TORONTO (AP) Cleveland's franchise-record 14-game winning streak was snapped by a 9-6 loss to Toronto on Saturday, with the Blue Jays scoring three runs in the eighth to overcome a cycle by Rajai Davis.

Toronto star Josh Donaldson hit a tying solo shot off Dan Otero (2-1) in the seventh and then made it 7-6 with an RBI single in the eighth. Michael Saunders added a two-run double, and Roberto Osuna pitched the ninth for his 16th save.

Edwin Encarnacion and Troy Tulowitzki also homered for Toronto, which lost 2-1 in 19 innings on Friday, matching the longest game in Blue Jays history. Jason Grilli (2-2) pitched one inning for the win.

Davis became the eighth player in Cleveland history to hit for the cycle. He led off the game with a homer, tripled home a run in the third, doubled and scored in the seventh and singled in the ninth.

          ANGELS 21, RED SOX 2

BOSTON (AP) - C.J. Cron went 6 for 6 with two homers and five RBIs, Carlos Perez had five hits and drove in six and Los Angeles ended a four-game losing streak.

Albert Pujols hit his 575th career homer - a two-run shot - and had five RBIs for the Angels, who had lost 10 of their last 11 games.

Cron and Perez each homered during an 11-run seventh inning. They are the first set of teammates with at least five hits and five RBIs in the same game since Gene Moore and Buck Jordan for the Boston Braves in 1936, according to ESPN.

It's the sixth time the Angels reached 20 runs, the last coming against Kansas City on Aug. 25, 2004. The club record for runs is 24, set at Toronto on Aug. 25, 1979.

Hector Santiago (5-4) got the win, holding the majors' highest scoring team to one unearned run and four hits over six innings.

Clay Buchholz (3-9) gave up six runs - three earned - in 4 1/3 innings.

          METS 4, CUBS 3

NEW YORK (AP) - Jake Arrieta lost a regular-season road start for the first time in 14 months when Neil Walker hit a two-run homer and Travis d'Arnaud blooped a two-run single that pushed the Mets to their third straight win over the Cubs.

Bartolo Colon (7-4) outpitched the NL Cy Young Award winner, who struggled with his control in a 35-pitch first inning, when he went to 3-2 counts on his first four batters.

After winning his first 12 decisions, Arrieta (12-3) lost for the third time in six starts, giving up four runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Colon allowed two runs and four hits in six innings. Jeurys Familia worked the ninth for his major league-leading 28th save.

Anthony Rizzo and Ben Zobrist homered for the Cubs.

          DODGERS 6, ROCKIES 1

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Scott Kazmir pitched six scoreless innings, Trayce Thompson and Adrian Gonzalez drove in two runs each and Los Angeles got its eighth straight home victory.

Kazmir (7-3) extended his unbeaten streak to 10 starts by holding the Rockies to a single and two doubles. He struck out 10 without walking a batter.

Rockies starter Chad Bettis (6-6) lost for the first time in five starts, giving up four runs on six hits in six innings. He struck out four and walked one.

          PADRES 2, YANKEES 1

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Melvin Upton Jr. homered on the first pitch of the ninth to give San Diego a walk-off win.

It was the third game-ending homer of the year for Upton, who homered into the second balcony on the Western Metal Supply Co. Building in the left-field corner.

Andrew Miller (5-1) was starting his second inning for the Yankees.

Brad Hand (2-2) pitched the ninth for the win.

          MARINERS 12, ORIOLES 6

SEATTLE (AP) - Mike Zunino homered twice in his first game of the season, Nelson Cruz and Seth Smith both hit three-run home runs and Seattle slugged past Baltimore.

Cruz staked Seattle to a 3-0 lead with his 21st homer of the season in the first inning off Baltimore starter Tyler Wilson (4-6) and Zunino extended it to 5-0 in the second on a two-run shot in his first at-bat of the season after being called up from Triple-A Tacoma earlier this week.

James Paxton (2-3) was dominant for four innings but couldn't make it out of the sixth after allowing five base runners in the inning.

          PIRATES 4, ATHLETICS 2

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - David Freese hit a go-ahead single in the top of the 10th inning, and Pittsburgh got its third straight win.

Erik Kratz led off the inning with a single against Daniel Coulombe (1-1), Jordy Mercer sacrificed him over and Freese singled to left. A's left fielder Coco Crisp threw out Freese at home on Adam Frazier's single moments later, and the play was upheld on an umpire review.

Juan Nicasio (6-6) struck out two in the ninth for the victory, then Mark Melancon allowed a pair of singles before finishing for his 23rd save.

          TWINS 17, RANGERS 5

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Max Kepler homered twice and set a Twins rookie record by driving in seven runs.

Eduardo Nunez had four hits for the Twins, who scored at least three runs in four of the first five innings. Kepler's second home run of the day capped a six-run fifth inning and gave Minnesota a 17-4 lead.

Texas right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez (0-1) recorded just two outs in his second start of the season. Ryan Rua and Robinson Chirinos homered for the AL-leading Rangers, who had won five of seven.

Tyler Duffey (4-6) was the beneficiary of the outburst from one of the majors' weakest lineups, pitching six innings for his second straight win.

          BRAVES 9, MARLINS 1

ATLANTA (AP) - Freddie Freeman homered to help Atlanta hand Marlins ace Jose Fernandez one of the worst starts of his career.

Fernandez (10-4) drove in the decisive runs as a pinch hitter in Miami's 7-5 12-inning win over Atlanta on Friday night, but allowed a career-high nine runs, six earned, and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings on Saturday.

The six earned runs matched Fernandez's career high and equaled the six he allowed in five starts in June, when he had a 1.67 ERA.

Atlanta's Lucas Harrell (1-0) pitched six innings of one-run ball in his first start in the majors in two years. Freeman had three hits and Jace Peterson also homered.

          TIGERS 3, RAYS 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Justin Verlander pitched seven solid innings, and Detroit earned its fifth consecutive win.

Verlander (8-6) allowed two runs, one earned, and four hits while improving to 5-2 in eight starts at Tropicana Field.

The Tigers look to complete a four-game sweep Sunday against the reeling Rays, who lost for the 15th time in 17 games.

Tampa Bay rookie Blake Snell (1-3) gave up three runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings in his fifth start.

Justin Wilson pitched the eighth before Francisco Rodriguez got three outs for his 23rd save.

          CARDINALS 3, BREWERS 0

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Adam Wainwright pitched seven innings and Kolten Wong had a two-run triple, leading St. Louis to the win.

The Cardinals turned four double plays, including the fourth, fifth and sixth. Jonathan Broxton got three outs and Seung Hwan Oh, a longtime closer in Japan and Korea, finished the seven-hitter for his first career save.

St. Louis improved to 6-2 against Milwaukee and goes for a three-game series sweep on Sunday.

Milwaukee is 13-25 on the road and has lost 27 of the last 40 against the Cardinals.

Wainwright (7-5) allowed seven hits, struck out five and walked two.

Jimmy Nelson (5-7) gave up three runs, two earned, and seven hits in six innings.

          WHITE SOX 7, ASTROS 6

HOUSTON (AP) - Chris Sale pitched seven-plus innings to become the majors' first 14-game winner, helping the White Sox to the victory on the road.

Sale (14-2) settled down after a slow start, allowing five runs, four earned, and six hits. David Robertson yielded A.J. Reed's first career homer in the ninth before finishing for his 22nd save.

Dioner Navarro drove in a season-high four runs for Chicago, which has won three of four. J.B. Shuck hit a solo homer in the fourth and an RBI triple in Chicago's two-run eighth inning.

Houston starter Doug Fister (8-4) allowed nine hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings for his second straight loss. He walked five and struck out three.

          ROYALS 6, PHILLIES 2

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Kendrys Morales homered twice and drove in four runs, powering Kansas City to the win.

Morales extended his hitting streak to eight consecutive games with a second-inning homer. He is batting .565 with seven homers and 21 RBIs in his last 13 games.

Kansas City's Danny Duffy (4-1) allowed two runs and seven hits in a career-high 8 2/3 innings. The left-hander's previous best was eight innings, which he tied in Monday's win over St. Louis.

Cesar Hernandez and Maikel Franco each had two hits for Philadelphia, which had won four in a row. Aaron Nola (5-8) allowed five runs and six hits in five innings.

          DIAMONDBACKS 6, GIANTS 5

PHOENIX (AP) - Welington Castillo's three-run homer off Hunter Strickland (3-1) in the eighth inning rallied Arizona to end a six-game losing streak.

Jake Barrett (1-0) earned his first major league win in relief and Brad Ziegler got his 17th save of the season.

The Diamondbacks avoided their longest losing streak of the season.

          REDS 9, NATIONALS 4

WASHINGTON (AP) - Tucker Barnhart singled home the tiebreaking run in the 10th inning and Cincinnati piled on to end a five-game skid.

Josh Smith (1-1) pitched 1 1/3 innings for his first career win.

Eugenio Saurez and Brandon Phillips opened the 10th with singles off Sammy Solis (1-3) and first baseman Ryan Zimmerman was unable to field Billy Hamilton's sacrifice attempt, loading the bases.

            Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

Friday was a great day to be an NBA player (or their agent):

-- Timofey Mosgov getting $65M for four years is nonsense; guy played 76:00 total in 21 playoff games for Cleveland this spring.

-- Brooklyn giving Jeremy Lin $36M for three years makes some sense.

-- Joakim Noah is a good fit for the triangle offense; Derrick Rose is not.

-- Pelicans gave Solomon Hill $12M a year; guy started three games for Indiana last season. He played a lot for the Pacers the year before, but $12M a year?

-- Milwaukee gave Matthew Dellavedova $38.5M for four years.

-- Memphis made Mike Conley the highest-paid player in NBA history. Problem is, he's never even made one All-Star Game.

            **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Random stuff with weekend here......

            13) I'm a big fan of the instant replay system in baseball, think it has made the game a lot better, but the Angels-Red Sox game Friday night was instant replay at its worst.

Angels are down 5-4 in ninth inning; Mike Trout is tying run on first with two out. . Daniel Nava hits a ball down the rightfield line at Fenway- it bounces, hits the top of the short wall, keeps going until a fan reaches out and grabs the ball. Call on the field is a ground rule double, but even the Red Sox TV guys said Trout should score.

Angels challenge the play but replay says Trout should stay at third. Who is making this call? Maybe they should show which umpires are deciding what in the replay center in Manhattan, because whoever made that decision screwed the Angels bigtime.

            12) In 2013-14, NBA salary cap was $58.68M; it went up to $63.07, then $70M his past year, $94M next year and $107M in 2017-18, so the NBA is very healthy.

This year's salary floor is $85M; teams have to spend that much on salary, which is part of why guys who aren't stars are raking in silly money.

            11) I remember seeing OJ Mayo play in an AAU tournament in Florida in 2006; he played on D-I Greyhounds, who also had Bill Walker- they played the 10pm game in The Milkhouse most nights-- they were the best team, and they knew it.

Ten years later, Mayo has banked $46M in salary but is now suspended by the NBA for two years- he'll be turning 31 next time he is eligible to be an NBA player, just as salaries are really taking off bigtime now. It can be difficult to handle prosperity.

            10) New Orleans Saints wanted to make a waiver claim on QB Connor Shaw this week, but instead of e-mailing the NFL, they mistakenly sent their plan to every other team in the league and the Chicago Bears picked Shaw up instead.

            9) White Sox got shut out Friday nite, but their TV guys praised home plate ump Jordan Baker, a young umpire who is 6-foot-8. When Hawk Harrelson praises an umpire after a White Sox loss, you know the ump did a really good job.

            8) Somehow Tom Brady was involved in the Celtics' pitch to lure Kevin Durant to Boston as a free agent. Durant grew up in Maryland but isn't a Ravens' fan?

            7) Captain Obvious checks in with this: In movies and on TV shows, the good guys are much better shooters than the bad guys. Bad guys should practice more- never see a criminal at a gun range practicing.

            6) Arizona Cardinals are 20-6-1 vs spread under Bruce Arians in games where the spread was 4 or less points, by far best in NFL.

Indianapolis Colts are 23-13-1 under Chuck Pagano in games with a spread of 4 or less points, but if you remember, Pagano was ill during his first year as coach- the interim coach? Bruce Arians. Indy was 6-2-1 vs spread that season in low-spread games.

            5) There is a tournament at World Series of Poker this weekend-- it costs $50,000 to enter, five times what the Main Event costs. Daniel Negreanu says that for most of the top players, the Players tourney is most fun/prestigious event of the WSOP.

            4) Seven of the top nine international baseball prospects that were eligible for the draft this weekend were listed as shortstops, including all of the top five.

            3) As I type this, Ryan Anderson just got $80M for four years from Houston; he scored 15.4 ppg the last two years in 29 mpg, despite starting only 12 of 127 games. He is a career 37.7% shooter outside the arc. Shooting is marketable.

Al Horford gets $113M for four years from the Celtics.

            2) Blue Jays 9, Indians 6-- Congrats to Cleveland on a 14-game winning streak.

            1) Pinnacle Sports posted odds on the Nathan's hot dog eating contest that is held every July 4 on Coney Island in Brooklyn.:

Over 65.5 hot dogs eaten by winner: -$145. Under 65.5: +119

                        July 3, 2016

Hottest team: Indians (14-1 last last 15)
For the first time since June 15, we’ll see how the Tribe responds after a loss. For perspective as to how long ago that was, the Cavs were still down 3-2 in the NBA Finals at that point. Cleveland had just been swept in Kansas City, but bounced back to set a franchise record with 14 consecutive wins before falling 9-6 on Saturday afternoon, surrendering the game’s final four runs. The Indians bullpen is a concern after Friday’s 19-inning win and a host of close games they’ve been involved with, but the team’s starting pitching and offense has been the best in baseball for over two weeks. In all, Terry Francona’s team outscored opponents 82-27 during their winning streak and will look to bounce back with rotation mainstay Corey Kluber (8-7, 3.50 ERA) after being forced to give Zach McAllister a spot start yesterday. The 2014 Cy Young Award winner went 4-1 with a 2.19 ERA in June but lost his only start against the Blue Jays last year. Lefty J.A. Happ (10-3, 3.70) will pitch for Toronto, looking to claim his fifth straight decision, extending his team lead in wins.

                        Coldest team
                        : Rays (0-3 last 3, 2-15 last 17)
Tampa Bay hoped it had finally snapped out of its funk earlier this week when Matt Moore outdueled good buddy and former teammate David Price to help take two of three games from visiting Boston, but the Tigers came into town with other ideas. After scoring 10 runs in each of the first two games, winning the series opener with eight in the ninth, Detroit held off the Rays 3-2 on Saturday, riding Justin Verlander. Banged up and getting limited crowd support, Tampa Bay will turn to Chris Archer (4-11, 4.76) as it tries to avoid being swept in this four-game set, but has just won once in his last eight starts, scoring more than three runs only twice. The Rays do have the good fortune of running into Mike Pelfrey (2-7, 5.02), Detroit’s most vulnerable starter.

                        Hottest pitcher:
                        Jon Lester (9-3, 2.03 ERA)
After losing another Jake Arrieta start, Chicago looks to avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the Mets by turning to Lester, their ERA leader and lone lefty starter. The Cubs have lost only once in Lester’s last seven outings and watched him go 4-0 with a 1.41 ERA in June to move into second behind L.A.’s Clayton Kershaw among MLB’s ERA leaders. Lester lost a 4-2 decision to New York and Matt Harvey in Game 1 of last year’s NLCS and will look to stop a seven-game losing streak at the hands of the Mets that started last postseason. He’ll face Noah Syndergaard (8-3, 2.49), who outdueled Arrieta in NLCS Game 2 and has been New York’s best pitcher this year. Syndergaard is coming off surrendering five runs in just three innings to snap a personal six-game winning streak in an 11-4 loss at Washington on June 27. Although there have been rumors he’s been dealing with elbow pain, his velocity was normal and he reported feeling good. This is by far Sunday’s top pitching matchup.

Coldest pitcher: Francisco Liriano (4-8, 5.33 ERA)
The Pirates have won the first two games in their series at Oakland after splitting in Seattle, so their West Coast trip is going extremely well, delivering them to within a game of .500 as they look for a sweep of the A’s. They’ll need to overcome Liriano’s slumping ways to get the job done since he’s pitched in a single victory over his last nine starts. The Dominican lefty has gotten through six innings only twice in his last seven and has surrendered at least four runs in five of six. Liriano has been even worse on the road, giving up 11 home runs in just 38.2 innings and is 1-4 with a 6.98 ERA outside of Pittsburgh. He’s had a pretty solid run with the Pirates, but the manner in which he’s coming apart is similar to how the bottom fell out for him in Minnesota. Oakland slugger Khris Davis is 4-for-12 against him with two homers.

Biggest UNDER run: Cardinals (4-0 last 4)
Brewers starter Chase Anderson (4-8, 5.45) may threaten this St. Louis run since he’s been flammable in his last three starts, all Milwaukee losses. Anderson has surrendered 17 runs in his last 11.1 innings and will be seeing the Cardinals for the first time this season. He’s 1-5 with a 6.30 ERA on the road, but did get through six innings of two-run ball in his only career Busch Stadium appearance. The Cardinals have pitched extremely well on their current homestand, giving up a single run in this series and losing tight games against Kansas City due to their bats betraying them. The Pirates come in next for a key four-game set, but St. Louis has its eyes set on a sweep of the Brewers as they send Michael Wacha (4-7, 4.42) to the mound. He’s had the ‘over’ prevail in seven of his last eight starts despite giving up more than three runs only once in his five June starts. This total has been set at 8.5.

                        Biggest OVER run:
                        Twins (18-5-2 last 25)
Minnesota exploded for a season-high 17 runs against the Rangers on Saturday, riding a breakout 2-home run, 7-RBI game from rookie Max Kepler. Despite the worst record in baseball, the Twins have been involved in an astounding amount of high-scoring games since May 23. In a 37-game stretch, either Minnesota or its opponent has scored at least five runs in 31 of them, leading to the ‘over’ going 27-8-2. The Twins and Rangers are in the midst of seeing one another seven times between now and the All-Star break, which could lead to plenty of fireworks since Texas has scored at least five runs in eight of its last 10 games. Kyle Gibson (1-5, 5.12) shut out the White Sox over seven innings in his last start, but had been involved in games that climbed ‘over’ the posted total in three of his previous four outings. Rangers ace Cole Hamels (9-1, 2.60) might squash any hope of another big day at the plate for Minnesota, however, since he’s given up two earned runs or less in each of his last five starts, all wins. This total has been set at 8.5.

Matchup to watch: Marlins vs. Braves
Where they’re playing is more important than who is playing in this one. Fort Bragg Stadium, as its being referred to, is a temporary structure on the largest military base in the world that Major League Baseball funded solely for this event in North Carolina. It will be converted into a multi-purpose facility post-game, having been built on land that used to be a golf course. The facility will host the first regular-season MLB game ever played on a military instillation in celebration of July 4th weekend. The 12,500-seat stadium will welcome in mostly soldiers and U.S. Department of Defense personnel in a game that will feature Atlanta as the home team. Both the Braves and Marlins arrived late after playing a 9-1 game at Turner Field that Atlanta surprisingly won as a +235 underdog against Miami ace Jose Fernandez in the biggest shocker of an upset-filled Saturday. The Braves have won only 28 games this season, but are 8-3 against the Marlins, keeping their NL East rival from a firm grip on a Wild Card spot. Lefty Adam Conley (4-5, 3.90) and Matt Wisler (3-7, 4.14) will take the mound on the Sunday night stage for their respective teams. The total has been set at 8.5.

                        Betcha didn’t know:
Brandon McCarthy is undefeated as a member of the Dodgers despite a 5.87 ERA. L.A., notorious for its lack of run support last season, averaged 7.75 runs per game in McCarthy's starts last April before he tore the UCL in his elbow and underwent Tommy John Surgery. McCarthy, who missed the entire 2010 season due to a shoulder surgery, will be pitching in the bigs for the first time in over 14 months following a rehab stint at Class A Rancho Cucamonga that begin on June 12. McCarthy went 0-1 with a 4.61 ERA in Class-A, striking out 11 and walking three. Colorado, who McCarthy shut out 7-0 in his best Dodgers start, will counter with Jon Gray (5-3, 4.83) to try and avoid a sweep. The Rockies have scored a single run in the first two games of the series.

Biggest public favorite: Rangers (-160) at Twins

Biggest public underdog: Rockies (+115) at Dodgers

Biggest line move: Rays (-140 to -155) vs. Tigers

LEADING OFF: Marlins-Braves at Fort Bragg, McCarthy back
                          July 3, 2016

A look at what's happening all around the majors today:

                          HOLIDAY GETAWAY

The Braves host the Marlins in a special for-the-troops contest in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. It's believed to be the first regular-season baseball game played at an active military installation. Major League Baseball is staging the game at the sprawling U.S. Army post on the day before Independence Day as a thank you to the armed forces. It has turned an overgrown golf course into a major league-ready field surrounded by a temporary 12,500-seat ballpark - a project that's costing MLB and the players' association roughly $5 million.

                          REINFORCEMENTS

The limping Dodgers get Brandon McCarthy back from the DL to make his season debut against Colorado. McCarthy made four starts after signing a $48 million, four-year free agent deal with Los Angeles in 2015 before having to have Tommy John surgery. His return is timely for L.A., which has sent six starting pitchers to the DL this season, including ace Clayton Kershaw on Friday.

                          WRAP IT UP

The Mets try to complete a four-game sweep of the Cubs in a rematch of last year's NL Championship Series with aces Jon Lester (9-3, 2.03) and Noah Syndergaard (8-3, 2.49) on the mound. Lester has won five straight decisions, though he's coming off two consecutive no-decisions despite allowing just three runs over 14 2/3 innings. Syndergaard allowed five runs in three innings last time out against the Nationals, ending a six-decision winning streak.

                          BETTER LUCK THIS MONTH

Angels right-hander Matt Shoemaker (3-8, 4.12 ERA) hopes for better luck this month starting against Boston in the series finale at Fenway Park. He was winless in six starts (0-3) in June despite an impressive 2.14 ERA. Right-hander Sean O'Sullivan (1-0, 7.94) is slated to pitch for the Red Sox.

                          STRUGGLING ARMS

Jose Quintana (5-3, 3.18) will start for the White Sox against Houston. Quintana looks to get back on track after going 0-7 with a 4.58 ERA in his last nine starts. Collin McHugh (5-5, 4.58) is up for Houston and is searching for his first win since May 30 after getting one loss and four no-decisions over his past five starts.

                          HOT COLE

Rangers lefty Cole Hamels (9-1, 2.60) has won four straight starts, giving up just two earned runs in 27 2/3 innings. He'll look to extend that streak against Minnesota's Kyle Gibson (1-5, 5.12), who earned his first win of the season on Tuesday. Gibson pitched seven innings in a 4-0 win over the White Sox.
