    What would you suggest?

And don't you think that one person who is in on your conspiracy theory would rat out the plan and become president instantly, or be the hero of the world? I doubt that many people would be so tight-lipped.
What do you think should be done regarding the price of gas/oil?

I agree, and it's funny to hear the oil companies talk about the investment they put into alternative energies. Like anyone is going to believe they are funding their own competition? Now they might invest their profits if/when it becomes profitable, but until then, it'a sll show.

But they don't want to because they contribute millions of dollars to these leaders. Let's get one thing straight. Congress has been Conservative for almost 8 years as well as the president. The biggest contributors to Conservatives are oil companies.......Enough said about that.

You left out the false reports that the oil companies got caught putting out disputing global warming.

I think the higher the price, the more personal consumption will go down. People will find alterntaive means and use mass transit, increase carpooling, etc.
But I think the government should offer tax incentives, as well as cash rewards, as inducements for alternative energies to become more prevelant and affordable.
Wind energy, solar energy, nuclear energy, eleectric cars that are affordable and dependable, are all going to be required to lower our oil dependence.
I believe the Canadian oil in rocks is now going to be an additional source of supply now that it is financially feasible to be able to extract it.
There is not a single idea that will work, but combined use of ideas will have a dramatic impact in my opinion.
Don't count out American ingenuity and the attraction of the almight (and falling!) dollar.

I believe they have been getting oil from Canadas area of Alberta for some time now.

I think it was the history channel or somewhere that I saw that extracting oil from the soil and rock was expensive and didn't produce much and was more in the trial stages. But if oil got to a certain price, then it would be financially viable to do it on a larger scale. Essentailly, it was oil that just poured into the rock and soil, and not into a pool, so extraction is expensive.

Do you have any suggestions? I think the more people talk about it, and the more frustrated people get, the more ideas and solutions will come.

well, I wonder what the biggest issue is to americans right now. OH, IT'S PRICES AT THE PUMPS THat ARE KILLING ALL OF US. THE ECONOMY HAS BEEN GOING DOWN HILL FOR 3-4 YEARS NOW, BUT ALL OF A SUDDEN IT' SA BIG ISSUE BECAUSE PEOPLE ON WALL STREET ARE LOSING MONEY. THE AVERAGE AMERICAN HAS BEEN HIT HARD SINCE BUSH PASSED HIS TAXS CUTS. WE ALL NEED TO WAKE UP AND REALIZE WE'RE ALL ALIKE. THE TOP 1-3% OF THIS COUNTRY HAS BEEN GETIING RICH OFF OF OUR HARD WORK FOR TOO LONG. WHEN CORPORATIONS RULE THE COUNTRY-WHICH IS WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW, WE TURN INTO AN OLIGARCHY, AND EVENTUALLY A FACIST STATE.
