The under is hot when Orioles' Chen faces AL West

The under is a very good 18-3 in the last 21 games Baltimore's Wei-Yin Chen has started against American League West opponents.

Under backers hope the streak continues Wednesday when the Orioles visit the Oakland Athletics in the finale of their three-game series.

Chen (3.24 ERA, 4-14 O/U) goes up against A's right-hander Kendall Graveman (3.84 ERA, 7-9 O/U), where the total currently sits at 7.0 runs.

Mariners' Walker looks to stay hot on the road

The Seattle Mariners are hoping young right-hander Taijuan Walker can keep up his absurd hot-streak when pitching on the road Wednesday in Colorado against the Rockies.

The Mariners are 6-0 in Walker's last six road starts, where he has pitched to a 2.07 ERA while punching out 40 batters and giving up just three walks in 39.1 innings of work.

Seattle and Walker are currently -126 road favorites going up against Rockies southpaw Chris Rusin (3-4, 4.61 ERA).

Pitchers wind at U.S. Cellular Field Wednesday

The pitchers for today's contest between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Chicago White Sox could be given a hand by the wind Wednesday at U.S. Cellular Field Wednesday.

There will be a 10 mile per hour wind gusting in from left field during the game, otherwise, the weather is expected to be clear with temperatures in the high 70's.

The pitchers benefiting from the wind are the Rays' Erasmo Ramirez (3.61 ERA, 5-9 O/U) and the White Sox's Carlos Rodon (4.84 ERA, 8-6 O/U). The total currently sits at 8.0.

                  White Sox slumping at home

The Chicago White Sox are in a slump at U.S. Cellular Field, going 1-8 in their last nine games there.

The Pale Hose problem during the slump has been pitching, allowing a whopping 7.22 runs per game in those nine games, while scoring just 4.22 runs themselves.

They try to break out of the slump Wednesday afternoon against the visting Tampa Bay Rays.

The White Sox, currently -121 faves, send left-hander Carlos Rondon (4-4, 4.84 ERA) to the mound to take on the Rays right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (8-4, 3.61 ERA).

Rocky stretch for White Sox pitching staff

                    Aug 05, 2015

CHICAGO -- The White Sox pitching staff carried Chicago's teetering postseason hopes for half the season, but they're going through some turbulence now that the offense is out of its season-long slumber.

White Sox pitchers allowed 27 runs in a three-game series against the New York Yankees this past weekend and then the bullpen collapsed in three straight innings of a 5-4 loss Monday to start a series against the Tampa Bay Rays. That was before the Rays beat them 11-3 on Tuesday night at U.S. Cellular Field and hung seven runs on left-handed ace Chris Sale.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura, however, is taking a measured approach to the recent pitching blips.

"Everybody goes through their ruts and pitchers have nights where it doesn't happen," Ventura said, prior to Sale allowing seven runs for the second straight start. "As far as feeling confident with those guys going out there, you take your chances with these guys and feel confident bringing those guys in (from the bullpen) and doing their job."

The issue is preventing a recent rough patch from becoming something more troubling.

During the previous five games, White Sox relievers posted a combined 5.49 ERA, and in the loss Monday, some of Chicago's top relievers gave up key runs late in the game.

That included right-handed closer David Robertson, who entered with the game tied 4-4 in the ninth and allowed the eventual game-winning run on a clutch two-out single by Tampa Bay right fielder Mikie Mahtook.

"In the end, David will come out and put it behind him and come back and he'll be ready to go today," Ventura said. "Anybody who comes out of the bullpen and gives up a run, they put it behind them and get ready to go the next day. That's what you have to do. You forget about yesterday, prepare for today and be ready to go."

Angels' Wilson set to get another opinion on elbow

                      Aug 05, 2015

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Los Angeles Angels left-hander C.J. Wilson will receive another medical opinion before possibly undergoing season-ending surgery to remove bone spurs from his left elbow.

Wilson announced his likely intention to seek surgery Saturday, when he underwent an MRI exam that revealed what the club called "left elbow impingement secondary to arthritis." The elbow was drained four times this season, but Wilson said the bone spurs limited his range of motion to such an extent that he could no longer pitch effectively.

"I'm in a situation where I can't even play catch," Wilson told the Los Angeles Times on Saturday. "As it gets worse, the risk of blowing my shoulder out and being completely done with baseball increases, and I'm not willing to take that risk."

Wilson, who went on the disabled list Friday, will speak Aug. 11 with Neal ElAttrache, a highly regarded orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine.

The left-hander's plans to undergo surgery frustrated some of his teammates, according to a report in MLB.com that cited anonymous sources.

"I've been pitching through it for a couple of months," Wilson told MLB.com. "I've thrown 100 innings in this condition, and it's just consistently getting worse."

Wilson owns an 8-8 record and a 3.89 ERA in 21 starts. He leads the Angels with 132 innings pitched, 118 hits allowed, 59 runs allowed and 46 walks while ranking second with 110 strikeouts.

McFarland returns to lengthen Orioles' bullpen

                        Aug 05, 2015

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Left-hander T.J. McFarland continued racking up frequent flyer miles Tuesday when the Orioles recalled him from Triple-A Norfolk for the fifth time this season.

McFarland gives manager Buck Showalter a seventh relief pitcher and a third lefty in the bullpen. He pitched two scoreless innings Tuesday in Baltimore's 5-0 loss to Oakland, striking out two and allowing one hit.

He is 0-1 with a 2.35 ERA in 13 major league relief appearances this season. Last year, McFarland went 4-2 with 2.76 ERA in 37 games. In 2013, he went 4-1 with a 4.22 ERA in 38 appearances.

"He pounds the zone, sinks it," Showalter said before Tuesday's game. "He's a good addition for us. We've been trying to figure out a way to make it fit all year. It's been a challenge. He did a job for us the last couple years, really last year, that we need done."

To make room for McFarland on the 25-man roster, Baltimore optioned rookie right-hander Tyler Wilson to Norfolk. Wilson was called up Monday to make a spot start for injured right-hander Chris Tillman, and he threw a gem, allowing two runs over 7 2/3 innings in a 9-2 victory over Oakland.

Showalter said he didn't decide to send Wilson down until he checked on Tillman's left ankle to make sure the veteran hadn't experienced a setback in his recovery.

"He still feels good from (Monday) throwing," Showalter said of Tillman. "He's going to try to work (Wednesday) and work off the mound with some moving around, but that could be Thursday, could be on an off day, could be Friday. We're going to start with it being (Wednesday). He feels a little better. But if he had had a setback at all, we probably would have held Tyler.

"But we feel like Chris will be able to start by (Tuesday), which is really what you have to ask yourself. I want Tyler to keep the ball in his hands. He'll be pitching Sunday for (Norfolk). Mac helps us in the bullpen."

If Tillman can't start by Tuesday, the Orioles would have to add another starter.

                                Wednesday, August 5

Jungmann has become a top tier under pitcher

In Taylor Jungmann's past seven starts, the over/under has gone 1-5-1 thanks to his excellent pitching. Those seven appearances have seen the rightie allow a mere 1.3 runs allowed per game.

Jungmann is now the eighth best under pitcher in baseball, with a minimum of five starts on the season, with a 2-7 O/U mark.

The Brew Crew host the Padres Wednesday with the total currently listed at 7.5.

Kazmir coming off historically good July

Scott Kazmir pitched like a man possessed in July, which lead to his teams going 4-1 with an over/under of 1-4.

Kazmir posted a ridiculous 0.26 ERA while allowing opponents to bat .134 over his five starts last month. Those five starts saw the leftie surrender one earned run.

The Astros are currently -156 with a total of 9.5 when they visit the Texas Rangers Wednesday.

Hitters wind, chance of thunderstorms at Yankee Stadium

Weather could have an affect on your bets for tonight's clash between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

There will be a hitters wind of about 10 miles per hour blowing out to the short porch in right field. There will also be a chance of thunderstorms in the area, with a 20 percent chance of rain that should dissipate throughout the evening.

The Yankees, currently -193 favorites, send Luis Severino to the mound to make his first career start against the Red Sox's Stephen Wright. Then total is currently at 9.0.

Cardinals continue to be the best under team

In their past 13 contests, the St. Louis Cardinals have a 2-10-1 over/under record. The Cards have plated an average of 3.2 runs per game while allowing 2.7 in their past 13.

St. Louis is easily the top under in the MLB with a 39-63-4 O/U, which means they have six more unders than any other team in baseball.

Currently, the total when the Cards visit the Reds is 7.5.
