The fact is that a sizable portion of our population don't have the courage of their own convictions. In 2004, the war was the right thing to do (at least according to the majority of Americans). But, then it turned into a real war and it became apparent that we couldn't "shock and awe" it to an end. War sucks! I did two tours in Vietnam, lost countless good friends and just plain good men, and when I came back after the last tour, it was obvious that our citizens just don't have the stomach or the courage to win a war. Vietnam was a tragedy. The tragic thing is that tens of thousands of young men gave it all...and in the end, it was pointless. Look, I have my own problems with many aspects of the way the Bush Administration is waging the war, but damn it, we got in it and we need to finish it.

Regarding the war, I think the thing that pisses me off the most is the liberal revisionist history (same old tired song). "We've opposed it from the start"...Funny how in March of 2003, over 70% of Americans thought it was the right thing to do and supported it....

But the Repubs could see they were going to get smoked in the general election so what do they do? They nominate the most liberal Repub out there and sit back and watch the Dem's beat themselves to death.

NOW, you got BIG DEM's like my buddy jcheckers here saying that they are voting for an Independant!!!!

THE 4-5 TRILLION(AND RUNNING) DOLLAR WASTED WAR HAS BANKRUPTED THIS COUNTRY AND PUSHED US INTO A RECESSION WHERE ONLY COMPANIES INVOLVED IN DEFENSE STOCKS AND OIL STOCKS ARE TURNING PROFITS.......MAKES YOU WONDER DOESNT IT?

YOU MUST BE ONE OF THESE RICH CEO TYPES MAKING OVER 300,000 OR MORE. THE MAJORITY OF HARDWORKING AMERICANS(LIKE ME) ARE TRYING TO DECIDE HOW TO PAY FOR EDUCATION, MORTGAGES, PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE, AND MAKE IT TO WORK.

ENJOY SPENDING YOUR MONEY WHILE THE RICH ARE GETTING RICHER AND MIDDLE CLASS AND LOWER MIDDLE CLASS ARE GETTING SQUEEZED BY BUSHECONOMICS.

AND DONT WORRY THE 80 YEAR GEORGE BUSH WILL WIN ANYWAY AND IN 4 YEARS OUR COUNTRY WILL BE TOTALLY BANKRUPTED AND ALL OUR JOBS WILL BE OVERSEAS ANYWAY.
Actually, Muscleman, I'm a route driver for a milk company so no, I'm not a CEO making over $300k. Your response is what I've come to expect from Democrats, deflection and misdirection. I gave you a ton of insight into the state of America when the last President with Obama-like ideas on economics was in office. When confronted with facts and logical arguments, those who have taken a position that cannot be reasonably defended, will always resort to redirecting the discussion. I know you have bought into the DNCs BS that McCain reps a third Bush term, but the truth is GWB is not running for President. If you have some kind of sensible argument against McCain then you should make it...not go on ranting about Bush and Cheney. Yours is certainly not a minority opinion out there. But, damn, what a sad situation when a guy is going to be elected President not for any reason other than "we need a change". Why can't the Obama supporters present any good compelling reasons why the man should be the leader of the free world? That's only rhetorical...I know why they can't.

I would challenge you to do something probably a little alien to yourself and actually do some studying on the similarities between Carter and Obama on the economic front. Then come back and try to convince the rest of us why we should support Obama. But no...just as the Demo machine wants you to believe...ANYTHING would be better than Bush, right. Well let me tell you, in the late 70s things were a helluva lot tougher on us working folks than it was on the wealthy. Oh, and nice dodge on responding to my post about Carter without mentioning it. Whatever you do, don't let the facts get in your way.

Regardless of what the numbers were, that 70% is now 70% for getting out, and 30% for staying in. Just like the Tet offensive changed the view of the Vietnam War, the bodies hanging from the bridge in Falluja helped change America's view on Iraq. You know the Government fucked up in Vietnam just like they are fucking up in Iraq. Ever see Robert McNamara's The Fog of War? You should watch it if you ever get the chance. I'm sure the true secrets of Iraq will come out someday as well.

I'm voting for Obama and he will win. Once he does the economy will start to pick up...we will eventually be out of Iraq and my gas will not cost me $4 a gallon. Obama will probably do nothing but the economy will get better because of people's and Wall Street's expectations that Obama and a new party will make for a better America. Will he? God only knows. Most politicians are frauds anyway.

Great posts MM....You are right on the money. No need to expand on it. To compare Carter to Obama is idiotic. Comparing Obama to Clinton is a closer match.

This guy fails to realize that Reagan's term ended in a near depression and full blown recession, and Bush's term will end with him as one of the worse president's in our countries history. Anyone thinking that more of the same is the answer is insane.

Obama has stated a much better foreign policy than McCain and the current idiot in office. Something that will help our economy. He has at least a proposal for a modified health care plan. Something McCain and the current idiot doesn't.

Time for a change? I'd say the shitty mess that 6 years of a Republican president and Congress definitely require a change in direction. It's obvious trickle down shittynomics doesn't work. See Reagan, Bush Sr, Bush Jr. Failures....

Hmmmm. Maybe that's because the war had just begun and Bush declared it a victory?

                        From Bush:

                        Broadcast: 05/04/2003
                        Bush declares Iraq war over
US President George Bush says the war is over and a new era in Iraq can begin. Those comments came as delegates met in southern Iraq to begin reshaping the country's political future. In Baghdad, order is slowly returning the streets.

Sure 70% are going to side with the war efforts when the President declares it's over and we won. Now, five years later and trillions of dollars spent and thousands of lives lost, the tables have turned. Bush lodged his foot firmly in his mouth as usual.

Now 70% against it. Not brain surgery here....

Am I missing something? What defeat are we suppose to admit to? It's the brutally failed Conservative regime that has doomed us. I have no defeat to admit to. Read my posts. Everyone of Rebs arguments were rebuffed. And I'm not name calling. Yet. He called me a moron. If he can't read and understand who says what, that's not my problem. It's obvious you have trouble discerning as well. There's nothing we have to admit to. With Clinton we prospered, and with this Right Wing Congress and that idiot as president we have sunk to new lows.......I think you should think about who needs to admit defeat.
