NEW YORK (AP) Yoenis Cespedes hit a tiebreaking, two-run double in the eighth inning, and the New York Mets overcame a six-run deficit to beat the Miami Marlins 8-6 Monday for their fifth straight win.

Miami took a 6-0 lead against Matt Harvey, who lasted 3 2/3 innings. But the Mets scored in every inning from the fourth through the eighth and overcame two calls that originally went their way but were overturned upon video review.

With the score 6-all, d'Arnaud reached on an infield single to start the eighth against Fernando Rodney (0-2), who was acquired from San Diego last week and had allowed just one earned run this season. Pinch-hitter Juan Lagares sacrificed and Neil Walker drew a walk before Cespedes lined the ball into right-center for his second double and third hit of the game.

Jeurys Familia pitched the ninth for his major league-leading 29th save, converting his 45th consecutive regular-season opportunity dating to last August.

Travis d'Arnaud and Curtis Granderson started the comeback with solo homers off Tom Koehler.

    INDIANS 5, TIGERS 3

CLEVELAND (AP) - Mike Napoli hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the seventh inning and the Indians remained perfect in 10 games against the Tigers this season.

Napoli hit an 0-1 pitch from Bruce Rondon (2-1) into the left-field bleachers, helping the Indians to their 12th straight win at home.

Jeff Manship (1-1) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings and Cody Allen worked the ninth for his 18th save. The game ended when Jose Iglesias bounced into a double play. Iglesias was called safe at first, but it was reversed after a replay review.

Cleveland has outscored Detroit 65-23 this season and the Indians now lead the Tigers by 6 1/2 games in the AL Central. The win also ended Cleveland `s two-game skid that followed a franchise-record 14-game winning streak.

Nick Castellanos and Steven Moya homered for Detroit, which had won six straight.

    GIANTS 3, ROCKIES 1

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Angel Pagan hit a two-run homer and Buster Posey also connected to back Jake Peavy as San Francisco beat Colorado.

Peavy (5-7) struck out six over 6 2/3 innings to bounce back from his third-shortest outing of the season. He left to a standing ovation and tipped his cap while exiting in the seventh after a two-out single by pinch-hitter Cristhian Adames. Giants right fielder Mac Williamson made a beautiful diving catch to start the inning.

Nolan Arenado hit two doubles, but the run-starved Rockies lost its sixth straight game and fourth in a row held to one or fewer runs.

Colorado loaded the bases in the second on Ryan Raburn's one-out double, a single by Mark Reynolds and Nick Hundley's walk before Peavy was called for a balk to force in the game's first run.

Tyler Anderson (0-3) allowed three runs and four hits in six innings.

    PIRATES 4, CARDINALS 2

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Gregory Polanco homered twice and Jonathon Niese turned in his best start in almost a month to help Pittsburgh win its fifth straight - all on the road.

Polanco's two-run homer in the sixth inning off Carlos Martinez (7-6) put the Pirates ahead to stay 2-1. He added a solo shot in the eighth for the first two-homer game of his career.

Niese (7-6), who had given up at least four earned runs in each of his previous four starts, allowed just one run on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Pirates relievers Arquimedes Caminero, Juan Nicasio and Neftali Feliz combined to allow one run over the final 3 1/3 innings. Feliz picked up his first save of the season despite giving up a run-scoring double to Matt Carpenter in the ninth.

St. Louis had a three-game winning streak snapped.

    PHILLIES 8, BRAVES 2

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jerad Eickhoff pitched neatly into the eighth inning, and Odubel Herrera and Maikel Franco each hit a two-run homer as Philadelphia beat Atlanta.

Eickhoff (6-9) gave up two runs and five hits, striking out eight in 7 2/3 innings to win for the fourth time in five decisions.

After sweeping three games in Arizona and taking two of three from the defending World Series champion Royals, the Phillies didn't let up against the worst team in the NL.

They jumped on Joel De La Cruz (0-2) in the second inning. Six extra-base hits led to a season-high seven runs in the inning.

Cameron Rupp and Tommy Joseph hit doubles. Cesar Hernandez ripped an RBI triple. Herrera hit one out to deep right-center for his 10th homer. After Peter Bourjos hit a double, Franco hit his 15th homer to left-center to make it 7-1.

    CUBS 10, REDS 4

CHICAGO (AP) - Kris Bryant hit his 24th home run before leaving with a bruised leg, Willson Contreras and Addison Russell also went deep, and Chicago pounded struggling Cincinnati.

Playing the NL Central's last-place team was just what the major league-leading Cubs needed after getting outscored 32-11 in a four-game sweep by the Mets in New York.

Contreras capped a three-run second with a solo drive off Cody Reed (0-3) that made it 6-0. Russell drove in three runs and scored two.

Kyle Hendricks (7-6) gave up an unearned run and four hits in 5 1/3 innings as the Cubs started a four-game homestand on a winning note after going 4-7 on their longest trip of the season.

The Reds lost for the 11th time in 13 games.

    BLUE JAYS 6, ROYALS 2

TORONTO (AP) - Aaron Sanchez pitched eight innings to win his eighth straight decision, and Josh Donaldson and Darwin Barney each hit a two-run single in a four-run seventh inning to send Toronto past Kansas City.

Troy Tulowitzki had two hits as the Blue Jays won a rematch of last year's AL Championship Series, which Kansas City took in six games.

Sanchez (9-1) has not lost since April 22 against Oakland. He allowed one run and three hits while matching the longest start of his career.

Edinson Volquez (7-8) left after loading the bases with no outs in the seventh. Kendrys Morales and Eric Hosmer homered for the Royals.

    BREWERS 1, NATIONALS 0

WASHINGTON (AP) - Junior Guerra outpitched Max Scherzer, Martin Maldonado homered and Milwaukee defeated Washington to snap a four-game losing streak.

Guerra (6-1) allowed two hits in 7 1/3 innings while striking out seven and walking two. The 31-year-old rookie threw eight scoreless innings of two-hit ball in his previous start and has won three straight.

Maldonado gave the Brewers the lead in the fifth with his third homer of the season. Jeremy Jeffress pitched the ninth for his 22nd save.

Scherzer (9-6) threw 114 pitches in six innings. He gave up four hits and struck out seven.

    RED SOX 12, RANGERS 5

BOSTON (AP) - Brock Holt hit a two-run homer and Sandy Leon had four hits, including three of Boston's season-high nine doubles against Texas.

Mookie Betts hit a two-run homer, and Travis Shaw and Dustin Pedroia each added a solo shot as the Red Sox banged out 13 extra-base hits.

David Ortiz and Hanley Ramirez each had two doubles. The Red Sox had a season-high 21 hits to win their second straight after a 21-2 rout by the Angels.

Rougned Odor hit a solo homer and two-run single for the Rangers, who have lost five of six.

Rick Porcello (10-2) overcame a four-run first inning and improved to 7-0 at Fenway Park this season. He allowed 12 hits in six innings.

Nick Martinez (1-2) gave up six runs and 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings.

    ASTROS 2, MARINERS 1

HOUSTON (AP) - Lance McCullers struck out 10 in seven strong innings and George Springer homered for the second straight day to lift Houston over Seattle.

McCullers (4-2), who missed his previous turn with a blister on his right index finger, allowed five hits and one run while matching his season high for strikeouts. Luke Gregerson pitched a perfect eighth and Will Harris did the same in the ninth for his eighth save.

Springer doubled and scored in the first inning. There were two outs in the fifth when he launched his 19th home run to make it 2-1.

Wade Miley (6-5) yielded seven hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings for his third straight loss. The Mariners had won four straight.

    WHITE SOX 8, YANKEES 2

CHICAGO (AP) - Tim Anderson and Dioner Navarro each hit a two-run homer off CC Sabathia, helping James Shields and the Chicago White Sox beat New York.

Chicago had a string of 15 consecutive solo shots, matching a franchise record, before Anderson connected in the third inning to tie it at 2. Brett Lawrie hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the fifth before Navarro belted his fifth homer.

Navarro has seven RBIs in the last three games - all wins for the resurgent White Sox. Todd Frazier went 3 for 3 with two walks for Chicago, which has won five of six and 10 of 14.

Chase Headley hit a two-run homer for New York, which has lost three of four. Starlin Castro went 4 for 4 with two doubles in his first game in Chicago since the Yankees acquired him in a December trade with the Cubs.

New York was 0 for 13 with runners in scoring position, and shortstop Didi Gregorius made three errors.

Sabathia (5-6) struck out nine in six innings, but allowed five runs and eight hits. The big left-hander is winless in his last three outings with an 8.31 ERA.

Shields (4-9) got his second straight win after a long slump that started with San Diego and carried over to Chicago after he was acquired in a trade a month ago.

    RAYS 4, ANGELS 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Logan Morrison homered and drove in two runs to help struggling Tampa Bay end a four-game losing streak with a victory over Los Angeles.

Matt Moore (5-5) allowed two runs over 6 2/3 innings, improving to 4-0 in his career against Los Angeles and handing the slumping Angels their 12th loss in 14 games.

Morrison hit a solo homer off starter Nick Tropeano and gave the Rays the lead for good with an RBI single against Fernando Salas (3-6). Brad Miller also homered for the last-place Rays, who won for the third time in 19 games.

Jefry Marte homered off Moore before leaving in the sixth with a bruised left knee.

Ryan Garton got two outs for his first major league save.

    ATHLETICS 3, TWINS 1

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Coco Crisp snapped a seventh-inning tie with a two-run single, and Oakland stopped a four-game skid by beating Minnesota.

Kendall Graveman (4-6) halted a recent slide by the A's rotation. He allowed three hits and one run in 6 2/3 innings.

Stephen Vogt's RBI single evened the score at 1 in the seventh against Twins starter Ricky Nolasco (3-7), and Crisp gave Oakland the lead four batters later.

The Twins managed only four hits. That included a two-out triple by Eddie Rosario in the ninth, but Ryan Madson recovered to earn his 16th save in 19 attempts.

    DODGERS 7, ORIOLES 5

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Corey Seager tripled and scored the tiebreaking run on Justin Turner's sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to lead the Dodgers to their fifth straight victory, over the slumping Orioles.

Chase Utley had three hits and drove in two runs for the Dodgers, who have won 10 straight at home after rallying to claim the opener in just Baltimore's second regular-season trip to Dodger Stadium.

Yasiel Puig and Yasmani Grandal hit back-to-back homers in the second inning for the Dodgers.

J.J. Hardy and Joey Rickard drove in two runs apiece for the AL East-leading Orioles, who have lost five straight after a four-game sweep in Seattle.

Joe Blanton (4-2) pitched the seventh, and Kenley Jansen finished for his 25th save in 28 chances.

    PADRES 8, DIAMONDBACKS 4

PHOENIX (AP) - Derek Norris drove in three runs with a home run and a double before leaving with an injury and the Padres handed the Diamondbacks yet another home loss.

The Padres' Yangervis Solarte added a two-run homer and Luis Perdomo (3-3) pitched six solid innings to get the victory. The 23-year-old right-hander, in his sixth start, allowed three runs on nine hits, striking out five with no walks. He pitched to one batter in the seventh.

Norris, the team's catcher, left in the eighth inning when he was struck in the arm by a bat on the follow-through by hitter Brandon Drury.

Norris' two-run homer off Archie Bradley (3-4) in the sixth put the Padres up for good. Bradley, starting in place of injured Zack Greinke, went six innings, giving up five runs.

        Tuesday's Diamond Notes
        July 5, 2016

Hottest team: Pirates (8-2 last 10)

Pittsburgh picked up its fifth consecutive win on its current road trip by knocking off St. Louis on Monday, 4-2. The Pirates avenged a three-game home sweep by the Cardinals in mid-June with Monday’s victory, as Pittsburgh has allowed 11 runs during its current hot streak. Left-hander Steven Brault makes his Major League debut on Tuesday for the Pirates as he owns a 2.31 ERA in nine minor league starts this season. The Bucs have won three of four meetings at Busch Stadium in 2016, while the team that has won the opener of each series this season has claimed the series.

Coldest team: Angels (2-8 last 10)

Los Angeles has dropped 12 of its past 14 games, but managed to score 21 runs in one of those victories on Saturday at Boston. The Angels fell to the Rays on Monday in the opener of their series at Tropicana Field, 4-2 as Los Angeles is 1-6 in its past seven away games. Former Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum has been knocked around in his last two starts by allowing 17 hits and nine earned runs in losses to the Athletics and Astros. Following Monday’s setback, the Angels own an 0-4 record this season against the Rays, but face Tampa Bay right-hander Jake Odorizzi, who is winless in his last three trips to the mound.

        Hottest pitcher:
Kenta Maeda, Dodgers (7-5, 2.82 ERA)

Los Angeles stayed red-hot by winning its fifth straight game last night by beating Baltimore, 7-5. Maeda has allowed two earned runs or less in six of his last seven trips to the mound, as the Dodgers are 5-2 in this stretch. The right-hander shut down the Brewers on the road in his last appearance, tossing six innings and scattering three hits in an 8-1 victory as a -140 favorite. Maeda has cashed three straight ‘unders’ at home, while facing his first American League opponent this season coming up tonight.

Coldest pitcher: Tommy Milone, Twins (0-2, 6.23 ERA)

Milone is winless in six starts this season, while allowing nine runs (six earned) in his past two outings since returning to the Minnesota rotation in seven innings of work. The southpaw takes on his former team tonight at Target Field as the Twins try to rebound from Monday’s 3-1 setback to the Athletics. Milone has picked up two no-decisions at home this season, but the Twins have won each of those games in the underdog role against the Indians and Angels, as Minnesota is a slight underdog on Tuesday.

Biggest UNDER run: Rockies (5-0 last five)

Colorado’s offense has dried up recently on the west coast by scoring three runs in the last four games at Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Giants made several incredible defensive plays in Monday’s 3-1 victory over the Rockies, while Colorado’s lone run came on a balk. Colorado cashed six consecutive ‘overs’ to start its recent homestand before closing things out with an ‘under’ against Toronto. Since that ‘under,’ the Rockies have yet to hit the ‘over’ on its road trip against division foes, while facing Madison Bumgarner tonight on a 6 ½ total at AT&T Park.

Biggest OVER run: Diamondbacks (9-2 last 11)

Arizona continues to struggle at home after falling to San Diego on Monday, 8-4 to drop to 14-31 at Chase Field. The last five games on this homestand for the D-backs have seen the ‘over’ cash, while Arizona and its opponent have combined for at least nine runs in each of these contests. Arizona faces San Diego southpaw Christian Friedrich tonight, who owns a 7-1 mark to the ‘over’ in his past eight trips to the hill, while tossing seven scoreless innings the last time he pitched at Chase Field in a 10-3 blowout win in May.

Matchup to watch: Yankees vs. White Sox

Chicago has placed its early June swoon behind them by winning eight of its past 10 games, including Monday’s 8-2 blowout of the Yankees at U.S. Cellular Field. Even James Shields has gotten into the winning ways, as the struggling right-hander picked up his second consecutive victory on Monday for the Sox. New York has lost three of its first four games on its current road trip, as Masahiro Tanaka takes the mound tonight on the South Side. Tanaka was bailed out in his last start against Texas in spite of allowing six earned runs as the Yankees rallied for a 9-7 walk-off triumph. The Yankees own an 8-2 record in his past 10 starts, which includes a 7-5 victory over the White Sox in mid-May.

Betcha didn’t know: The Indians own a 6 ½-game lead over the Tigers in the AL Central, but a major reason for that advantage is the 10-0 record that Cleveland has against Detroit. The Tribe held off the Tigers on Monday, 5-3, to snap Detroit’s six-game winning streak. Since Cleveland edged Detroit, 2-1 in their first meeting this season, the last nine victories by the Indians over the Tigers have come by two runs apiece.

        Biggest public favorite:
        Giants (-230) vs. Rockies

        Biggest public underdog:
        Rangers (+165) vs. Red Sox

        Biggest line move:
White Sox (+120 to +115) vs. Yankees

LEADING OFF: All-Star rosters, Reyes returns, ALCS rematch
          July 5, 2016

A look at what's happening all around the majors today:

          ALL-STARS

Rosters for the July 12 All-Star Game in San Diego get announced at 7 p.m. EDT. Fan-elected starters, plus pitchers and reserves for the American League and National League teams will be revealed on ESPN. Based on vote totals from the final balloting update released last week, the Cubs and Red Sox figure to be well-represented. In fact, Chicago players could make up the entire starting infield for the NL.

          REYES RETURNS

Jose Reyes is set to rejoin the Mets for their game against Miami, his return to the majors following a domestic violence suspension. The 33-year-old infielder, a four-time All-Star shortstop who played for New York from 2003-11, re-signed with the team last month and hit .176 (6 for 34) during 11 games in the minors. Reyes has shifted to third base in the minors and is likely to play there with the Mets in place of injured captain David Wright. New York has won five straight.

          ALCS REMATCH

After winning the series opener 6-2 Monday night, Toronto hosts Kansas City again in another rematch of last year's AL Championship Series, won by the Royals in six games. Kansas City right-hander Chris Young (2-7, 6.24 ERA) is 0-5 with an 8.53 ERA in six road starts and winless away from home since a victory at Chicago on July 17, 2015. Blue Jays knuckleballer R.A. Dickey (5-9, 4.21) is 0-6 with a 5.14 ERA in eight home starts.

          POSTSEASON PREVIEW?

The Rangers and Red Sox square off again at Fenway Park in a matchup of playoff contenders. A.J. Griffin (3-0, 2.93 ERA) makes his third start for Texas since returning from the DL after right shoulder stiffness. Boston lefty David Price (8-5, 4.74) will be looking for a better outing against the Rangers. On June 24, he was tagged for 12 hits and six runs in 2 1/3 innings.

          COMING AND GOING

Looking for their sixth consecutive victory, the Pirates plan to call up left-hander Steven Brault from Triple-A Indianapolis to start in St. Louis against Mike Leake (5-6, 4.13). Brault replaces touted rookie Jameson Taillon (2-1, 3.86), put on the 15-day disabled list Monday with right shoulder fatigue. In addition, Pittsburgh ace Gerrit Cole will make a rehab start for Indianapolis against Louisville. Cole went on the disabled list June 14 with a strained right triceps.

          TALL TASK

Colorado tries to stop a six-game skid when Tyler Chatwood (8-4, 3.15 ERA) returns from a strained middle back that landed him on the disabled list June 19. He faces Giants ace Madison Bumgarner (9-4, 2.20), a strong candidate to earn his fourth straight All-Star selection Tuesday. Bumgarner is 12-6 against the Rockies in 24 starts. He is batting .246 (14 for 57) with four of his 13 career home runs - including a grand slam - and 15 RBIs vs. Colorado.

Bald eagle briefly finds freedom on July 4 at Dodger Stadium
            July 4, 2016

LOS ANGELES (AP) A bald eagle has soared to freedom at Dodger Stadium on the Fourth of July.

The male eagle was supposed to fly from the top of the stadium down to its handler Monday as part of the pregame festivities for Independence Day.

Instead, the liberty-loving bird flew right on past its handler on the outfield grass and continued over the center field fence.

It disappeared from view, prompting rumbles of laughter and concern from baseball fans.

The eagle was one of a pair from the Los Angeles Zoo, which has sent eagles to Chavez Ravine for pregame flights in the past.

A few innings into the Dodgers' game against the Baltimore Orioles, the team announced the eagle had been located and was headed back to the zoo with its handler.

CLEVELAND (AP) Lonnie Chisenhall was 4 for 5 with three RBIs, Carlos Santana and Tyler Naquin homered, and the Cleveland Indians remained perfect in 11 games against the Detroit Tigers this season with a 12-1 victory Tuesday night.

The Indians have outscored the Tigers 77-24 in the season series. Cleveland leads Detroit by 7 1/2 games in the AL Central.

Carlos Carrasco (5-2) allowed one run in six innings for Cleveland, which has won 13 straight at home.

Anibal Sanchez (5-9), who replaced the injured Jordan Zimmermann, allowed seven runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera was ejected in the sixth after grounding out. Cabrera, thinking the ball hit off his leg, never left the batter's box and was called out at first. He was ejected when the umpires didn't reverse the call.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Manny Machado hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning, lifting Baltimore and ending its five-game skid while stopping Los Angeles' five-game winning streak.

Machado, a newly named All-Star starter who turns 24 on Wednesday, sent a 2-2 pitch from Kenta Maeda (7-6) into the upper corner of the left field pavilion, putting the AL East-leading Orioles ahead 4-1.

The Orioles lead the majors with 129 home runs; they had 56 in June.

Chris Tillman (11-2) allowed one run and five hits in seven innings, struck out two and walked two while facing the Dodgers for the first time in his career.

                            ASTROS 5, MARINERS 2

HOUSTON (AP) - Luis Valbuena hit a solo homer and Colby Rasmus and rookie A.J. Reed added two-run shots in the fourth inning to back up a solid start by Dallas Keuchel.

Keuchel (6-9), last year's AL Cy Young Award winner who has struggled this season, allowed five hits and two runs in six innings for his season-high third straight win. Will Harris, who was named to his first All-Star team on Tuesday, pitched a scoreless ninth for his ninth save.

The Astros trailed by one in the fourth inning when Rasmus launched his homer off Taijuan Walker (4-7) to the bullpen in right-center field to make it 3-2.

                            BLUE JAYS 8, ROYALS 3

TORONTO (AP) - Josh Donaldson hit two solo home runs, Troy Tulowitzki had a three-run blast and Toronto connected four times.

Fresh off being named a reserve to the AL All-Star team, Donaldson went 3 for 4 and scored four runs while the Blue Jays won their fourth straight.

Donaldson has scored 77 runs, a franchise record for runs before the All-Star break. Carlos Delgado had 76 in 2003.

All four Toronto homers came off Royals right-hander Chris Young (2-8), who matched Runelvys Hernandez's team record by allowing at least one home run in 13 consecutive starts.

Toronto's R.A. Dickey (6-9) allowed two runs, none earned, and four hits in seven innings.

                            MARLINS 5, METS 2

NEW YORK (AP) - Giancarlo Stanton homered twice to match his career high with five RBIs, powering Wei-Yin Chen and Miami to a victory that snapped New York's five-game winning streak.

Chen (5-3) tossed seven innings of three-hit ball, spoiling Jose Reyes' return to the Mets in his first major league game since a 59-day domestic violence suspension.

Back with his original team, the speedy switch-hitter received a warm welcome from the crowd of 29,477 at Citi Field but went 0 for 4 with a strikeout in his first big league appearance this season. Batting leadoff after getting called up from the minors, he quickly doffed his helmet to cheering fans - some stood and applauded - when he stepped to the plate in the first inning.

                            RANGERS 7, RED SOX 2

BOSTON (AP) - Shin-Soo Choo homered on David Price's first pitch of the game, and Elvis Andrus scored to break a sixth-inning tie as the Texas snapped a three-game losing streak.

Price (8-6) threw 46 pitches in the first two innings - 45 after Choo drove the first one of the game out to center.

Rangers starter A.J. Griffin left after four innings, and Cesar Ramos (3-3) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the win.

CHICAGO (AP) - John Lackey's winless streak stretched to five games, Chicago manager Joe Maddon was ejected and Cincinnati beat struggling Chicago behind Zack Cozart's 13th home run.

Lackey (7-5) allowed six runs - five earned - six hits and five walks in six innings, dropping to 0-3 in his past five starts. The Cubs have lost five of their last six games and 10 of 15.

Brandon Finnegan (4-7) gave up five runs and five hits in five innings.

                            ROCKIES 7, GIANTS 3

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - All-Star Nolan Arenado hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the seventh inning to give Colorado the big hit it has missed for much of the past week and end a season-high six-game losing streak.

Colorado catcher Nick Hundley and San Francisco's Angel Pagan exchanged words in the seventh during Pagan's at-bat before plate umpire Carlos Torres and Hundley had a heated chat. Rockies manager Walt Weiss rushed out, then the umpires gathered in the infield and both benches were warned but no ejections made.

Jordan Lyles (2-2) pitched the sixth for the win.

DJ LeMahieu hit an RBI infield single in the seventh against loser Cory Gearrin (3-1).

                            BREWERS 5, NATIONALS 2

WASHINGTON (AP) - Hernan Perez hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the sixth inning to back an effective pitching performance by Zach Davies, and Milwaukee won its second road series of the season.

Davies (6-4) allowed two runs and nine hits in 6 2/3 innings. The rookie retired 10 in a row before giving up three straight singles in the seventh.

Jeremy Jeffress worked the ninth for his 23rd save.

Gio Gonzalez (4-8) is 1-7 in nine starts since May 18.

                            YANKEES 9, WHITE SOX 0

CHICAGO (AP) - Carlos Beltran celebrated his ninth All-Star selection with three of New York's season-high 20 hits.

Masahiro Tanaka (6-2) pitched into the eighth inning while improving to 4-1 with a 1.14 ERA in eight road starts.

Chicago (43-41) had won three in a row and six of eight, but it never recovered after Carlos Rodon (2-7) labored through five innings.

                            PIRATES 5, CARDINALS 2

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Eric Fryer burned his former team with two hits and three RBIs to lead Pittsburgh.

The Cardinals released Fryer when backup catcher Brayan Pena came off the 15-day disabled list and the Pirates claimed him off waivers on Sunday.

Juan Nicasio (7-6) worked two scoreless innings in relief of lefty Steven Brault, who allowed one earned run in four innings while throwing 82 pitches and adding a single in his debut.

Mark Melancon finished for his 21st consecutive save and 25th in 26 chances.

Mike Leake (5-7) gave up five runs in six innings for the Cardinals.

                            PHILLIES 5, BRAVES 1

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Maikel Franco homered for the third straight game and Philadelphia hit four overall.

Zach Eflin (1-2) struck out six and walked none in his first career complete game and first major league win.

Peter Bourjos started the home run derby and extended his hitting streak to 14 games in the first inning against Mike Foltynewicz (2-3).

                            ANGELS 13, RAYS 5

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - C.J. Cron homered twice and drove in four runs, and Los Angeles overcame another shaky start by Tim Lincecum to get its third win in 15 games.

Cron had a solo shot off Jake Odorizzi (3-4) during a four-run second and a three-run drive against Enny Romero in a six-run ninth.

Reliever Deolis Guerra (2-0) pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings.

                            TWINS 11, ATHLETICS 4

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Kennys Vargas, Max Kepler and Miguel Sano hit home runs, Tommy Milone beat his old team and Minnesota topped Oakland in a game that ended early Wednesday morning after a severe thunderstorm delayed the start by 2 hours and 42 minutes.

Marcus Semien hit his 18th home run in the second, but that was all the A's managed against Milone (1-2).

Vargas, recalled Monday from Triple-A Rochester, went deep for the first time since June 22, 2015, with a two-run, two-out home run in the fifth against Sean Manaea (3-5). Then Kepler homered on the next pitch.

                            DIAMONDBACKS 7, PADRES 5

PHOENIX (AP) - Rickie Weeks Jr. hit a three-run homer and Paul Goldschmidt had two RBIs after being named to his fourth straight NL All-Star team.

Weeks hit a three-run homer off Christian Friedrich (4-4), and Zack Godley (2-0) worked around trouble through five innings in front of 14,110 fans, the smallest crowd in Chase Field's 18-year history.

                              Armadillo: Wednesday's six-pack

-- Because of Brexit, looks like the winner of this year's British Open could make as much as $300,000 less than last year's winner made.

-- Ben Zobrist beat Daniel Murphy by 88 votes in NL All-Star voting at 2B.

-- The entire starting infield for the National League are Cubs.

-- Cleveland is 11-0 against the Tigers this season.

-- Mets had been very hot; they activate Jose Reyes and lose 5-2 to the Marlins.

-- Ben Simmons (leg cramps) left Monday's summer league game early, then didn't play in Tuesday's game. He had 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists Monday in his Sixers' debut, out in the Utah summer league.

                              **********

                              Armadillo: Wednesday's List of 13: Mid-week musings.......

                              13) Kevin Durant made sportswriting a very easy job this week, other than the fact that he also made lot of writers work on July 4th.

My take is this: Durant can do as he pleases; its a free country. You want to play for the Warriors, knock yourself out, but it gives the perception that he is not a leader and people will root against him because of it. Does that matter to him?

At the end of the day he will be really, really rich no matter what he chose; what does he care what we think? Will it effect his brand one way or the other? Only if he never wins an NBA title-- people are frontrunners and will always cheer a winner. .

                              12) Dallas Mavericks signed Seth Curry to a 2-year contract; Steph's little brother cashes in on the good season he had with Sacramento this year.

                              11) Cincinnati Reds fired their pitching coach this week, which won't help a thing. What they need are better pitchers, about five or six of them. Maybe seven.

                              10) I'm not a fan of the red-white-blue uniforms all the major league teams wear on holidays. I get it; we're Americans, we're patriotic and all that, but creating new stuff to sell online, whether it be for Mothers' Day, Fathers' Day, July 4, whatever-- just wear the normal uniforms-- hell, Arizona has eight sets of those. Enough.

                              9) Joey Chestnut credits playing the trumpet in high school with his being so good at stuffing hot dogs down his throat. I don't get the connection, but Mr Chestnut went to the same high school as CC Sabathia- they must have a good cafeteria there.

                              8) Was surprised to learn that San Jose and San Diego both have more people than San Francisco. Wouldn't have guessed that.

                              7) Marlins' catcher JT Realmuto has batted in every spot in the batting order this season, except for ninth.

                              6) Another Marlins note: if they make the playoffs, Dee Gordon can't play in them this year, because of his 80-game PED suspension.

                              5) Mets activated Jose Reyes and for some reason, Travis d'Arnaud gave him back uniform #7-- was surprised by that.

                              4) OK, you're an NBA GM: Would you rather give Timofey Mosgov $65M for four years or Bismack Biyombo $72M for four?

My choice would be Biyombo, but the guy has scored 4.6 ppg in his NBA career- he is a decent rebounder, shot blocker. In this market, that dictates $18M a year.

                              3) 76ers coach Brett Brown was telling a story on TV Monday about cutting Matthew Dellavedova from the Australian Olympic team in 2010;; was talking about how it was so painful for Dellavedova to get cut that Brown kind of knew at that point that Dellavedova was dedicated enough as a player to make a living at it. Dellavedova signed a $38M contract with the Bucks this week- go figure.

                              2) My new favorite word is "salty" as in: Getting asked for the 11th time about Tom Brady's suspension made the coach salty. Not mad, angry, annoyed, ticked off, pissed off, infuriated, ballistic-- salty. It has a certain ring to it.

                              1) Bob Stoops/Kirk Ferentz have both been in their current jobs for 18 years, making them the longest tenured I-A college football coaches in America. When was last time no I-A football coach has been in their job for 20+ years?
