Armadillo: Tuesday's six-pack

-- Mets have scored first in their last 12 games, a franchise record.

-- Brandon Phillips has hit safely in 33 straight games at Shea Stadium/Citi Field.

-- Golden State outscored the Rockets 41-20 in third quarter Sunday, after Stephen Curry left the game for good. What does that say about Houston?

-- Freddie Freeman was hitting .190, Braves dropped him to 6th in order last nite; they lost 1-0 at home to Boston. Going to be a long summer in Atlanta. .

-- Blues 3, Blackhawks 2-- St Louis avoids huge collapse by winning Game 7.

-- Blazers 98, Clippers 84-- Chris Paul broke bone in his hand, is done for series.

Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but........

Pretty eventful day, for a Monday in April.........
13) Tom Brady will be suspended for the first four games of the season, after a federal appeals court overturned a lower court's ruling. Patriots have already jumped from 6-1 to 8-1 to win Super Bowl-- the average point spread for New England's first four games moved 3.5 to 4 points with Brady out of the lineup.

Those first four games? @Arizona, then Miami-Houston-Buffalo, all at home.

12) Stephen Curry has a Grade 1 sprained MCL, the lowest sprain possible; they are saying they'll re-evaluate in two weeks. If Golden State doesn't win the title, media will turn on Steve Kerr for playing Curry too much trying to get to the 73-9 regular season record and wearing him out.

11) ESPN's Mike Tirico, who is really good at calling every sport, is leaving ESPN for NBC, where he will call Thursday Night Football and PGA Tour. There are also rumors of Brad Nessler jumping to CBS to replace Verne Lundquist on SEC football when that day comes, as well as calling college basketball.

Sean McDonough was mentioned as a possible replacement for Tirico on Monday Night Football.

10) Former UNLV basketball coach Dave Rice signed on as an assistant coach with Eric Musselman at rival Nevada-Reno. Musselman makes less than a half million, so if he were to lead the Wolf Pack to the NCAAs next year, after a big season this year, he figures to move on to a higher profile job, leaving Rice as the logical successor in Reno.

9) Speaking of the Mountain West, they have 11 teams right now, which is a bad number; they're supposedly looking for a 12th school-- UTEP is being mentioned.

8) The April open recruiting period for college basketball ended this weekend; noticed that some teams offered kids in Class of '19 scholarships-- those are 9th graders. I'm not sure why teams do this-- difficult to project three years down the road.

7) Couple of graduate transfers: Avery Woodson jumps from Memphis to Butler; Ronnie Johnson bolts from Houston to Auburn.

6) Sam Bradford has requested a trade from the Eagles; this is the guy with a career won-lost record of 25-37-1, with 33 games missed due to injury-- he's already banked roughly $87M in six years, despite playing in zero playoff games, but he requested a trade, because Philly is going to draft a QB Thursday. That takes onions.

5) Bill Polian/Herm Edwards are very good in ESPN's studio during the day; they tell you stuff you don't know.

4) John Daly turns 50 this week; the Senior Golf Tour is about to get a little more interesting.

3) There were no radar gun readings at Citi Field last night with Noah Syndergaard pitching; doubt it is a coincidence, since there so few coincidences in this world. Mark Mulder never liked radar gun readings on the scoreboard when he pitched for the A's, so maybe it was a request from the pitcher himself.

2) As if the Presidential race couldn't get stranger, Bob Knight is going to endorse Donald Trump in Indianapolis Wednesday. Should make for good TV.

1) If you know me, you know when I call someone "a weasel" that is the worst possible insult coming from me. Well, this Cruz/Kasich alliance has weasel written all over it. No wonder people despise politicians- they're total sellouts and people are so disgusted with politicians that an egotistical billionaire that very few people like could wind up being the President of the United States. Awesome.

The bad: on the same day, starter Carlos Carrasco was placed on the disabled list, and it was revealed he could be out up to six weeks recovering from a strained left hamstring.

SALE ON

White Sox left-hander Chris Sale (4-0, 1.80) can become the first five-game winner in the majors when Chicago faces R.A. Dickey and the Blue Jays. The 27-year-old has thrown 16 consecutive scoreless innings and won each of his first four starts this season.

ACES SHOWING

One established ace faces a possible up-and-coming staff leader when Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer (2-1, 4.32 ERA) faces Phillies right-hander Vince Velasquez (2-1, 0.93). Scherzer has struggled with the long ball so far this season, allowing four in four starts. Velasquez, meanwhile, has a 16-strikeout game among his three outings this season and entered Monday with the second best strikeout-to-walk ratio (9.67) in the majors, trailing only Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw.

The Twins demoted hyped outfield prospect Byron Buxton to Triple-A after the 22-year-old got off to a rocky start this season. Buxton hit .156 with 24 strikeouts in 45 at-bats this month after batting .209 in 46 games last season. Prized prospect Max Kepler was also sent back to Triple-A, with right-hander Alex Meyer promoted from Triple-A and utility man Danny Santana activated from the DL.

BACK AT HOME

Diamondbacks left-hander Shelby Miller gets back to pitching after making an impromptu appearance in Arizona's outfield over the weekend. Miller was put into left field Sunday when the Diamondbacks ran out of position players in extra innings against the Pirates, becoming the first Arizona pitcher to ever play a position. The winning hit even soared over his head - not that even a star defensive outfielder could've done anything on the play.

13) MSNBC's Hallie Jackson was in the gym where Hoosiers was filmed last night for a political rally, but admitted on air that she has never seen the iconic basketball movie. Ms Jackson will be 32 on Friday, two years before Hoosiers was made; she went to college at Johns Hopkins, an elite college, but so did Andy Enfield, the basketball coach at USC.

I've never seen Star Wars or The Godfather; I can't say anything.

12) Uh-oh. Prince didn't have a will or a trust, so his sister, six half-siblings are in line to divide his estate, estimated at $300M, which doesn't include the stash of hundreds of unpublished songs, which figure to be worth another small fortune. Hopefully they can divide everything up peacefully.

11) Over/under given by a doctor Tuesday on recovery time for Chris Paul's hand injury: four weeks. If Paul misses four weeks, his next game for the Clippers will be in October- they're not going far without him.

10) I like Steve Kerr, I'm a big fan of his, but how in God's name does a coach who missed 43 of 82 regular season games win Coach of the Year? No player who missed 43 games would ever win MVP-- it makes very little sense.

Hottest team: Mets (5-0 last five)
Following a 2-5 start, many people thought last season’s run to the World Series by New York could have been a fluke. However, the Mets have rebounded lately to win eight of their last nine games, while capturing five consecutive victories. New York rallied past Cincinnati on Tuesday, 4-3, as the Mets have allowed three runs or less in all five games during this hot streak. The Mets go for the sweep tonight with Matt Harvey on the mound before the Giants invade Citi Field this weekend.

Coldest team: Braves (0-7 last seven)
Atlanta began the season at 0-9 before winning four straight games. However, the Braves haven’t won since April 19 against the Dodgers as Atlanta is riding a fresh seven-game skid. During this time, the Braves were swept at home by the Mets and Red Sox, while scoring three runs or less six times during this span. It doesn’t get any easier for Atlanta, as the Braves travel to Fenway Park for two more games with the Red Sox followed by a pair of three-game road sets against the Cubs and Mets.

Hottest pitcher: Jake Arrieta, Cubs (4-0, 0.87 ERA)
Arrieta hasn’t skipped a beat since capturing the Cy Young award last season as the Cubs’ right-hander is coming off his second career no-hitter. Last Thursday, Arrieta didn’t allow a hit in a 16-0 rout of the Reds, while not giving up an earned run for the third time in four starts. Arrieta enters tonight’s contest against the Brewers as a heavy -340 favorite, but tossed a complete-game shutout as a -325 favorite against Milwaukee last September.

Coldest pitcher: Colin McHugh, Astros (1-3, 7.56 ERA)
It’s been a disastrous start for the Houston right-hander as McHugh has allowed four earned runs in three of his first four outings. McHugh was racked in a pair of home losses to the Tigers and Red Sox by giving up 10 hits in each of those defeats, while yielding nine earned runs in 9.1 innings of work. Last season, McHugh won two of three meetings with the Mariners, but was knocked around in an 8-1 home loss by giving up eight earned runs in three innings of work.

Biggest UNDER run: Rays (2-0 last two)
Although this streak isn’t currently very long, Tampa Bay continues to cash plenty of ‘unders’ at Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay is coming off a pair of ‘unders’ against Baltimore to improve to 9-2 to the ‘under’ at home this season. The Rays won each game behind strong pitching performances from Chris Archer and Jake Odorizzi (2-0 and 3-1), while Tampa Bay hasn’t scored more than three runs at home in six of its last seven contests at the Trop.

Biggest OVER run: Cardinals (4-0 last four)
St. Louis needed to travel out west to find its offense, as the Cardinals have scored 34 runs in the last four games. The Cards put up 19 runs in a pair of victories at San Diego, followed by 15 runs the past two nights against the Diamondbacks. Eleven times this season the Cardinals have plated at least seven runs, while doing so seven times away from Busch Stadium. However, St. Louis is facing a left-handed starting pitcher for only the fourth time this season when the Cards see Arizona southpaw Patrick Corbin tonight. The Redbirds have cashed the ‘over’ in two of three opportunities when squaring off with a left-handed hurler.

Matchup to watch: Athletics vs. Tigers
Oakland and Detroit have split the first two games of this series at Comerica Park with each team winning each matchup by four runs apiece. The pitching matchup evens out tonight with Justin Verlander and Sonny Gray taking the mound for the third game of this four-game set. Oakland has thrived on the highway with an 8-3 record, while Gray is coming off a road underdog victory at Toronto in his last outing. Verlander is winless in two home starts against the Pirates and Indians, but pitched well in a 2-1 defeat to Cleveland last Friday by striking out 10 in seven innings in spite of allowing a pair of solo home runs.

Betcha you didn’t know: The Pirates have owned the Rockies at Coors Field over the years by winning seven straight meetings in Denver. Andrew McCutchen went deep three times in Tuesday’s 9-4 rout of the Rockies, as the Pirates have scored at least five runs in each of the past seven wins at Colorado. The Pirates face Colorado’s Jonathan Gray tonight, as Pittsburgh beat him twice last season, including scoring five runs on the right-hander in less than five innings of a 9-3 rout last September.
