest pitcher: Joe Musgrove, Pirates (5-7, 3.56 ERA)

The former Astros’ hurler went through a stretch after the All-Star break by tossing at least seven innings in five of six starts. However, that streak came to an end when he lasted only four innings in an extra-innings loss to the Brewers last Friday. The Pirates have lost four of Musgrove’s last five starts, including three defeats by one run each. Musgrove faces the Cardinals tonight in a rubber match at Busch Stadium as the right-hander defeated St. Louis earlier this season at home by tossing seven scoreless innings in an 8-1 blowout.

Biggest OVER run: Red Sox (6-2-1 last nine)

Boston’s offense scored a total of two runs in the final two losses of a three-game sweep at Tampa Bay last weekend. The Red Sox rebounded in a huge way by crossing home plate 22 times in a two-game home sweep of the Marlins. Boston dropped an 11-spot in the seventh inning in last night’s 14-6 blowout of Miami, the 17th time this season the Red Sox have scored double-digit runs. The Red Sox travel to Chicago to face the streaking White Sox as Rick Porcello takes the mound for Boston. The UNDER has hit in three of Porcello’s last four road outings, while Porcello lost to the White Sox earlier this season as a -220 home favorite, 5-2.

Biggest UNDER run: Yankees (5-0 last five)

New York is coming off probably its worst home series of the season after losing two of three to the White Sox in the Bronx. For the exception of a late rally in Tuesday’s walk-off win, the Yankees produced three runs in the two losses, which is in stark contrast to scoring 27 runs in last weekend’s four-game sweep of the Orioles. The Yankees draw another below .500 squad tonight as the Tigers invade the Bronx looking to snap a five-game skid. Detroit has scored two runs or less in four straight games, while New York’s offense could wake up as Tigers’ pitching has given up at least six runs in five consecutive contests.

Matchup to watch: Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers

One game separates the top three teams in the NL West with two days remaining in August. Arizona and Los Angeles are both coming off road wins last night as the two squads start a crucial four-game series at Dodger Stadium tonight. The D-backs remained in first place by edging the Giants, 3-1, while the Dodgers held off the Rangers in Arlington to pick up their second consecutive sweep.

Robbie Ray takes the ball in the opener for Arizona as the southpaw has amazingly picked up a no-decision in seven consecutive starts. The D-backs are 2-8 in Ray’s last 10 starts dating back to the start of July, while not lasting past the sixth inning nine times in this stretch. Ray has not faced the Dodgers this season, but Arizona won four of his six starts against Los Angeles in 2017, including two victories at Chavez Ravine.

Rich Hill counters for the Dodgers, as the southpaw tossed six scoreless innings against the Padres his last time out in an 11-1 home blowout. Los Angeles has compiled a 5-2 record in Hill’s seven starts since the All-Star break, but Hill has been torched by Arizona in two outings this season by allowing 14 hits and 12 earned runs in nine innings of work. The D-backs have won five of the last nine matchups with the Dodgers, as these teams meet for one more series in Phoenix in late September.

                            Betcha didn’t know:
The Athletics have won seven of their last nine home series openers as they welcome in the Mariners tonight. Oakland dropped two of three to Houston and face a Seattle squad mired in a mini slump after getting swept at San Diego in a two-game series. Mariners’ starter Wade LeBlanc was money in the bank at home until losing his last two starts at Safeco, but Seattle has won each of LeBlanc’s last three starts on the highway.

                            Biggest public favorite:
                            Yankees (-300) vs. Tigers

                            Biggest public underdog:
                            Cubs (+114) at Braves

                            Biggest line move:
Pirates (+115 to +100) at Cardinals
