[QUOTE=grandmama;1760190]you carry the party line whatever the cost. anyone that has a brain would realize that it would be political suicide not to help down there. wake up jamica. bet life is good when your eyes are closed.[/QUOTE

We all agree that life is importat but why is it that we run all over the world and throw money at other peoples problems but we fail to help our own people? We help others but we take money from the people here in order to do so.

Our government is about finding the best way to spend our money, put more money in their own pockets, and stay in office as long as possible before moving on to another job that will pay them a crazy amount of money.

If anyone is so quick to help out all these other countries, why don't you donate money to people and organizations that are designed to help people HERE? I would have much more compassion and desire to help elsewhere if we would take care of more of our own first. But here the government looks for more ways to take more of our money instead of helping us out.

What happened in Haiti is awful BUT GOD DAMN, there are still people in New Orleans living in make shift shacks. When was the last time we sent people to help them????

All these Countries offer 1 Million or 5 Million and we give 100 Million. WTF ... Seriously, we are up to our ears in debt and ALL OF US are going to suffer from it. Why can't we give 5 Million like others? I'm so fuckin frustrated with this Country and it's path right now ... Seriously, it sickens me!

Exactly! We have our own damn issues to worry about right now. Not saying we totally turn our back to it, but shit, let's get some things going right here first.

Remember the Tsunami, USA lined up big time as always. American doctors trying to help were turned away by Muslim countries. We give, give, give and we are hated around the world.

Wayne, this is kinda what I said in my previous post. I just heard a report this weekend talking about how we have raised more money for Haiti than we gave to new orleans. It is very sick And while I know people have more compassion than I do, I still will care more about this country than I do about others and I don't feel bad about it.

So if you want to scream at someone about not feeling compassionate about other countries, give money to your local shelter, food pantry, or help center that goes to people here. We should work on all the problems we have here instead of just running all of these ads and campaigns once something happens outside of the US. Simply ridiculous and whats even more ridiculous is that there are people who go out of their way to help, above and beyond, but do nothing for those here. And then yell at us for actually thinking logically about OUR country. Ya, silly us.

Do you realize what we could've done with the money we wasted on this "war"? There's no price to put on helping a with a major disaster with 100,000 lost lives. Bombing a country and killing a 100,000 innocent civilians for trillions of dollars doesn't upset you, but helping in this situation does?

I really despise stupid people. What party line am I carrying? All I posted was that imo I think at least one person in the administration has given thought to the politics of helping. Not that anyone thought of not helping. If there is no politics in it, and this is only done for humanitarian means, that I guess the President will make NO mention of the help in any speeches right? You are just a poster on BC and think it would be "political suicide" to not help. So you don't think one person in the administration has had any "political" thoughts? How naive.

CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez on Sunday accused the United States of using the earthquake in Haiti as a pretext to occupy the devastated Caribbean country and offered to send fuel from his OPEC nation.

                    World | Natural Disasters

"I read that 3,000 soldiers are arriving, Marines armed as if they were going to war. There is not a shortage of guns there, my God. Doctors, medicine, fuel, field hospitals, that's what the United States should send," Chavez said on his weekly television show. "They are occupying Haiti undercover."

"On top of that, you don't see them in the streets. Are they picking up bodies? ... Are they looking for the injured? You don't see them. I haven't seen them. Where are they?"

Chavez promised to send as much gasoline as Haiti needs for electricity generation and transport.

A perennial foe of U.S. "imperialism," Chavez said he did not wish to diminish the humanitarian effort made by the United States and was only questioning the need for so many troops.

The United States is sending more than 5,000 Marines and soldiers to Haiti, and a hospital ship is due to arrive later this week.

The country's president said U.S. troops would help keep order on Haiti's increasingly lawless streets.

Venezuela has sent several planes to Haiti with doctors, aid and some soldiers. A Russia-Venezuela mission was set to leave Venezuela on Monday carrying aid on Russian planes.

Chavez said Venezuela's planes were the first to land in Haiti after Tuesday's 7.0 magnitude earthquake, which wrecked the capital Port-Au-Prince and killed as many as 200,000 people.

Chavez is a hero to the lefties here in the USA.

everyone knows where you stand in regards to politics. IMO, one would have to be a boob not to realize that sending aid is the only thing to do.Of course someone in the administration talked about it. They talk about everything. I'm sure it didn't take them long to come to the conclusion that the right thing to do was to send aid right away. By the way, the only thing you bring to this forum is: nothing. All you do is try to bait people into internet fights. I'm sure it won't be too long until you bring Obama's race up again. can't wait to see what talking point/ sound bite you spew next.

We have a trilion dollar debt and we just give 100 million to a country that will never get better by our money and compassion. The only way to make places better is to allow the charitable industry to do their best work. Give to your private charities and stop allowing government to try and be the biggest charity on earth. It's become the disaster lottery. If you get blasted by a natural disaster The "Daily US" is ready to come in with more money than you have any idea how to use. So corruption and greed set in. Haiti is going to be WORSE than it was before this disaster because sooner or later the money is going to dry up and they will have gotten used to sucking at the teat of US government.

The sad thing to me is that if we treated our debt like the lenders in our own country we would not allow them to offer the lines of credit we are leveraging now. We would call them predatory lenders and make them change their ways or put them out of business. Sometimes I just want to sit back and bitch slap people for not using their brains. Stop allowing your emotional response to overcome your mental capacities.
