If they were not setting record profits i might be more concerned with the natural resource aspect but that is clearly not the case.
So are you saying there should be a cap put on compensation for employees, and the rest thrown "back in the kitty" to lower the price of gas?
Or do you propose the government getting into the business of oil refinement and distribution?
I am not trying to be an ass, I am just trying to see what your proposal of a solution is. I asked muscleman the same thng twice last evening and he never answered.

It's at the point where maybe they should come up with a better way to distribute it better. The people or companies that use more, maybe should pay more. If it is a natural resource, charge the ones who take more of it and use that money in a fund to look into other places to drill..

nobody can prove that there's not price gouging either. just because it's not reported doesn't mean that its not going on. beardown, made great points earlier, stating that big oil raised prices because of hurricane speculation last year-there wasn't any. Yes, your right this had been going on since carter-actually before, but after carter passed his plan we saw a significant decrease in gas prices the following years. his plan, plus the fact americans started buying smaller compact cars. big oil has enough money to do whatever they want. wake the fuck up.

Understood, so what happens when the company who is using more, pays more, then the products they produce now cost more, or the wages they pay are lowered? And there is a large segment of the governemnt that don't want offshore drilling or Alaskan drilling.

Do you support the gov't taking over the oil industry?
            What would you suggest?

And don't you think that one person who is in on your conspiracy theory would rat out the plan and become president instantly, or be the hero of the world? I doubt that many people would be so tight-lipped.

Yes, we can blame people when they are making billions off us and refuse to control it. If it was a luxury, i wouldn't care cuz it would be our choice. Unfortunately, it isn't for most.
Once again, oil is a depleteable resource. We could make as much electricity as we want by building new plants. We can't just make more oil. Power companies make millions each year. But I guess that's better than billions in your opinion. What do you expect Big Oil to control? Consumption? Tell people worldwide that they can only use so much oil per day? That will work well. Wall St? Force hedge funds to stop driving up the cost of oil futures? They'll laugh in your face...especially after taking a bath in the real estate market recently. Unless we find a reliable alternative we're all screwed.

When it becomes a choice at the store on whether or not you want to pay more for things. Those things will equate to a much bigger luxury than oil is. If it is a natural resource and we have issues with it, than penalize the guy sucking up 200 gallons a week to my 20.

If you want better seats at a game, you pay more, if you want ny strip steak at a store instead of cube steak, you will pay more. If you want to own a Yukon instead of a compact car, you will pay more. If you open a car wash, your water bill will be higher than others too because you are using more. I guarantee the people who use more fuel will find ways or care more about limiting it if it happened.

Like Wayne said....Many things are regulated in this country. Esp all the food we eat. Regulated so we aren't paying $5 for a peach or cereal that's $20 a box. There will be shortages of food someday. Not in the near future. But a lot of farmland is being eaten up. Regulating these oil companies is not unreasonable. But they don't want to because they contribute millions of dollars to these leaders. Let's get one thing straight. Congress has been Conservative for almost 8 years as well as the president. The biggest contributors to Conservatives are oil companies.......Enough said about that.

Right. No one could keep a secret on Capitol Hill especially if leaking it helps their cause.

Who is going to build those plants? You?? Right now i have one choice for an electric company. They can charge whatever they want to and if they decide to triple the price, do you really think i'm going to build my own electicity plant? Your kidding right ...

Isn't the guy using 200 already paying 10x as much to your 20 then?

And your sport comaprisons are interesting. If you bought 2 box seats, you would be paying 1/2 of what someone is paying for 4 right?

Right....there is only one gas and electric company in their perspective areas....They can gauge as they want. But they don't because they are regulated by the gov't. And they aren't lining the pockets of Congressmen.

I agree with you 100% kaz and i've never said that. They levied STIFF fines to people up here who jacked up the prices on generators when everyone lost power and i'm sure others make generators. They called that price gauging but raising the fucken price every god damn week on oil is not right? Give me a break ...

If they triple the price, do you think someone then might build a plant and only double the price and make a huge amount of cash? Like it or not, that's capitalism in a nutshell.

Yes, but unlike the other things you guys want to bring up, it is a natural resource THAT IS LIMITED. If you want to carelessly not give a fuck and suck it all up, than pay for it. I'm not the one abusing it, they are.
