      Wow

Sitting in your own home behind locked doors isn't even safe. I can't imagine going through that trauma.

At least two people were killed and 11 others wounded in violence across Chicago overnight, most of the victims from just two shootings on the West and South sides, according to police.

Suspects were being questioned in one of the shootings, the killing of a man near his home on the Far South Side, officials said.

About four hours later, four people were standing in a parking lot in the 4100 block of West Roosevelt Road when a black car drove up and gunfire rang out.

                August 24, 2012

Nineteen people were shot across the South and West sides from Thursday evening through early Friday morning -- 13 of them wounded over a 30-minute period, authorities say.

The overnight shootings peaked between 9:15 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. That's when eight people, many of them teens, were shot at 79th Street and Essex Avenue about 9:30 p.m.

Then two men were wounded in the Ida B. Wells / Darrow Homes complex at about 9:25 p.m., police said. The men, 27 and 33, were shot in the 600 block of East 37th Street and taken to the University of Chicago Hospitals, police said. The younger man was shot in the head and the other in the right arm, Gaines said.

Around the same time, two other men were wounded in the arms in a drive-by shooting in the 2900 block of West 39th Place in the Brighton Park neighborhood.

About 15 minutes later, a 24-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken to Jackson Park Hospital from the 7200 block of South Jeffery Boulevard, Gaines said. He was treated and released. The man told police he was talking on his phone when he heard a single shot and realized he was wounded.

Earlier Thursday evening, four men were wounded in a shooting in the Little Village neighborhood about 5:20 p.m. Thursday, police said.

They were walking in the 3200 block of South Kedzie Avenue when at least one person inside a vehicle with three others opened fire, police said, hitting the group. Three 19-year-olds and a 22-year-old were wounded.

Just after midnight, a 17-year-old was shot in the back and taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said. He was walking in the 7100 block of South Vincennes Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood when someone inside a passing car opened fire, police said.

Another 17-year-old was shot after 1:30 a.m. Friday in the 3500 block of West Grenshaw Street in the Homan Square neighborhood. He's in good condition at Mount Sinai Hospital. Someone walked to him and started shooting, police said.

Both the man, 23, and the woman, 25, were shot in the leg and taken to Stroger Hospital in “stable” condition, police said. The woman suffered gunshot wounds to both legs, police said.

The shooting happened a couple blocks from the United Center and close to the Suder Montessori Magnet School -- which serves students in preschool to 5th grade -- at Washington Boulevard and Damen Avenue.

The male victim has a gang affiliation and a criminal record, according to a law enforcement source.

2 Dead, 17 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

                      August 18, 2012 11:00 AM

CHICAGO (STMW) – Two men were killed and at least 17 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago late Friday into early Saturday.

The weekend’s first fatal shooting killed a 22-year-old Aurora man and wounded another person in the West Side Austin neighborhood, according to authorities.

Richard Johnson, of the 1600 block of Plum Street in Aurora, was killed in the shooting in the 500 block of South Kilpatrick Avenue at about 6:22 p.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

He was initially taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, where he later died, authorities said. Another man, whose age is unknown, was also injured in the shooting and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious condition.

An 18-year-old man was shot and killed just a block from his West Pullman home on the Far South Side about 12:15 a.m., authorities said. Derrick L. Baker, of the 11600 block of South Yale Avenue, was shot in the head near 115th street and Wentworth Avenue, according to the medical examiner’s office.

He was dead at the scene, officials said. The attack also wounded a 25-year-old man, who was treated at Roseland Hospital in “stable” condition for gunshot wounds to the knee and foot.

Shootings across the city left 15 other people wounded, mostly men in their late teens or early 20s who are listed in good or “stable” condition.

However, at least two men shot early Saturday remain in critical condition, and four other men were seriously wounded, according to authorities.

One, a 26-year-old man, was walking with another man to a store when they heard gunfire in the 3300 block of West Cullom Avenue, in the Northwest Side Irving Park community.

He was shot multiple times and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said. The other man, 21, was shot multiple times in the leg and is listed in “stable” condition at Swedish Covenant Hospital.

Another man is in critical condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak lawn after he and two other people were shot at 3:32 a.m. in the 6900 block of South Bishop Street, police said. The man, 23, was shot multiple times in the neck, arm and chest.

A 20-year-old man was shot in the arm and shoulder and taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, while a 17-year-old boy shot in the leg is listed in good condition at Christ Hospital, police said.

That teenager and another 17-year-old boy hurt in a separate attack were the weekend’s youngest shooting victims.

The other teen was shot in the foot at 12:46 a.m. while he was in the 2800 block of North Mason Avenue in the Belmont Craigin neighborhood on the city’s Northwest Side, police said. He was treated in good condition at Our Lady of the Resurrection Hospital.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings as of early Saturday.
