thank goodness your predictable.
blown saves / save opprotunities percentage:
1) papplebon 6%
2) Dempster 11%
3) wagner 12%
3) hoffman 12%
5) k rod 13%
5) borowski 13%
7) valverde 14%
8) cordero 17%
and correct me if i'm wrong but papplebon, k rod, and wagner have also missed some time as well this year.
So again....Dempster based on FACTS...is in fact not weak.
A bad game here and there....it happens.

Originally posted by THENDYWith the exception of BOROSKI the CUBS would trade fo anyone of those guys for DEMPSTER.....because hes a weak CLOSER. Look at his career stats. Hes allows too many baserunners when the game is on the line. The save he got before belowing this one he LOADED the bases and got of the hook. I see him pitch alot and he is a WEAK closer...His 55 innings is a pretty small sample size. Look at his career. The cubs were considering using him as a starter earier in the year. You dont do that if hes not a WEAK closer, His WHIP since he became the cubs closer is 1.40 to 1.50 same as his career. THATS WEAK for a closer because it is not DOMINANT.Hes weak because hes noI. iM SURE BRUCE SUTTER AND LEE SMITH had WHIPS in the 1.2 area over there entire careers. And even lower when they were in there dominant phases as closers. This thread was started by me saying DEMPSTER is a weak closer........and u can spout any stat u want but he is a WEAK CLOSER ..lol geeez
75% of his career starts are from him as a starter.
Why don't you use his stats as a CLOSER for his career instead.
I'll spout stats to make your blanket statements incorrect. I can do it all day long if you'd like.
You claim he is a weak closer..that is your OPINION...and we know about opinions. I choose to counter them with FACTS. FACTS that can't lie, can't have a bias or an opinion. That's why they call them FACTS.
The FACTS tell us that Dempster based on numerous categories that I've enlightened you on that he is indeed NOT weak, but one of the most productive and successful closers compared to others that are in the similar position of being in first or in the wild card lead.
If you cannot differenciate between facts and opinions, then I can't help ya.
55 innings for a CLOSER is not a small sample size. Closers don't go but 1 inning per appearance for the most part. How can you claim that it's small? That's ridiculous.
Why did the Cubs give thought to using him as a closer? Well if you read the FACTS...you would know it wasn't because of his work as a closer, but it was in fact because the Cubs were looking for a 5th starter. If he was a weak closer and couldn't get out of one inning, why in the hell would they want him to try and pitch 5-6 innings? Makes zero sense.
He got hurt, Howry and Marmol closed games and did quite well. If he was such a weak closer...why give him the spot back? Why not then give him that 5th spot in the roatation and move Marshall down to long relief???
You made a blanket statement after a knee jerk reaction. But then you ran into facts that make your blanket statment incorrect. I know it's tough to swallow, but you'll figure it out sooner than later.
Don't confuse your opinions with facts....it'll bite you in the ass every time.
