Tokarski to start for Canadiens Thursday

The Montreal Canadiens will turn to backup Dustin Tokarski in nets when they host the Edmonton Oilers Thursday. In Tokarski's first 10 starts this season, he has posted a 5-4-1 record with a 2.55 goals against average and .916 save percentage.

Currently, the Habs are -235 with the total at 5.5.

Bobby Ryan, Ottawa - Ques Thurs

Ryan missed Tuesday's game due to general soreness and is questionable Thursday against the Penguins.

Penguins unable to rebound with no rest

The Pittsburgh Penguins have had 10 games this season when they have played with no rest and they have gone a mere 2-8 in those contests, including dropping their past six.

The Penguins have been outscored 36-19 in those 10 contests and have been shutout in the past two.

The Penguins will visit Ottawa Thursday after playing Wednesday night.

NHL roundup: Penguins cool off Red Wings

PITTSBURGH -- Blake Comeau had a goal and an assist in his return from a 20-game absence as the Pittsburgh Penguins shook their scoring slump and cooled off the Detroit Red Wings with a 4-1 victory on Wednesday night.

Comeau was activated from the injured reserve list before the game after not playing since Dec. 22 because of a wrist injury. The left winger raised his season goal total to 12, and the Penguins are 8-0-2 when he scores.

Right winger Patric Hornqvist also had a goal and assist for the Penguins, who won for the third time in four games. Left winger David Perron and center Nick Spaling scored Pittsburgh's other goals.

Center Stephen Weiss scored the Red Wings' lone goal in the second period.

    Canucks 5, Blackhawks 4

CHICAGO -- Left winger Daniel Sedin scored two goals, including the winner at 1:20 in overtime, as Vancouver eeked out a victory over struggling Chicago.

Right winger Linden Vey, center Bo Horvat and right winger Zack Kassian also scored for Vancouver.

Chicago got two goals by right winger Marian Hossa, and one each from right winger Patrick Kane and left winger Brandon Saad.

    Capitals 5, Sharks 4 (OT)

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Right winger Joel Ward's 12th goal of the season on a putback in front at 2:42 enabled Washington to beat San Jose.

The Sharks lost all three games of their homestand and fell for the fifth time in six games. San Jose center Joe Thornton tied the game at 14:29 of the third period with his 12th goal of the season on a shot from the bottom of the right circle over the glove of Washington goalie Braden Holtby.

Capitals center Jay Beagle scored twice, including a goal that tied the game 3-3 in the third period. Sharks defenseman Brent Burns scored two second-period goals.

      Armadillo: Friday's six-pack

Six of the best minor league prospects for the Chicago Cubs........

      1) Kris Bryant, 3B-- .327 hitter with 52 HRs in 620 minor league ABs.

      2) Addison Russell, SS-- Acquired by Cubs in Samardzija trade.

      3) Jorge Soler, OF-- Cuban defector got a $30M contract.

      4) Kyle Schwarber, C/OF-- His Indiana team was first Big 14 team to make it to the College World Series since Barry Larkin's Michigan team in 1984.

      5) CJ Edwards, P-- Allowed 30 hits in 48 IP in ten AA starts.

      22) Erik Jokisch, P-- One of five Northwestern alums to pitch in bigs LY.

      **********

Armadillo: Friday's List of 13: Random stuff with weekend here......

      13) So Carmelo Anthony is going to play in the All-Star Game Sunday night, then he'll blow off the rest of the season and get his knee scoped; Anthony didn't play for the Knicks Monday or Wednesday, but a stupid exhibition game? He's all in.

Knicks are paying Anthony $22,458,000 this season, but don't seem to mind that he is more interested in the freakin' All-Star Game than regular season games. If he is hurt, then the knee should already have been taken care of, to ensure that he is ready for next season. If they're subtly tanking games, they should be embarrassed, because there is no one at the top of this draft who is that much of a difference maker.

Knicks are an awful team, 10-30 when Anthony plays, 0-13 when he does not. How did he get on the All-Star team to begin with? He has sat out 24.5% of their games.

      12) College hoop will probably wind up with a 30-second shot clock, as opposed to the current 35-second clock. Don't think it'll make a big difference; I do think forcing teams to get the ball over halfcourt in 7 seconds instead of ten would prevent teams from walking the ball up and pick up the pace of action. NBA's rule right now is :08.

      11) Rashad Vaughn, UNLV's best player, is probably done for the year after hurting his knee Tuesday night; he hurt the same knee in high school last year. Big blow for a Rebel team that had been playing a lot better the last five games.

      10) Missouri hoop coach Kim Anderson was flying on a recruiting trip Wednesday night when one of the engines on his plane gave out and the plane had to make an emergency landing near St Louis. Thankfully, pilots landed the plane safely. Coaches fly a lot on small planes to make in-season recruiting trips.

      9) Golfer Billy Horschel won $10M last year when he won the Fed Ex Cup; turns out he gave his caddy $1M of it, which is unusually generous.

      8) John Daly is less than two years from going on the Senior Tour, where he should win a lot, seeing as he can still compete with the younger guys. Daly should help the Senior Tour; people still like to watch him play.

      7) Golfer Padraig Harrington is a licensed accountant; wonder if he does other golfers' taxes? Harrington won the PGA in 2008 but hasn't won in America since.

      6) PGA rookie Max Homa once won the pro-am part of a tourney on the Web.com Tour; his partner was actress Janet Jones Gretzky, wife of the Great One; she is not only really pretty, she loves to gamble. Its good to be the Great One.

      5) As far as this Little League cheating stuff goes, I'll say this: kids from broken homes wind up with parents living in different places; they have a dad in one town, a mom in another, aunts/uncles/grandparents and sometimes there is a creative use of a relative's address, so the kid can go to school or play ball where he/she prefers.

      4) I can think of two high school basketball scenarios around here where addresses were used creatively so that a kid could play ball where he wanted to. One was the dad living in a suburb, the mom in the city, but that one got quashed. The suburban school district actually had detectives watching where the kid went after school.

The other one was a dad using his business, renting an apartment, then using that apartment as his son's "address" so he could play basketball for a different school in a bordering town for a better coach. So the kid drove to School B every day, usually passing the athletic director from School A on his way. Nothing was done.

      3) Not sure what Jesse Jackson is trying to prove by objecting to all this; the team from Chicago cheated, they got caught, but so what?

They still had the thrill of winning, that can't be taken away. The kids on other teams in the tournament got cheated and naming another team "champion" isn't going to make them any happier. The actual crime isn't cheating, it is getting caught.

      2) Kid named Scott Meredith from Hargraves Military Academy made 18 of 24 from behind the arc Wednesday night; he scored 55 points-- he got fouled on one of the 3-point shots. His team won 131-80; not sure what the other team was doing.

      1) Vermont made 16-21 from the arc as a team against Mass-Lowell the other night; even after that display, Catamounts are making only 35% from the arc this season.

Game of the Day: Bruins at Canucks
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Boston Bruins at Vancouver Canuck (-110, 5)

The Boston Bruins answered an 8-1-1 stretch by winning just one of their last four contests, causing coach Claude Julien to stress the importance of being focused as the team opens a five-game road trip against the Vancouver Canucks on Friday. "On this road trip, people talk about bonding and talk about this and that - right now, it's more about going out there and doing our jobs game in and game out," Julien said. The Bruins didn't do much of that during their three-game homestand, registering two-goal losses to both rival Montreal and Dallas to conclude the run.

Zack Kassian has been doing his job of late, scoring in each of his last three contests on the heels of a 21-game goal drought. Kassian is riding a four-game point streak for the Canucks, who have alternated wins and losses over the last seven contests. Captain Henrik Sedin has recorded eight points in that stretch and twin brother Daniel has seven, highlighted by the former assisting the latter on his second goal 1:20 into overtime in a 5-4 triumph over Chicago on Wednesday.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), RSNP (Vancouver)

LINE HISTORY: Lines open at VAN -110 with a total of 5.

INJURY REPORT: Bruins - N/A Canucks - C Nick Bonino (Ques-Lower Body), RW Brad Richardson (Ques-Ankle)

ABOUT THE BRUINS (28-19-7 SU, 19-25-10 O/U): Milan Lucic had an assist in both Boston's 3-1 setback to the Canadiens on Sunday and a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the Stars two nights later. The Vancouver native doesn't have fond memories of his last trip back home with the Bruins, getting into a verbal and physical altercation outside a nightclub before later ripping the city and vowing never to return other than to play at Rogers Arena. While he has since apologized for that stance, Lucic recorded a goal and an assist in Boston's 3-1 home victory over the Canucks in the last meeting and has two and three, respectively, in six career encounters.

ABOUT THE CANUCKS (30-20-3 SU, 23-25-2 O/U): Ryan Miller looks to atone for a porous performance in a 5-3 setback to Minnesota on Monday when he makes his 600th career appearance with his next outing. The 34-year-old has dropped five of his last seven decisions overall, but has gotten up close and personal with Lucic dating back to the goaltender's time with Buffalo. Christopher Higgins has recorded three assists in the last two games and was one of six different Canucks to score in the Canucks' 6-3 win over Boston in the last meeting in Vancouver.

          TRENDS:

*Canucks are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. Eastern Conference.
*Under is 7-2-1 in Bruins last 10 overall.
*Over is 4-0-2 in Canucks last 6 games playing on 1 days rest.
*Home team is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.

CONSENSUS: 54.38 percent of users are on the Canucks

Preview: Flyers (23-22) at Blue Jackets (23-26)

              Date: February 13, 2015 7:00 PM EDT

Philadelphia Flyers winger Jakub Voracek has finally become the star that the Columbus Blue Jackets envisioned he would develop into when they drafted him in the first round in 2007.

He's still searching for his first win as a visitor against his first NHL team, though he shined the last time he played at Nationwide Arena.

Voracek will be one of several former Blue Jackets on the ice for the Flyers when they try to end a five-game slide at Columbus on Friday night.

The Blue Jackets (23-26-3) made Voracek the seventh overall selection in 2007, and he was part of the franchise's first playoff appearance as a rookie in 2008-09. But he clashed with former Columbus coach Scott Arniel and was traded to the Flyers on June 23, 2011.

Playing on a line with star captain Claude Giroux, Voracek is tied for second in the NHL with 59 points - three shy of his career high set last season. He has 12 points in eight games against his former team with five in three meetings this season, though Philadelphia (23-22-9) is 0-2-1 in his visits to Nationwide Arena.

Voracek last played there in the NHL All-Star game Jan. 25, tallying six points to match an event record set by Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux in 1988.

He'll be joined on the ice by former Blue Jackets R.J. Umberger and Nick Schultz.

Umberger began his career with Philadelphia and then played for Columbus over the previous six seasons before he was dealt to the Flyers in the offseason for Scott Hartnell. Schultz played nine games for the Blue Jackets last season after he was acquired from Edmonton.

"It was a great experience here, it's a good group of guys here in Columbus," Schultz said. "They work hard, it's a really hard-working team."

One former Columbus player who won't be available is goaltender Steve Mason, who suffered a bizarre injury during a timeout in Sunday's 3-1 victory at Washington that resulted in knee surgery.

That means Ray Emery will likely get the nod. Emery has surrendered 10 goals in losing both career starts at Columbus, where the Flyers are 0-4-1 in five visits after going 2-0-0 with two ties in their first four.

The Blue Jackets will start Curtis McElhinney, who is 3-1-0 with a 3.27 goals-against average in four starts against Philadelphia.

Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn feels confident he will return after he sat out Tuesday's 2-1 overtime loss at Montreal with an upper-body injury.

"I feel pretty good and felt surprisingly pretty good waking up this morning and in practice," Schenn told the Flyers' official website. "So I should be fine and ready to go tomorrow."

The Blue Jackets failed to win their third straight Monday with a 4-3 home defeat to Los Angeles. Hartnell scored for the third straight game, and he has six points in a four-game run.

"Those one-goal games mean a lot when you lose them and you want to be on the other side of it," forward Matt Calvert told the Blue Jackets' official website. "It's tough to play desperate everyday, but we got ourselves into this hole and it's our jobs to get ourselves out of it."

These teams are among the NHL's best on the power play, with the Flyers at 23.6 percent and Blue Jackets at 22.8.

Preview: Devils (21-24) at Blackhawks (33-18)

                Date: February 13, 2015 8:30 PM EDT

The Chicago Blackhawks have enjoyed the NHL's best home-ice advantage over the last five years, but that edge has evaporated.

Chicago tries to avoid a third straight home loss Friday night against the New Jersey Devils.

The Blackhawks (33-18-4) have dropped four of six, including the first two beyond regulation on a season-high eight-game homestand. They came back from a 3-1 deficit Wednesday against Vancouver with two goals in the final 2:11 to force overtime, including Marian Hossa's second of the game with 55 seconds remaining, then gave up the winner 1:20 into the extra period.

Chicago had been 9-2 past regulation, but its fortunes may be evening out.

"Whether it's desperation or urgency, we kind of came alive there at the end," defenseman Duncan Keith said. "We're a tough team to play against when we get our backs against the wall, but you never want to let it get like that."

The Blackhawks, who are a league-best 141-50-23 at home since 2009-10, are 4-4-2 at the United Center following a 12-3-1 start, however. Jonathan Toews has one goal in his last 10 home games after scoring seven in his first 16.

"We play well at home traditionally and consistently finding a way to get points is what we're all about at home," coach Joel Quenneville said. "But we have to look to take advantage starting (Friday) night."

Hossa has scored twice in three straight games for the first time in his career after scoring twice in his previous 15 games.

"It's feeling good when the puck's going in for you," Hossa said. "Just try to put a puck at the net - that's my goal right now - and good things happen. That's what I try to do."

Since joining the Blackhawks in 2009-10, Hossa has only one goal in six games against the Devils but does have five assists. He assisted on Keith's game-tying goal in a 3-2 shootout win at New Jersey on Dec. 9, Chicago's sixth victory in eight meetings.

The Devils (21-24-9) have also dropped two straight after Monday's 2-1 home loss to Edmonton, which owns the fewest wins in the NHL. They recorded exactly 14 shots for the third time in six games and rank 29th in the league with 23.9 shots per game. Chicago outshot New Jersey 39-24 in the first meeting and its plus-5.1 shots per game differential is second in the NHL, while the Devils rank 29th at minus-6.6.

"It's up to us to figure this out," said goaltender Cory Schneider, who is 4-1-1 with a 1.56 goals-against average over his last seven games. "For sure, the last two games have been a setback for us, but we have no one to blame but ourselves. No one is going to come and bail us out."

Schneider will get the start looking to improve on a 3.44 career GAA versus Chicago.

The Devils, averaging 19.8 shots in six road games since New Year's Eve, are 4-10-2 in their last 16 away from New Jersey. Adam Henrique and Jaromir Jagr are tied for second on the team with 11 goals but Jagr has one goal in his last 15 road contests while Henrique hasn't scored in his last 10.

Preview: Panthers (24-18) at Stars (25-21)

                  Date: February 13, 2015 8:30 PM EDT

No goaltender has faced more shots than the Dallas Stars' Kari Lehtonen.

Not far behind him in that category is new teammate Jhonas Enroth.

One of those goalies will start Friday night with the possibility open that Enroth will make his Stars debut in this home matchup with the Florida Panthers.

Dallas (25-21-8) is the NHL's second-highest scoring team with 3.15 goals per game behind Tyler Seguin, who is tied for third in the league with 29 goals and tied for second with 59 points.

The problem has been defensively. Lehtonen has faced 1,370 shots, and was forced to make 41 saves in Tuesday's 5-3 victory at Boston.

The Stars made a move to help take the load off their top goaltender Wednesday by acquiring Enroth from Buffalo in exchange for goalie Anders Lindback and a third-round 2016 pick.

Enroth faced 1,237 shots for a Sabres team that has surrendered the most in the league. His last Buffalo victory came Saturday when he beat the Stars with a 38-save effort, and he's excited about joining a team that is in the hunt for the playoffs.

"I am very excited to go to a team that actually wanted me and traded for me so it's nice to feel wanted I guess," Enroth said. "We're only a couple of points out of the playoffs here so we have a couple of real big games coming up."

Enroth previously played for coach Lindy Ruff when both were with the Sabres. Ruff is excited to be reunited with him.

"He's been in the biggest games, and we're going to have a lot of big games down the stretch," Ruff said. "I just think he is tested. I think his game has grown. He's faced a ton of rubber this year."

The Stars are entering a back-to-back set with a trip to Colorado on Saturday. Ruff said he will give Enroth the start in one of these games.

Lehtonen is 1-5-0 with a 4.12 goals-against average in his last six starts against the Panthers while Enroth is 2-1-1 with a 1.47 GAA in four career starts versus them.

Dallas will be without forward Antoine Roussel, who was suspended two games for a hit under the chin of Boston's Adam McQuaid that led to his ejection Tuesday.

Seguin missed practice due to the flu Thursday, though Ruff indicated his star will play. Veteran winger Travis Moen is likely to return from a five-game absence due to a lower-body injury.

Florida (24-18-11) comes to town without center Brandon Pirri and defenseman Willie Mitchell, both out with upper-body injuries.

The Panthers are also in need of points as they trail Boston by four in the race for the East's final playoff spot. They opened a back-to-back set with Thursday's 2-1 defeat at Minnesota in which Minneapolis native Nick Bjugstad scored their lone goal.

'Every game is important. We would have liked to have gotten it to overtime, but we didn't,' said goalie Roberto Luongo, who made 21 saves. 'We've got another one tomorrow, so the key is to put this one behind us.'

It's unclear if Luongo will start a second straight night or give way to backup Al Montoya.

Florida has captured the last three meetings.

Preview: Sharks (28-20) at Coyotes (20-28)

                    Date: February 13, 2015 9:00 PM EDT

The San Jose Sharks realize they aren't going to keep every puck out of the net, but the fact that they've surrendered goals so easily and frequently during their latest slide is troubling.

Clinging to a guaranteed playoff spot in the Pacific Division, the Sharks look to avoid a season high-tying fourth consecutive defeat when they visit the Arizona Coyotes on Friday night.

San Jose (28-20-8) has produced at least four goals four times while totaling 19 in its last six, but it's gone 1-3-2 in that stretch, giving up five goals three times and 14 during the three-game skid.

Joe Thornton sent Wednesday's matchup with Washington into overtime with a goal late in the third, but the Capitals scored in the extra period for a 5-4 win.

Brent Burns scored twice and Logan Couture added a goal and an assist for the Sharks, whose 36 non-shootout goals allowed in 11 games since Jan. 17 are among the most in the NHL.

"Seems like every game the other team is scoring some pretty easy goals," Couture said. "We're not making it tough. It's on the defense, it's on the forward playing low to be harder around our net. (Antti Niemi is) making the first save and they're scoring on the (rebound). We've got to be getting sticks and being a lot stronger around our own net."

San Jose is in playoff position in the Pacific, but it's also played more games than any of the postseason contenders in the division.

Niemi has started both meetings with the Coyotes this season, losing 4-3 in a shootout Nov. 22 and earning a 3-2 victory Jan. 13. He's 7-0-3 with a 1.73 goals-against average in his last 10 starts against Arizona, which also is looking to end a slump.

The Coyotes (20-28-7) have dropped three of four after falling 2-1 to St. Louis on Tuesday. Mike Smith had another solid effort with 34 saves and has given up two or fewer goals in six of his past seven starts, showing signs of returning to form in a season in which his 3.22 GAA and .897 save percentage are the worst of his career.

"Physically, he's our best athlete," general manager Don Maloney said in a radio interview. "He's big. He's mobile. When Mike is on a high he's as good as anybody in the league."

Smith has gone 7-1-2 with a 1.46 GAA in the last 10 matchups with the Sharks, including both meetings this season.

The Coyotes claimed forward Marco Arcobello off waivers from Pittsburgh on Wednesday to help overcome the loss of center Martin Hanzal, who has missed the last seven and will have back surgery that likely will end his season.

Arcobello, who has eight goals and seven assists in 50 games while also playing with Edmonton and Nashville, will be the third player in history to suit up for four different teams in one season. He'll switch back to the middle after playing on the wing with the Penguins.

"I'm really comfortable playing center," Arcobello told the team's official website. "I try to be a responsible two-way player that can chip in offensively at times."

The Sharks have won three straight meetings in Arizona.

Preview: Bruins (28-19) at Canucks (30-20)

                      Date: February 13, 2015 10:00 PM EDT

Coming off back-to-back defeats, the Boston Bruins are hoping to step up their play on what they're expecting to be a grueling five-game road trip that begins Friday night against the Vancouver Canucks.

Boston (28-19-7) will also visit Calgary, Edmonton, St. Louis and Chicago, with all but the Western Conference-worst Oilers sitting in playoff contention. The Bruins, who are 4-1-1 in their last six away from home, are clinging to the East's second wild-card spot.

"This road trip - people talk about bonding and this and that, but I think right now, it's more about, let's go out there and do our jobs, game in, game out," coach Claude Julien told the team's official website. "It's Vancouver that we need to be focused on right now - not Calgary, not Edmonton, or St. Louis, Chicago.

"Let's focus on really what we have to do, here, because if we can get ourselves a good start, it will make a big difference."

The Bruins had won eight of 10 before managing eight goals during a 1-3-0 stretch. They fell 3-1 to Montreal on Sunday before closing a three-game homestand with Tuesday's 5-3 loss to Dallas.

"Sometimes, a change of scenery is good," said forward Milan Lucic, who has seven points in the last seven games. "We've been a pretty good home team, other than the last two games, but it's always exciting to head out West and have a change of scenery."

The Bruins have dropped two of three to the Canucks since beating them in seven games in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final. Boston took the last matchup 3-1 on Feb. 4, 2014, behind a goal and an assist from Lucic.

"To me, if we can get that intensity and that commitment carrying into our games, we're going to be OK," Julien said. "We've hit a bump here, and I don't want it to be any longer than it already has been, so we need to up our intensity and our commitment and go out there and know it's going to be a tough battle."

The Canucks (30-20-3) return home in high spirits after pulling out a 5-4 overtime win over Chicago on Wednesday. Vancouver blew a two-goal lead over the final 2:11 in regulation before Henrik Sedin assisted on brother Daniel's goal 1:20 into OT.

"The twins made the magic happen once again and that was a big goal for them," fellow forward Alexandre Burrows said.

Daniel Sedin finished with two goals, giving him four to go with three assists over the last seven games. Henrik Sedin has eight assists during that stretch.

Eddie Lack stopped 37 shots against the Blackhawks, but the Canucks could turn back to the struggling Ryan Miller. Miller has a 3.31 goals-against average in dropping five of seven starts, and he's allowed five goals in two of his last three with a 31-save shutout against Pittsburgh in between.

Miller went 26-9-7 with a 2.56 GAA against the Bruins while with Buffalo, tied for his second-most wins against any opponent.

Tuukka Rask made 27 saves against the Canucks last February for his first win in three career meetings. He's 4-1-2 with a 1.67 GAA in seven road starts in 2015.

Daniel and Henrik Sedin have been limited to 12 and eight points in 21 games apiece against Boston, including the postseason.

Leafs winless on the road in 2015

The Toronto Maple Leafs' descension into the bottom of the Eastern Conference has been well documented this season, but their struggles on the road since are reaching even uglier levels.

Since the beginning of 2015, the Leafs are 0-12 away from the Air Canada Center. During that span, they've allowed 65 goals while finding the twine just 13 times.

Toronto will be away from home once again Saturday evening when they travel to Montreal for a date with the arch rival Canadiens. The Habs are currently healthy -225 moneyline faves for the affair.

Enroth expected to make Stars debut vs. Panthers

It appears the Dallas Stars will get their first look at newly-acquired netminder Jhonas Enroth Saturday versus the Florida Panthers.

Enroth, who came to Dallas in a trade with Buffalo earlier this week, went 13-21-2 with a .903 save percentage and 3.27 GAA in 37 appearances for the cellar-dwelling Buffalo Sabres this season.

At the time of writing, the line for the game was off the board.
