CHICAGO (AP) Jose Ramirez hit two more homers, Austin Jackson also connected and the Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago White Sox 9-4 on Tuesday night for their 13th straight victory, the longest run by a major league team this season.

Danny Salazar got just two outs in his return from right elbow inflammation, but Cleveland's deep bullpen took over from there. Seven relievers combined for 8 1/3 scoreless innings as the Indians moved within one of their franchise-record 14-game win streak last year.

Jackson and Ramirez hit back-to-back homers during a three-run first against David Holmberg (2-4). Ramirez added another solo shot in the second, and the AL Central leaders went ahead to stay on Greg Allen's tiebreaking, two-run double in the third. Yan Gomes tacked on a three-run shot in the ninth.

Ramirez has five homers in his last three games. He is batting .500 (17 for 34) with seven homers and nine RBIs on Cleveland's 11-game road trip.

Matt Davidson hit a three-run drive for last-place Chicago, which has dropped six of eight. Top prospect Yoan Moncada went 1 for 5 in his return from a bruised right shin.

When the White Sox led 4-3 in the first, it was the first time the Indians had trailed since they were down by one against the Yankees on Aug. 28.

Dan Otero (3-0) pitched two scoreless innings for the win.

PIRATES 4, CUBS 3

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Max Moroff and David Freese each hit an RBI single off Carl Edwards Jr. in the eighth inning as Pittsburgh rallied past Chicago.

Pinch-hitter John Jaso led off the eighth with a walk and scored when Moroff hit a bloop single off Edwards (3-4) to tie the game. Freese drove home Moroff three batters later after the Cubs intentionally walked rookie Josh Bell.

Jordan Luplow hit the second home run of his career for Pittsburgh. Wade LeBlanc (5-2) earned the win in relief. Felipe Rivero worked a perfect ninth for his 18th save. The Pirates ran their winning streak to four on the same day the club announced contract extensions for manager Clint Hurdle and general manager Neal Huntington.

Chicago, which leads the NL Central, has dropped three straight.

REDS 9, BREWERS 3

CINCINNATI (AP) - Robert Stephenson escaped threats while pitching into the seventh, and Scooter Gennett hit a three-run homer during Cincinnati's five-run rally in the bottom of the inning against Milwaukee.

The last-place Reds have taken the first two games in the series from Milwaukee, which is trying to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2011. The Brewers remained 3+ games behind Chicago in the NL Central. They also trail Arizona and Colorado in the wild-card race.

Stephenson (4-4) wriggled out of a bases-loaded, none-out threat in the fourth inning, fanning the next three. The Reds turned three double plays behind the rookie to scuttle rallies.

Raisel Iglesias got six outs for his 25th save in 26 chances.

Zach Davies (16-8) allowed two runs - one earned - in 5 2/3 innings. He dropped to 8-2 in 15 road starts.

NATIONALS 2, MARLINS 1

MIAMI (AP) - Stephen Strasburg pitched six solid innings to help Washington edge Miami.

Daniel Murphy hit his 22nd homer and Pedro Severino also drove in a run for the Nationals, who have won seven straight against the Marlins.

Sean Doolittle worked the ninth for his 18th save in 19 chances. Doolittle allowed a bloop single to Marcell Ozuna, who scored on a sacrifice fly by Derek Dietrich, but got Brian Anderson to line out to end the game.

Strasburg (12-4) gave up a single in each of his six innings, but was able to keep the Marlins from getting into scoring position. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter, lowering his ERA to 2.78.

Miami slugger Giancarlo Stanton went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts and did not add to his home run total of 53, but did take a home run away from Murphy when he leaped above the right-center field wall to make a catch in the third.

Odrisamer Despaigne (0-3) permitted one run and five hits in seven innings.

The Marlins have lost eight of nine.

RAYS 2, TWINS 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Jake Odorizzi took a no-hitter into the seventh inning in front of a tiny home crowd, and Tampa Bay topped Minnesota.

Lucas Duda homered off Bartolo Colon (6-11) and hit an RBI double for the Rays (70-70), who moved within two games of Minnesota for the second AL wild card.

Joe Mauer got the Twins' first hit - and extended his hitting streak to 14 games - with a grounder that caromed off second base with one out in the seventh. Odorizzi (8-7) was lifted for reliever Dan Jennings after striking out the next batter.

The only other hitter to reach base against Odorizzi was Eddie Rosario, who walked leading off the fifth.

The announced attendance of 6,509 was the smallest ever for a Rays home game.

Robbie Grossman homered in the ninth off Alex Colome, who earned his AL-leading 42nd save in 47 opportunities.

ROCKIES 9, GIANTS 6

DENVER (AP) - Trevor Story homered and Colorado beat San Francisco for its 10th straight win over the Giants at Coors Field.

The Rockies held off a late rally by San Francisco to increase their lead to 2 1/2 games over Milwaukee for the second NL wild card. Nolan Arenado doubled in a four-run sixth for his 112th RBI, tying Miami slugger Giancarlo Stanton for most in the majors.

After spot starter Tyler Chatwood lasted three innings, Colorado used eight relievers. Chris Rusin (4-0) earned the win and Greg Holland pitched a perfect ninth for his 37th save.

Denver native Ty Blach (8-12) allowed five runs over 5 1/3 innings for the Giants on the anniversary of his big league debut at Coors Field.

Joe Panik had four hits for San Francisco. Pablo Sandoval went 0 for 4 and is hitless in his last 37 at-bats.

TIGERS 13, ROYALS 2

DETROIT (AP) - JaCoby Jones and John Hicks each hit two of Detroit's six homers in a rout of Kansas City.

Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez threw only five pitches and was knocked out of the game in the first inning after getting hit in the right leg by Whit Merrifield's single. Sanchez exited with a bruised calf.

Myles Jaye (1-0) replaced Sanchez and pitched 2 1/3 innings for the win.

Jason Vargas (14-10) allowed seven earned runs and six hits in two innings.

Mikie Mahtook and Jose Iglesias also homered for the Tigers.

PHILLIES 9, METS 1

NEW YORK (AP) - Ben Lively homered and drove in four runs off Mets ace Jacob deGrom, and also pitched seven strong innings to lead Philadelphia over New York.

A day after falling behind the Mets 10-0 by the fourth inning, it was the Phillies' turn to answer back.

DeGrom (14-9) struck out the side in the first, but wound up allowing a career-worst nine runs - six earned - and 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Lively (3-5) hit a two-run single in the second that made it 3-1. The rookie, who homered in his last start against Miami, hit a two-run drive in a six-run fourth.

Lively is 6 for 21 (.286) with two home runs and eight RBIs in his first major league season.

Odubel Herrera extended his hitting streak to 19 games and Nick Williams drove in three runs for Philadelphia. Highly touted Phillies prospect J.P. Crawford got a hit in his first big league game.

MLB notebook: Red Sox, Yankees accuse each other of sign stealing

The rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees is taking another twist with each team accusing the other of using technology to steal signs during games.

The Red Sox admitted to the commissioner's office that their trainers had received signals from video replay personnel and then relayed that information to some players, according to a report in the New York Times.

Major League Baseball was alerted to the scheme, which included a trainer in the dugout looking down at his Apple Watch and relaying a signal to players, who may have used the information to determine the type of pitch being thrown, by the Yankees. New York general manager Brian Cashman filed a complaint with the commissioner's office including video shot of the Boston dugout.

"Aware of the rule. Electronic devices are not to be used in the dugout, but beyond that the only thing I can say it's a league matter at this point," Red Sox manager John Farrell said.

--Tampa Bay Rays ace Chris Archer will play catch after it was determined he has no structural damage in his pitching arm.

The right-hander was found to have forearm tightness by a team surgeon during Monday's examination.

Archer threw just eight pitches before leaving last Saturday's start against the Chicago White Sox. His departure came after he allowed back-to-back homers.

The two-time All-Star is unlikely to make his scheduled start on Friday against the Boston Red Sox. Doctors will re-examine his arm after he plays catch.

--The St. Louis Cardinals recalled infielder Breyvic Valera from Triple-A Memphis, the team announced.

Valera is expected to join the club prior to Tuesday's game against the San Diego Padres.

The 25-year-old Venezuelan has played in 800 career minor league games over eight seasons.

--Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Neal Huntington and manager Clint Hurdle received four-year contract extensions from the club through the 2021 season, the team announced.

Financial terms were not disclosed by the organization.

"I am extremely pleased to be able to announce that Neal and Clint will continue to be Pirates for at least the next four years. Both men are selfless leaders who have made us a far stronger organization, both on and off the field," Pirates president Frank Coonelly said.

--The Chicago White Sox requested waivers on disappointing left-hander Derek Holland for the purpose of granting him his unconditional release.

The 30-year-old Holland is just 7-14 with a 6.20 ERA in 29 appearances (26 starts) this season.

Holland posted a 2.37 ERA through his first 10 starts of the season before falling on hard times.

--The Minnesota Twins activated outfielder Robbie Grossman from the 10-day disabled list.

The Twins, who currently occupy the second wild-card spot in the American League, spent the last 18 games without Grossman after he suffered a fractured left thumb. The 27-year-old is batting .243 with seven home runs and 35 RBIs in 98 games for Minnesota.

The Twins also selected the contract of right-hander Michael Tonkin from Triple-A Rochester, moved right-hander J.T. Chargois (elbow) to the 60-day disabled list and activated left-hander Dietrich Enns (shoulder) from the 10-day DL before optioning him to Double-A Chattanooga.

--The Boston Red Sox activated right-hander Carson Smith from the 60-day disabled list and designated right-hander Kyle Martin for assignment.

Smith underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2016 and is back after making 11 rehab appearances for Triple-A Pawtucket and Double-A Portland. The 27-year-old was acquired from the Seattle Mariners on Dec. 15, 2015, and made only three appearances for Boston in 2016 before going down.

Smith is 3-5 with a 2.00 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 82 career major league games.

--The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled outfielders Joc Pederson and Trayce Thompson from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Pederson, a former All-Star, was sent down last month and appeared in 14 games for Oklahoma City. The 25-year-old is batting .215 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs in 87 games with Los Angeles this season.

Thompson, 26, appeared in 19 games over two stints with the Dodgers earlier this season, batting .116 with one home run. He owns 19 home runs in 143 career games over three seasons with Los Angeles.

CLEVELAND CLICKS

The Indians try for their 14th straight victory, which would tie the record for longest winning streak in team history. Carlos Carrasco (13-6, 3.67 ERA) starts for Cleveland on the road against the Chicago White Sox. The AL Central leaders already own the top winning string in the majors this year.

STORM PLAN

With Hurricane Irma bearing down on South Florida, the Miami Marlins are allowing families of players and staff to travel with the team on its upcoming road trip. After hosting Washington, the Marlins leave on a seven-game swing to Atlanta and Philadelphia.

''If you had your kids here and you're leaving on a trip, it's not the best feeling to leave your family somewhere,'' manager Don Mattingly said.

PENALTY PENDING?

Major League Baseball is looking into allegations levied by the New York Yankees that Boston used a high-tech scheme to steal signs from their catchers. Commissioner Rob Manfred says he wants to get the matter resolved quickly. In the meantime, there's sure to be plenty of debate over what the penalty should be if the first-place Red Sox are found guilty - a fine, a draft pick, forfeiture of wins?

Cubs lefty Jose Quintana tries to beat Pittsburgh for the second time in a week when he starts at PNC Park. He pitched six innings last Wednesday as the NL Central leaders topped the Pirates at Wrigley Field. Quintana is 5-3 with a 4.50 ERA since being acquired from the White Sox.

HE'S HERE

Braves lefty Luiz Gohara makes his major league debut, starting the opener of a day-night doubleheader against Texas at SunTrust Park. The 21-year-old Brazilian began the season in Class A. The hard-throwing Gohara also pitched at Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett this year, going a combined 7-4 with a 2.62 ERA before getting the call to the majors.

13) From the New York Times:

“Investigators for Major League Baseball have determined that the Boston Red Sox, who are in first place in the American League East and likely headed to the playoffs, executed a scheme to illicitly steal hand signals from opponents’ catchers in games against the second-place Yankees and other teams, according to several people briefed on the matter.”

So the Patriots and now the Red Sox are cheaters? Terrific…….

Red Sox, by the way, are claiming that their rivals from New York are doing the same thing as far as stealing signals go. The A’s? Our guys can’t afford Apple watches.

12) Tennessee 42, Georgia Tech 41 OT— Great ballgame; has a team ever rushed for 535 yards and lost? Tech went for 2 points and the win in the second OT— I HATE THIS STRATEGY. Here is why I hate this strategy:

— Tennessee was favored; all the pressure to win was on them.
— Georgia Tech has the better QB; the longer you play, the better off you are.
— It is free TV exposure (for recruiting purposes)!!!!! There was nothing else on TV.
— To me, there is no point in putting the whole game on your offense’s shoulders. Your team played a great game— now they feel like they screwed the game up.
— If you had Tennessee -4 (I did not), you also hate this strategy, because it cost you any chance to win your wager, but that really isn’t relevant, unless you gave the four points.

Terrific ballgame; great fun to watch. But the better team lost this game.

11) Georgia Tech ran the ball for 535 yards; they ran 96 plays, Tennessee 59. It’ll be a long time before another team runs the ball for 535 yards and loses.

10) Umpire Will Little guided the Bronx Bombers to victory again Monday; last 3 years, New York is now 7-0 with Little behind plate, allowing 17 runs in the seven games.

9) If you had Texas A&M on the moneyline Sunday night, you feel as if God hates you, since the Aggies led 44-10 in the third quarter- they lost 45-44 at UCLA.

8) Random stat: Since beginning of the 2015 season, ACC teams are 15-11 vs spread when playing an SEC opponent.

7) Now that Deondre Francois is out of this season, it will be interesting to see if Florida State has any WR’s/RB’s who were high school QB’s who could run a Wildcat-type offense in the red zone. With a totally inexperienced freshman QB at the helm now, a more mobile QB near the goal line could be a big help for the Seminoles. We’ll see how creative Jimbo Fisher gets.

6) More than 20,000 acres of Oregon’s landscape is currently on fire; it is also unseasonably warm in Oregon— those two things have poisoned the air around Eugene, forcing the Oregon Ducks to move their practices closer to the Pacific Coast. Ducks play Nebraska Saturday.

5) Only 18 players have hit four home runs in a major league game, making JD Martinez’ feat against the Dodgers Monday even more impressive.

4) JJ Watt has now raised over $20 million to help the people in Texas. His original goal was $200,000. Amazing.

3) I have to laugh when Dodger fans or Red Sox fans go into a panic when their team loses 2 or 3 games in a row; I root for the Oakland A’s, who were eliminated from the pennant race the day after I got my income tax return, and I file my return early.

2) Former New Mexico coach Mike Locksley’s 25-year old son Meiko died Sunday night after he was shot in Columbia, MD. Mike Locksley is now WR coach/co-offensive coordinator at Alabama. Very sad thing; our thoughts/prayers go out to the family.

1) What happens if some of these 800,000 “dreamers” are carrying a gun in Iraq or driving a tank in Afghanistan? Will they be kicked out of the military in six months? These people are protecting American interests, if not America itself.

At some point, hopefully common sense and common decency will win out here.

Hottest team: Indians (13-0 last 13) at White Sox

The last time Cleveland lost a game, it came on August 23 at home to Boston. Since that defeat, the Indians have run off 13 straight wins, including sweeps over the Royals, Yankees, and Tigers. Cleveland is halfway to another sweep after capturing the first two games at Chicago, capped off by a 9-4 triumph over the White Sox on Tuesday. The Tribe extended its streak to 12 consecutive contests in which their pitching staff has allowed four runs or fewer, while picking up its fifth straight win on the run-line.

Cleveland will be another heavy favorite on Wednesday as Carlos Carrasco heads to the mound. Carrasco has struck out eight batters in each of his past two starts, while going seven innings each time. The Indians are 3-0 in Carrasco’s last three road appearances, while Cleveland owns a perfect 3-0 record in his three starts against Chicago this season.

Coldest team: Marlins (1-8 last nine) vs. Nationals

Miami’s playoff hopes are diminishing by the day as the Marlins have slipped to 67-71 following a 2-1 defeat to the Nationals on Tuesday. The offense has sunk recently by scoring two runs or fewer in seven of the past nine contests, while posting an 0-5 record in this span against Washington. Prior to this skid, Miami compiled a 66-63 record, while sitting 4 ½ games behind Colorado for the second Wild Card spot. Now, the Marlins are seven games behind the Rockies with 24 games remaining in the season.

The Fish look to avoid the sweep as left-hander Dillon Peters takes the hill in the series finale. Although Peters picked up a no-decision in his debut against the Phillies, he tossed seven scoreless innings and scattered three hits in a 2-1 defeat.

Hottest pitcher: Kevin Gausman, Orioles (10-9, 4.79 ERA)

For the second time this season, Gausman has posted consecutive scoreless outings, as the Orioles blanked the Red Sox and Blue Jays in his past two starts. Gausman tossed six innings in a 1-0 win in 13 innings against Toronto his last time out, as Baltimore improved to 3-5 in his past eight starts at Camden Yards. The Orioles have won each of Gausman’s two home outings against the Yankees this season, including a 10-4 victory on May 31.

Coldest pitcher: Dinelson Lamet, Padres (7-6, 4.40 ERA)

Lamet has actually pitched recently, although he resides in this category due to San Diego’s 1-4 record in his past five starts. The right-hander is coming off a 10-strikeout performance opposite Clayton Kershaw in a 1-0 defeat to the Dodgers, while allowing one earned run in his second straight outing. The Padres have plated only two runs in his previous three starts, while going winless in Lamet’s past two outings at Petco Park.

Biggest OVER run: Mets (9-2 last 11)

Although New York scored only one run on Tuesday in a blowout loss to Philadelphia, the Mets cashed their third straight OVER. During this stretch, the results have been mixed as the offense has plated six runs or more four times, but the pitching staff has allowed seven runs or more in five of the past six contests.

Biggest UNDER run: Pirates (7-3 last 10)

Even though Pittsburgh isn’t headed to the postseason, its pitching has stepped up of late by allowing four runs during its current four-game winning streak. Following a 12-0 shutout of the Cubs on Monday, the Pirates edged the defending champions on Tuesday, 4-3 to record its fifth UNDER in the last seven games at PNC Park. Ace Gerrit Cole will look to keep Pittsburgh’s sharp pitching going in Game 3 of this series as the right-hander has hit the OVER in four of his past five starts. Cole has performed well against the Cubs this season by allowing three runs in 13 innings of work, while finishing UNDER the total in two starts.

Matchup to watch: Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers

Behind Cleveland’s 13-game hot streak is Arizona’s 12-game winning streak after the D-backs knocked off the Dodgers in extra innings on Tuesday, 3-1. Arizona is closing in on hosting the Wild Card game in early October following this tremendous run, but it will not be enough to catch Los Angeles. The D-backs trail the Dodgers by 11 ½ games in the NL West, even though Arizona has trimmed off nine games over the last 10 days.

The Dodgers are melting down at the wrong time by losing nine of their past 10 games, as Kenta Maeda heads to the mound. Maeda was racked by Arizona the last time he faced them on August 31, allowing seven earned runs in three innings of an 8-1 defeat. However, Maeda is a different pitcher at Chavez Ravine by owning an 8-1 record at home, while Los Angeles is 9-0 in his past nine starts at Dodger Stadium.

Taijuan Walker looks to keep this streak going for Arizona, coming off a 10-strikeout performance in a 9-5 victory at Colorado in his previous outing. The D-backs are 3-0 in Walker’s last three starts, while Arizona has beaten Los Angeles twice as an underdog this season when the right-hander takes the hill. The Snakes have won four of their past six road series finales, while running off nine straight wins in the underdog role.

Betcha didn’t know: The Blue Jays couldn’t hold onto a 2-0 ninth inning lead over the Red Sox on Tuesday as Toronto basically needed to play an extra game – and lost. Boston rallied for two ninth inning runs and eventually beat Toronto, 3-2 in 19 innings as the Sox used 12 pitchers. Toronto hasn’t fared well in the final game of an away series recently by going 2-6 in the last eight opportunities.

CHICAGO (AP) Carlos Carrasco allowed three hits in a complete game, giving the Cleveland Indians their 14th straight win in a 5-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night.

Cleveland equaled its longest winning streak in franchise history and also won its 10th straight road game as the right-hander lost his shutout with two outs in the ninth inning when Adam Engel homered.

Carrasco (14-6) faced 28 batters and threw 97 pitches in his eighth career complete game, throwing 76 strikes.

Carlos Santana hit a two-run home run as Cleveland added three runs in the eighth inning to break open a 1-0 game.

After not allowing a hit through four innings, the White Sox had leadoff singles in the fifth and sixth innings off Carrasco, but Avisail Garcia and Kevan Smith were both doubled off on the next at-bat.

CUBS 1, PIRATES 0

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Alex Avila knocked an RBI triple in the ninth inning, capping a duel between Jose Quintana and Gerrit Cole and lifting Chicago over Pittsburgh.

After Cole limited Chicago to two hits over eight innings, Avila scored pinch-runner Leonys Martin from second base with a drive to the right-field corner off reliever Daniel Hudson (2-6).

The only hits against Cole were Javier Baez's infield single in the second and John Jay's single in the eighth.

Wade Davis struck out two during a perfect ninth for his 29th save, preserving a win for Pedro Strop (4-4).

RED SOX 6, BLUE JAYS 1

BOSTON (AP) - Doug Fister gave up one run over seven innings, Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs and Boston beat Toronto a day after the teams played a 19-inning marathon.

It was the second straight win for the AL East-leading Red Sox, who moved four games ahead of the second-place Yankees. New York's game at Baltimore was rained out.

Playing just 18 hours after completing a victory that lasted six hours and ended on Hanley Ramirez's bloop single, the Red Sox took charge with a four-run fourth that was capped by Bradley's homer.

Fister (5-7) allowed four hits, struck out nine and walked three, improving to 3-1 in his last four starts with a 1.50 ERA.

Joe Biagini (3-10) was tagged for five runs in 3 1/3 innings.

TWINS 10, RAYS 6

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Eduardo Escobar had three hits and three RBIs, Brian Dozier and Ehire Adrianza both homered and Minnesota beat Tampa Bay.

Minnesota ended a three-game skid streak and moved a half-game ahead of the Los Angeles Angels for the second AL wild-card spot.

The Twins scored three runs in the seventh to take the lead for good. Dozier, who hit his 29th homer leading off the game, was walked by reliever Steve Cishek (2-1) to open the inning. Jorge Polanco then bunted and Cishek threw wildly past first base, allowing Dozier to come all the way around to score for a 7-6 lead with Polanco advancing to third.

One out later, Escobar singled to right-center to drive in Polanco. Robbie Grossman doubled off Austin Pruitt and pinch-hitter Joe Mauer was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Max Kepler followed with a run-scoring grounder.

Taylor Rogers (6-3) pitched 1 1/3 innings for the win.

NATIONALS 8, MARLINS 1

MIAMI (AP) - Gio Gonzalez and four relievers combined on a six-hitter, and Washington beat Miami for the eighth consecutive time.

Gonzalez (14-6) pitched five scoreless innings but needed 101 pitches. Ryan Zimmerman hit his 31st homer, and Michael A. Taylor added his 14th.

The Nationals, who completed a three-game sweep, have outscored Miami 53-12 in their past eight meetings. Washington increased its lead in the NL East to 18 games over second-place Miami.

The Marlins have lost nine of their past 10 to fade from the NL wild-card race. Announced attendance was 14,390, smallest of the year for the second night in a row at Marlins Park. With South Florida bracing for Hurricane Irma, a head count at first pitch put the actual crowd size at 799.

Dillon Peters (0-1) gave up three runs in five innings.

RANGERS 12, BRAVES 8, 1st game

ATLANTA (AP) - Freddie Freeman hit a two-run double during Atlanta's five-run second inning against Cole Hamels and the Braves held off a rally to beat Texas and split a doubleheader Wednesday night.

Nomar Mazara had a two-run homer in the nightcap for Texas, which won the first game behind four hits from Elvis Andrus.

The Rangers are two games behind the Twins in the race for the second AL wild card.

Julio Teheran (10-11) earned his second straight home win, allowing three runs, five walks and five hits in five innings in Game 2.

Hamels (9-3) gave up five runs, four earned, in six innings. After facing 10 batters in the second, he allowed only one hit over his next four innings.

Arodys Vizcaino gave up two-out singles to Jared Hoying and Carlos Gomez in the ninth. Vizcaino ended the game on Joey Gallo's fly ball to center for his 10th save.

Luiz Gohara (0-1), a 21-year-old native of Brazil, allowed six runs in four innings in his major league debut for Atlanta in the first game. Austin Bibens-Dirkx (5-2) threw three scoreless innings in relief for Texas.

ROYALS 13, TIGERS 2

DETROIT (AP) - Salvador Perez homered twice as Kansas City broke open a close game to rout Detroit.

The Royals snapped a 2-2 tie with four runs in the seventh, then scored seven in the eighth. Perez drove in three runs, while Whit Merrifield had three doubles and three RBIs. Alcides Escobar had four hits, falling a homer short of the cycle.

Jason Hammel (8-10) got the win, giving up two runs, nine hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out six while winning for the third time in four starts.

Tigers starter Matthew Boyd (5-9) pitched six-plus innings, allowing four runs, seven hits and two walks while striking out four.

ATHLETICS 3, ANGELS 1

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Sean Manaea pitched six-plus innings of shutout ball and Khris Davis homered as Oakland snapped a season-high eight-game losing streak.

The Angels, locked in a tight wild-card race, were trying for their seventh series sweep and second against the A's this year. Los Angeles is among five teams competing for two wild-card berths that were separated by four games entering the day.

Manaea (10-9) struck out six and allowed five hits and three walks.

Davis hit an opposite field shot to right off starter Tyler Skaggs (1-5) leading off the bottom of the fourth. His 39th home run broke a scoreless tie.

Home plate umpire Mike Everitt ejected A's third baseman Matt Chapman after an exchange between Chapman and Angels catcher Juan Graterol in the bottom of the fourth inning triggered by allegations of stealing signs.

Chapman said the Angels catcher was staring down A's hitters in an effort to intimidate them.

METS 6, PHILLIES 3, 6 innings

NEW YORK (AP) - Robert Gsellman pitched well in a winning return from the minors and Travis d'Arnaud homered to help New York beat Philadelphia in a game shortened to six innings because of rain.

Asdrubal Cabrera went 3 for 3 with an RBI single and scored twice as the Mets improved to 37-17 against Philadelphia over the past three years.

Nick Williams hit a two-run homer and Cesar Hernandez was 3 for 3 with an RBI double for the Phillies, who trailed 6-0 before scoring three in the sixth off Gsellman (6-6) following Cabrera's throwing error at third base. But any hopes of completing the comeback were washed away when the game was called after a 57-minute delay with one out in the bottom half.

Rookie Nick Pivetta (5-10) gave up six runs and 10 hits in five innings.

REDS 7, BREWERS 1

CINCINNATI (AP) - Rookie Luis Castillo struck out 10 in his final start of the season, Zack Cozart and Jose Peraza homered and last-place Cincinnati completed a three-game sweep of Milwaukee.

The playoff-contending Brewers have lost four of five. Neil Walker's homer in the first inning was all Milwaukee could muster.

Castillo (3-7) retired 11 straight batters in one stretch and 22 of the last 24 while pitching eight innings. He allowed four hits, didn't walk anybody and wound up with a 3.12 ERA in 15 starts.

The Reds are shutting down Castillo to limit his innings. The 24-year-old righty threw 111 pitches, matching his second-highest pitch count of the season, in this start.

Matt Garza (6-9) gave up five runs in 2 2/3 innings.

MLB notebook: Reds' Hamilton fractures left thumb

Cincinnati Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton left Wednesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers in the third inning with a fractured left thumb.

Hamilton, who leads the majors with 58 stolen bases, sustained the injury on a bunt attempt in the first inning but finished the at-bat and was replaced in the third. An MRI confirmed the fracture.

"He'll be in a splint for 10 days, and then we'll reassess," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "This is not necessarily a season-ending injury. It's not something that will sit in a cast for four-to-six weeks to heal. It will be about 10 days, and we'll be able to get the splint off and reassess."

--The St. Louis Cardinals acquired right-handed reliever Juan Nicasio from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for minor league infielder Eliezer Alvarez.

Nicasio, 31, joined the Phillies on Aug. 31 on a waiver claim from the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Dominican native has combined to go 3-5 with a 2.79 ERA in a National League-leading 67 games between Pittsburgh (65 games) and Philadelphia (two games) in 2017.

Nicasio has 61 strikeouts in his 61 1/3 innings of work this season, with 18 walks and just four home runs allowed while holding the opposition to .218 batting average. His 21 holds rank tied for fifth in the NL.

--The New York Yankees placed right-hander Adam Warren on the 10-day disabled list with a lower back spasm.

The move is retroactive to Sunday and robs the Yankees of a key bullpen piece as they attempt to catch the Boston Red Sox in the American League East.

Warren, 30, is 3-2 with a 2.40 ERA but allowed at least one run in four of his last five appearances. His role had increased of late with New York shuffling the bullpen order by removing Aroldis Chapman from the closer spot.

Warren's 0.89 WHIP this season is the best mark of his seven-year career.

--The Chicago White Sox reinstated infielder/outfielder Nicky Delmonico from the 10-day disabled list.

Delmonico has been out since suffering a sprained right wrist on Aug. 25. The 25-year-old rookie set a club record by reaching base safely in each of his first 13 games earlier this season and is batting .307 with six home runs and 12 RBIs.

Delmonico reached base safely in 21 of his 22 games with Chicago and owns a .429 on-base percentage with 15 walks.

STILL STREAKING

The Indians try for a franchise-record 15th straight victory when ace Corey Kluber takes on the Chicago White Sox. Cleveland won on Wednesday night behind a gem from Carlos Carrasco, matching its longest winning streak ever and also taking its 10th straight on the road. Kluber (14-4, 2.56 ERA) has allowed two or fewer runs in four straight starts and is 6-1 over his past seven outings. Left-hander Carlos Rodon (2-5, 4.15) is up for Chicago.

CAMDEN CURSE

The Yankees have lost 11 straight series at Baltimore since 2013. They could've ended that slide Tuesday night, but lost on Manny Machado's two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth off Dellin Betances. The teams were rained out Wednesday night, and the rubber game was rescheduled for a day later. New York is 10-25 at Camden Yards since the start of the 2014 season and has lost all seven games that would have clinched a series win over the Orioles.

TREATMENT TIME

Angels star Albert Pujols missed the series finale in Oakland and went back to Los Angeles for treatment on his knee, which he injured in a slide last weekend. Pujols (.244, 21 homers, 93 RBIs) is expected to rejoin the playoff-contending Angels on Friday in Seattle.

HEALTH WATCH

Two big-name Mets pitchers are on the mound - one in Queens, the other in Brooklyn - with an eye toward regaining their All-Star form next season. Matt Harvey (4-4, 5.97) starts at Citi Field against the Reds, his second outing since returning from a mid-June shoulder injury. The former ace was tagged for seven runs and eight hits in two innings Saturday at Houston, the shortest start of his career. New York teammate Noah Syndergaard makes a rehab start for Class A Brooklyn against the Staten Island Yankees. Syndergaard has been out since May 1 with a torn lat muscle but is expected back before the season ends.

IRMA IMPACT

The Rays will travel to Boston, about two days before Hurricane Irma is expected to impact the Tampa Bay area. After a weekend series at Fenway Park, the Rays are scheduled to play the Yankees on Monday night at Tropicana Field.

''Obviously we're watching the news like everybody else but it seems to be unpredictable,'' manager Kevin Cash said. ''We'll kind of go along with what MLB and our front office goes with. We'll make adjustments on the fly. It's really out of our hands.''

Thursday’s List of 13: Doing some thinking out loud……

13) Mets’ game Tuesday night was so terrible that their three TV guys spent the last half of the game going thru a bunch of 40-year old baseball cards they had in the booth. Seriously.

Names like John Wockenfuss, Frank Tanana, Paul Casanova came up and then Keith Hernandez or Ron Darling would tell a story about playing against them. It was oddly entertaining.

12) If I had to pick a random person I’d like to meet/talk to someday, it would be Bill James, the Sabermetrics guy. 35 years ago I found one of his books in a bookstore and was hooked; we share a love for statistics and his writing is terrific. It is amazing that a guy who was once a night watchman in a pork and beans factory has had so much influence on the sports world.

11) Baseball is cool because odd stuff happens; Boston reliever Carson Smith made his first appearance after missing 16 months (Tommy John surgery) Tuesday— he came in the game in the 18th inning. His first pitch was a close pitch to Josh Donaldson, called a strike.

Donaldson flips out on the umpire, gets tossed, so after Smith has thrown his first pitch in 16 months, he is facing his second hitter in the same at-bat. Unusual.

10) Cleveland Indians are on fire, winning 14 games in a row, which begs the question: Why did the Red Sox ever fire Terry Francona?

Francona managed the Red Sox for eight glorious years, all winning seasons, two of them world championship seasons— only once did his Sox win less than 89 games (86-76 in ’06). He ended the Curse of the Bambino, then won another title three years later.

He is 434-350 in Cleveland, with five winning seasons; he came within one inning of a world title with the Indians last season. A Hall of Fame manager, for sure.

9) Red Sox, by the way, are 12-3 in extra inning games this season.

8) Angels have gotten a save from six different pitchers in their last 24 games, which has to be some kind of a record.

7) Marlins Park in Miami is five years old; there was interesting stuff posted on the Interweb today about how with Hurricane Irma approaching, Marlins Park was designed to survive a hurricane, partially by leaving the roof open in three different areas, to allow air pressure to enter and then leave the stadium.

Hopefully the storm will lose a lot of its steam and everyone in the storm’s path will be safe.

6) NHL’s Florida Panthers are taking 90 players/employees and their families to Boston for the weekend to wait out Hurricane Irma.

5) Couple of Cincinnati Reds’-related notes:
a) Billy Hamiiton broke his hand Wednesday, is out for the year.
b) Rookie pitcher Luis Castillo beat the Brewers Wednesday, then was shut down for the season because in today’s baseball, prospects aren’t supposed to throw 20% more innings than they did the year before.

Castillo threw 131.2 innings last year, has 169.2 this year, a 28.9% increase, so he is done for this year with a 3-7, 3.12 mark in 15 major league starts that was way better than it looks.

4) Will Middlebrooks had a pinch-hit triple in both games of a twin bill for Texas Wednesday; he is the only person in the last 100 years to do that.

3) Dodgers have lost 11 of their last 12 games; from June 7-August 19, they were 51-9.

2) Detroit’s Ian Kinsler hit his 15th homer last night; all 15 have been solo HR’s. He is the first player since 1987 whose first 15 homers in a season all came with the bases empty.

1) Sign of the times: Middle Tennessee State got a commitment from a basketball prospect this week, but the young man just graduated 8th grade. Whats up with that? Kid won’t start college until four years from now.

13) Central Michigan needed OT to beat I-AA Rhode Island last week, after CMU blew a 13-0 halftime lead. Since 2014, Chippewas are 7-2 as a road underdog.

12) Western Michigan is 13-3 in last 16 games as a road underdog; they were tied in 4th quarter last week at USC, before losing 49-31. Michigan State is 4-8 in last 12 games as a home favorite.

11) Rutgers is 7-10 vs spread in last 17 games as a home favorite. Eastern Michigan is 7-4 in last 11 games as a road underdog.

10) Old Dominion (-8) beat UMass 36-16 at home LY, outgunning Minutemen 522-406, running ball for 274 yards. UMass is 4-7 in last 11 games as a home underdog.

9) Northwestern is 8-1 in its last nine games with Duke, winning last three by 4-9-11 points. Underdogs covered five of last six series games. Wildcats won their last five visits to Duke.

4) Rice won nine of last 11 games with UTEP; favorites covered four of last six series games. Owls are 3-2 in last five visits to El Paso; they were in Australia two weeks ago, losing 62-7 to Stanford. Rice is located in Houston; their routines have obviously been disrupted by Hurricane Harvey.
