        Who Devalued the Dollar

The USD is in the tank because of continued massive federal deficits, you do understand that, right? It is CONGRESS not the President who prepares the budget. And, yes, while Dems have always, and will forever be, tax and spend politicians, even the freakin Republican Congress through 2004 overspent this Country, and the USD, into the disaster it is now. Seems like every lib out there thinks the President controls the budget...nothing is appropriated without Congress ratificaton. There's plent to criticize about the Bush Admin if you want to...even using real facts if you'd like. Why make stuff up when it only minimizes your argument?

You just admit that it was the Republican Congress, WITH the HELP of the president that sent the federal deficit, which by the way, Clinton had balanced out from a huge hole he received from Bush Sr.

Why do you continue to blame the Dems for the shitty mess we're in? It was mostly a Conservative Congress and an ultra Conservative president that guided this country for 6 years. Accept that fact. The war and the trillions of dollars spent to be there is also a huge contributing factor to the recession we are currently in.

                Response to Kaz

Yes, Kaz, this moron does understand that it was a Republican Congress that put us back in the budget deficit, and frankly, it sucks just as bad regardless of which party did it. Concerning the war, you're proabably too young to know much about Vietnam, but the war in Iraq has some very close parallels. All the liberals are out shouting from the mountain tops that the war is the worst thing that could have happened. It's Bush's war, etc., etc. The fact is moron, that until mid 2005, the majority of the American people thought that going to war with Iraq was the proper thing to do. See

                http://pewresearch.org/pubs/770/iraq...ar-anniversary

The fact is that a sizable portion of our population don't have the courage of their own convictions. In 2004, the war was the right thing to do (at least according to the majority of Americans). But, then it turned into a real war and it became apparent that we couldn't "shock and awe" it to an end. War sucks! I did two tours in Vietnam, lost countless good friends and just plain good men, and when I came back after the last tour, it was obvious that our citizens just don't have the stomach or the courage to win a war. Vietnam was a tragedy. The tragic thing is that tens of thousands of young men gave it all...and in the end, it was pointless. Look, I have my own problems with many aspects of the way the Bush Administration is waging the war, but damn it, we got in it and we need to finish it.

Regarding the war, I think the thing that pisses me off the most is the liberal revisionist history (same old tired song). "We've opposed it from the start"...Funny how in March of 2003, over 70% of Americans thought it was the right thing to do and supported it....

You made a few great points, here they are.

We, Americans, were mislead, and not by congress.

                    70 percent of americans?

any research into this you couldve found that hussein had no ties to al qaeda but for some reasoning the conservative United States found away to re elect george bush back to office instead of holding him (OUR COMMANDER IN CHIEF WHO TOOK THE CALL AT 3:00 AM) accountable just as they held jimmy carter for the failure in iran. I know a lot of it also had to do with economy but no one looked at george bush for what he is. The one at the helm during 9-11 and we have yet to apprehend the one supposedly responsible for 9-11.

REPUBLICANS BETTER AT DEFENDING OUR COUNTRY..........

                    SURE COULDVE FOOLED ME.

p.s i love the way you throw around the word liberals. Your liberal oops i mean republican president is where most of the blame shouldve landed.

Muscleman, you indicated that Jimma (that's how it's pronounced in the South) lost his bid for re-election because we Americans were holding him accountable for Iran..or at least that's what it appeared to me. I know this is a bit off the topic ofthis thread, but it's interesting that you mention Carter....His economic ideas are very similar in principle to Obama's...i.e., increase taxes on higher incomes, decrease taxes on lower incomes, increase the cap gains rate, etc. Jimma's Administration did all of these things. And, yeah, ultimately he was held accountable in November of 1980.

He was held accountable for this, though, much moreso than about Iran:

When Carter took office on 1977, the prme rate was 6.5% and the average home mortgage rate was 8.845%. The economy grew in 1976 at a rate of 3.79%. The US inflation rate in 1976 was 5.22% annualized. In January 1981, when he left Washington the prime was 21.5% and the average home mortgage could be had for the bargain rate of 13.57%. During 1980, our economy soared ahead by something approaching 3/4s of 1%. Oh, and the rate of US inflation in 1980...13.58%! Do you understand the term stagflation? CHECK THESE NUMBERS OUT...I'M NOT MAKING THEM UP. And I know how bad things sucked...I survived, but barely.

And, yeah, again, the Congress was moreso to blame than the President, even under Carter. But, ultimately, when the economy is already struggling, the last thing needed is to raise taxes on the segment of the population that creates jobs. If you look back over tax policy history, EVERY time the cap gains rate has been increased, the economy slowed during the next three years...EVERY time the cap gain rate has been decreased, the economy's rate of growth incresaed over the subsequent three years.

You don't have to understand anything about the economy to be able to analyze cause and effect. When Obama takes office and implements his economic and tax policies stagflation will be the result. Look, I don't think McCain would be in my top ten as a potential President. The fact is that both choices suck. The difference, though, is that Obama represents a return to the days of Carternomics and THEY JUST DON'T WORK. I guess every new generation has to see disastrous economic policies in force to learn from them. I would challenge you, though, to research the US economy under Carter. Study it for yourself, beacuse Obama's ideas are truly nothing more than a retread of Jimma's.

I told my wife (a stamp your chicken Dem) back this spring that the Dems had better damn well watch out because the Repub's are about to pull an end around of major proportions due to McCain (at that time) being the front runners for the nomination, when just a few weeks earlier he was considering pulling out (no support & no $$$). But the Repubs could see they were going to get smoked in the general election so what do they do? They nominate the most liberal Repub out there and sit back and watch the Dem's beat themselves to death.

NOW, you got BIG DEM's like my buddy jcheckers here saying that they are voting for an Independant!!!!

Isn't this exactly what happened to Bush Sr. with R. Perot???

I sure hope you're right Bill. But, I'm afraid a majority of our voters are just about gullible enough to listen to Obama's rhetoric and not reason through its viability. Hell, who wouldn't vote for someone who's going to give me everything I want or need and have someone else (you know, all those evil successful rich people...sort of like bosses who give folks jobs) pay for it all? Sadly, the promises he has made couldn't be paid for with a 90% marginal income tax rate. But, hey, he's a politician and at the top of his job requirements is getting elected. Sounds great to me..."a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage"...No,wait a minute, that was Hoover's slogan in 1928...Wait, something happened in 1929...Everybody got fat from eatin' all those chickens? No that wasn't it. Oh yeah, THE GREAT FREAKIN DEPRESSION!!

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Hey, that's pretty good. Somebody write that down.
